Yep, that's what I was saying. This feels much more like L4D or some other cheap game with so much emphasis on combat and not enough on detail.

    Mass production? Ridiculous!

    • I've always been an advocate of this game as a 'just for fun' title, but that boss fight looked horrendous.

Well, that mission looked less boring than not-Birkin's lab from the first mission, but it still seemed rather short and linear assuming the Nemesis battle is right after where the video ended. If only seven missions of that length are what will ship with the retail version, it's quite safe to say that it's not worth $60.

I see that Slant Six tried to make their own versions of some areas in RE3 (what looked like the dead factory at the beginning, the warehouse, the cemetery), but the city just doesn't feel like Raccoon to me. And it's not like I see the only true Raccoon City as RE2 and RE3, since Outbreak's Raccoon had the perfect feel to it.

Also, what was that facility they were in supposed to be? It looked just like not-Birkin's lab from the first mission. And those parasite enemies just seem like a cheap way to introduce plaga-like enemies into a game where they don't belong. What, are they assuming they won't attract fans of RE4 and RE5 without plaga-looking stuff?

Is it sad that I still want to get this game even though I think it looks worse and worse the more I see? It's almost as if I have a shred of hope that it'll be decent even though I know it probably won't.

I was going to buy it, but after the wealth of info that has flooded in over the last few days (most of it negative), there is no way I'm dropping $60 on this and lord knows how much more for the massive DLC that should be included free of charge.

                  • I figure that might be the case with most of you. There's no shame in waiting for a used version to a game you're not completely sold on. I had to do so with Mercs 3D. The problem for me comes if most of my RE friends are unable to get the game. That means I have to play the game with strangers or play a co-op designed game in single play which to me is a pretty bad set up and one of the reasons I prefer single play>co-op. Because no matter what any fault will always go to the AI partners on their end instead of actual players.

If the co-op game is bad, I'd like to at least experience the misery with someone else along the way.

But for a game that was never marketed as being like the other RE titles I find some of the comments with a hint of "what are you expecting?" thrown in.

I can already tell you the problem with these "boss fights" people are getting worked up over. It's not really the canon timeline or even how the setting of where you fight them in is designed. Most of you have RE2 and RE3 boss fights to compare with this game so the stakes will be up no matter what. These monsters scared the bageezus out of some of you and it took a certain skill to evade and put them down after multiple attempts. Here, the over-the-shoulder action has to make this game play like RE5 but the action is also more amped up. And given the story relating to 2 and 3 we know you are restricted into how you can actually fight the monsters.

                      • I just keep in mind how (and who) reviews the movies and previous sequels on their site. Although frankly if RE5 is looked at highly and their impressions of the four missions of ORC aren't as good then what does that say for ORC? Likely that slant six may not live up to Capcom even in terms of an action game. Still, previews and reviews are very different. We'll wait and see whether the final build ends up shooting pearls or making fans groan even more.

And I should mention that despite me picking this game up at launch I'm not really interested in "gaming journalism". I trust friend and fan opinions over the "professionals" any day.

                        • I think this game would piss off lot less people, if it didn’t mess with the characters from RE2 and 3. They could have easily made the same game with a scenario where you have to take down previously unknown survivors, (It’s not like Capcom has any trouble with creating new, uninteresting characters) and take place in different parts of the city. Old fans won’t appreciate messing with the canon once again, and new ones won’t really care if they are hunting down Leon somewhere near RPD, or some new guy in another place. Just my opinion on this. :|

                          • That's just it though. It's because you're in Raccoon City and going through these familiar events that the game already grabs a fan's attention. Let's ignore that it's on a wide console release and let's ignore the die hard RE collectors that pick it up for having the RE name attached. Whether a fan likes it or hates it, they can't shake off a game that pits you so close to the events of the series. And newcomers to the RE series who like action games will be drawn to the type of game play they are comfortable with.

Why waste time making a spin off with these dull uninteresting characters that you bring up which would account for little more than filler? You say fans would complain less, but the truth is the game probably wouldn't grab as much attention as main games like Revelations and RE6 would. Now reverse it. Place these new characters up against main events and have them clash with familiar characters like Leon and Nicholai. Or classic monsters like Birkin and Nemesis. Well now the game has your attention. You can be mad at the flaws, but the game still has your attention to go through and see what happens regardless because it'll affect the main series in some way. This is something the Chronicles games learned to a degree although personally I think a third person shooter leaves more to be excited for in a game over a rail shooter. But that will depend on if the TPS game play is good or not for this game.
