That is like saying 'Why buy Skyrim when you can make your own pen and paper RPG!'.
Well, all I can say is that I'm sure I heard something in that video about it being an alpha build, one can only hope I wasn't just hearing things...

The way I've always understood it is that this game is a typical "kill soldiers" TPS that is masquerading as a Resident Evil game by throwing BOWs in the middle of it. The primary objective always seems to have been to kill the Spec Ops soldiers; I'd be surprised if there aren't enemy soldiers in every mission. Aside from bosses, I'm assuming that it will not be necessary to kill any BOWs, although I imagine that most players will prefer hunting BOWs than enemy soldiers. This is supposed to be RE, after all; if people want to just kill humans they can play all the generic war-themed FPSs out there.

It sure has. Even Revelations looks like a blockbuster movie now, just like RE5. Gone are the days of slower-paced, more atmospheric survival horror.
      Mass production? Ridiculous!

      • Resident Evil technically lost its niche when the first Silent Hill was released, if you think about it.

        • You're essentially playing as Umbrella in this game so fighting your own BOWs doesn't really sound like it'll get the game anywhere.

Now if you're hunting after Spec Ops and the R.P.D. this is where things can get interesting. Resident Evil has tried to vary in the game department. You have classic Resident Evil, the over-the-shoulder market spawned from RE4, the Gun survivor series and Chronicle rail shooters.

This one will be more action oriented so I'm not expecting any scares or thrills out of it. The AI does look like it needs tweaking, but perhaps the game will have harder difficulties or a progression of being more challenging.

If you want to get even more technical, you could even say Deep Fear.

That is understandable, but if I was a competent games developer, I'd rather have my AI still look impressive on lower difficulties and just have them deal much lesser damage whilst only slightly having them attack less frequently, etc.

I can understand that this is Umbrella and it makes little sense for their operatives to arbitrarily exterminate their own B.O.W's which they're collecting battle data on, but I was always under the impression that most people were simply (un)dead by the time of the events of RE2&3. This game will only be "what if" scenarios anyway so it's probably best just to take it all with a grain of salt.

I really hope the gameplay is good, I'm not criticising this game for the hell of it just because I mostly hate anything Resi Evil these days, I really do want it to be fun. As it currently looks though, in one word; tacky.

It would be great if they didn't show us any gameplay at all in the first place until they had something respectable to show, like how Sega was with ALIENS: Colonial Marines for years. Now we finally have some footage of Colonial Marines, it looks decent even if it does seem to be only set pieces of gameplay, but as nearly always, I'm not holding my breath 'till I finally play the game in question for myself.

            • The interesting question is whether the highest difficulty will challenge the player to reserve their ammo and heavily be aware of their surroundings, or die by a few hits from just the common undead alone, and need to rely on your team mates. Now that would definitely be a survival horror experience in a fair context. They just need to get the music, atmosphere, and feel right, and they can make this third person tactical shooter a very interesting blend.

You're talking about the cutscenes from Revelations.

The actual gameplay is a lot slower than RE5's. The fact that they added that environment scanner (the one that the characters employ to look for hidden items) will make sure that you do more of the typical RE corridor skulking.

About ORC... I said it before but having to deal with a formidable human threat that supersedes any other threat (including the outbreak and most B.O.W.s), is what brings this one down a notch or two for me. The main threat has to be the outbreak and the BOWs.

In the original games, most well trained agents, policemen and what have ya, had a very tough time dealing with all that. I hope ORC has some of that too...

I agree, unless an enemy (a single one) busts in on your exploration and your miniscule amount of bullets along with the cramped space forces you to run away from the thing. I should know, I played the damn game.

                  • I just saw the new video from the PSN store.

                    The NEMESIS!

                    Is this old news?
I was like, holy shit it's the Nemesis! They are throwing everyone into this game...

I figured he was going to be in the reveal, then I saw the point man or whatever the hell is name is. I'd prefer Mikhail over him!

You are right, me and a friend both though something was off about Carlos.
