  • Well, I didn't see psychic powers or people with swords and throwing stars invading bases full of armed soldiers armed with guns.

    • You did see stealth camouflage and pheromone grenades...not quite as awful as Anderson, but still veering into the 'What?' side of things. I also understand many of the weapons, cars in the street, etc are from the Noughties rather than 1996.

Don't jinx the psychic powers. And invading bases full of armed soldiers is still there. It's the entire set-up of the game.

But they aren't doing it with fucking swords. Sure, Bertha uses a machete but only because she was fighting a wounded and defenseless cop and quickly changed for her gun when shit went down. I'm not saying the game doesn't have over the top action, only it's not in the level of Anderson's stuff.

          • I dunno - we'll have to agree to disagree, I'm not saying the girl shouldn't of attempted to fight the licker - but the manner was just for show as opposed to a more grounded, and military way - They don't teach knife somersaults in training I'm sure. But hey, it looks cool I guess.

What I liked about the series was when it turned that one its head. My first time watching Leon running until to Mendez in Resident Evil 4 and attempt a spin kick - only to have it grabbed my Mendez and Leon thrown into a cupboard made me chuckle, but it wasn't what you expected.

That's all though - outside of that singular moment, I enjoyed a couple of things in the trailer, mainly the Tyrant, because I think they really emphasised just how dangerous they are.

Chris and Sheva do this in RE5, remember.

              • Gameplay =/= cinematics(story). Also the BETA licker in RE5 have exposed heart. Lickers in Raccoon City don't.

I actually haven't played RE5 yet because I don't have a PS3/Xbox 360 and just recently got a PC that could run it. Anyway, I don't think Chris and Sheva pick the Licker's tongue in mid air and chop it off. Besides, Chris in RE5 has years of experience dealing with B.O.W.s and Sheva had training and I suppose fought some before RE5, while the US SpecOps team is seeing them for the first time.

                  • I suppose it's possible they've seen more - they aren't exactly shocked by it or the zombies. They are a bit too flippant about the whole thing, though.

This is done differently though. They only cut the tongue when it's piercing/strangling the other player, and it can only be stabbed when it's exposed and vulnerable on the floor. It's seems more tactile and feels more brutal than the slick and stylish presentation of the Licker confrontation in the trailer.

                      Still, amazing trailer regardless.

The bit about them being too chummy with the B.O.W. does diminish their impact, though. Exactly how long had they have been facing all those B.O.W. to the point where grabbing a Licker's tongue was a part of their Ninja style counter-attack repertoire?

Maybe they had access to Wesker's combat data he had "supposedly" collected during the Mansion incident. Or perhaps the Red Queen gave them access to it? Then afterwards... 1 1/2 months of training followed?

                        • Then again, the action in Resident Evil has been increasing with each installment. Affecting the main series characters into performing their own laser dodging and over-the-top melee attacks. The influence of the movies has been there for some time. All they lack is Alice.

We've known this was going to relish in the action since the very beginning. I was not surprised by the action of the latest trailer.

But I do wonder now about the scope of this game. Will the Spec Ops have their own campaign? Can we choose to play as them over the U.S.S.? And if any of those are the case then will they be the characters you play as to maintain the series canon?

                          • Well in the series canon US Spec Ops in Raccoon City were assholes too so...

                            • I think the confrontation scene between them was kinda hilarious. I'm in a outbreak and I run into a bunch of mask wearing guys holding a cop at gunpoint. Naturally I'd be like "WTF". Especially with how much we know about the Wolf Pack right now. I'd think Spec Ops would be in way over their heads and yet they manage to put up a fight.

                              • oh my god would you people please, please, PLEASE shut the fuck up already. my god. yes, i signed up just to say that. i'm sick and tired of coming here for new information about a game that i care about just to see the same people bitching and complaining about trivial crap. if you don't like this series anymore then go away.

that said, why do you people care about realism in a RE game anyway? RE was never about realism. you guys do remember this is a video game right? and video games are meant to be enjoyed, right? i swear some of you complain about the silliest shit.

                                yes, i mad
