The series is not an ounce scarier than RE4 or 5, it's just a lot louder and a lot gorier, which just makes for a more annoying, juvenile experience. The fact that it tries SO HARD to be scary just ultimately makes it disengaging. And in Dead Space, Isaac is just as empowered as Leon, Chris, or Sheva, and he uses even more over the top weaponry. Isaac definitely "feels" more fragile since there are a lot of sequences that put him on the ground and try to help emphasize his mortality and vulnerability (and any finishing blow will result in him falling on the floor in at least three separate pieces, which just looks goofy), which is good, but is ultimately just window dressing on a game that is fundamentally the same as RE4 and 5: a third person shooter with horror elements.
Different strokes for different folks haha. I thought Dead Space nailed the horror atmosphere much better and at least made an attempt, while neither RE4 or RE5 got close to achieving any semblance of horror (aside from very, very isolated segments).

    • I have to agree with Merchant here.

I got ZERO scares from Dead Space, Hell i even got the platinum for the game.

      • And I still say that RE4 is as much a horror game as any of the games in the series that directly preceded it. If I were being honest, however, I'd say that only Remake or RE retain any real sense of horror on subsequent playthroughs. The other games, RE4 included, kind of fizzle out with more play (RE0, RE3, RE4) or become laughable as time goes on (RE1, CV). It's really only RE5 that never had anything close to horror - even the Licker segements are more frustrating than scary.

My opinion on the scare level of Dead Space has always been much like The Merchant's ; the horror is window dressing (mutilated bodies and gore) on an otherwise action-packed thriller.

Let's put it in very simple terms.

Whether you understand it or not is irrelevant - but Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 ARE horror. That's irrefutable.

Whether they're scary though is another subject.

Achivement list, beware some achievement names containt slight spoilers to overall plot. Though is the same thing that happens in all RE games one way or another.

Maybe of note they refer in descriptions as "the USS campaign". Suggests possibility of another campaign, Spec Ops maybe.

This is great news. I honestly like the Spec Ops a lot more so hopefully we'll get to play as them in a campaign mode.

I'm sure there's a Spec Ops campaign, and I'm sure it's being intentionally withheld from the retail version to include later as DLC. That's just how these companies operate now. Why else wouldn't there be achievements for a Spec Ops campaign? And even if there is a Spec Ops campaign, I'll bet it's just the same maps recycled.

                        Spoiler:
                        Mass production? Ridiculous!

                        • Just watched the multiplayer trailer...

Someone tell me the Raccoon Hospital features is the back entrance.... Why the fuck would they change the geography established in the main titles? It's shit like this which irks me when it's so fucking easy to do. They even had that geography created for Outbreak for crying out loud.

                          • They can't even get the right time period for the cars and guns. You think they'll bother trying to get the geography right? Frankly, at this point you're lucky it's still called Raccoon City and not Beaver Town.
