You know what, bro? I AGREE. And I think that the F word should be used around here more often.

          • Never liked Socom after part 2.

Ok, I did not read the whole thread, but why would the Umbrella operatives want to kill Leon? Are they from the future? Did they travel back in time to undo Umbrella's downfall?

Also, wasn't the team that went in to Raccoon to contain the the situation a different outfit? UBCS?

This looks like any other shooter, but tag the Biohazard name and we will flock to it.

What a cash in and clusterf*ck! The only way to accept this is to view from an alternate timeline/dimension/whatever.

I'm pretty sure they aren't exclusively targeting Leon directly - it's probably just been mis-representedly hyped that way. In the latest trailer, their order seems to be "kill all RPD police officers". They are flying around in their chopper and happen to spot Leon openly wearing his RPD uniform, hence they have a "target acquired". But since this game is pretty much non-canon anyway (most likely), whatever bs excuse there might be if Leon is a named target prior to entering the city is moot if that is the case. I wouldn't think too hard on it.

              • I still think the biggest plothole in the trailer is why he even entered town when he can see that it's burning from a mile away.

Well, at the end of the trailer, when the soldier kills Leon, he says "We've got him. It ends here. Command, we've eliminated the target." This implies that they were targeting Leon directly, even though that eliminating the other RPD officers was also part of their mission. Also, bearing in mind, that it has been said several times that "Killing Leon" was a main objective.

It just sounds like cheap fan-service with no logical explanation as to why they are hunting Leon, other that what Darklighterx said, is that they came from the future because Leon helped take down Umbrella.

But a rookie cop, first day on the job, being targeted so specifically? What separates Leon from the rest of the RPD officers? It's so lame, and I doubt they'll explain it. Even though it is a non-cannon game, it's still a major plothole, right in front of Capcom's faces. Someone really should bring this question up in an interview.

                  • Maybe their main target it's not Leon at first, because Leon is nobody at the start of RE2, but at some point in the game he knows to0 much about Umbrella and the Raccoon incident. So maybe from the story point of view they are there to eliminate stuff that can link Umbrella to the incident but at some point the realize that Leon (where is Claire?) it's a major risk for Umbrella.

Another possibility is that they arrive to Raccoon City later, not a the beginning of RE2.

Because he's a Police officer? Because it's his first day on the job and he wants to make an good impression by thrusting himself into danger?

Actually, it's clearly because he's the baddest/coolest man on the planet, as if they didn't feed us the message enough in RE4/Degeneration.

                      • Poor early planning maybe? There's no real indication in RE2 retail that any part of the city is on fire. In fact, although it's obviously forced for gameplay purpose, the opening shows RC streets pretty wide and open and mostly clutter/barricade free. Yet in RE2/3 and Outbreak, it really implies the streets should have been much less navigable via car and semi-truck than the RE2 opening implied. They didn't plan for it to be too obvious of an issue before-hand because they needed to railroad Leon and Claire into the city and pretty much right outside of the RPD.

Or well there's just the idea that yeah, Leon noticed and wanted to help per his duty and of course met other troubles on the way. And Claire could have noticed and still thought "shit, the city is on fire and things look bad, I really gotta find Chris!".

                        • I work on the assumption they both just went, 'Well that's odd, I didn't know there was a really, really big bonfire this month. I wonder what that tasty smell is...?'

                            • Speaking of the whole Leon/Claire arriving in Raccoon City--I don't think any sort of explanation will fix that BIG plothole in the story--ever.

But for one reason or another. . .it's pretty easy to ignore.

Probably because there is no plothole.
