  • It's like Capcom wants me to NOT play Mercs 3D

Those that know me are aware that as of right now I have no interest in buying a 3DS. I'm saving my money for better investments, and believe based on previous purchases that in a few years time Nintendo will release a better version of the 3DS. One that will hopefully have a longer battery life among other trivial yet convenient features.

Regardless my optimism for Capcom's 3DS RE titles is at a low. They just haven't kept me excited enough to want one at launch. Revelations has very little revealed so far. My only hope is that Capcom doesn't jerk the fans around like they did with RE5 by hyping up the horror aspect. This is the only new release that is being given the "horror" treatment so I'm hoping they get their act together this time around.

In regards to mercs 3D I'm at a loss for words. What's the point? In RE3-RE5 the mercenaries has always been a mini game with a selection of characters to keep the replay value fun. Now that there's a whole game devoted to this concept I was expecting more out of it. But what do I come to find? Confirmed two modes and eight characters? Based on wondercon footage it looks like seven characters are already confirmed. I thought this game was said to have all the ones from the previous mercs (at least RE4 and RE5). Claire is the only new addition they've made. So the list is as follows:

    Chris
    Claire
    Jill
    Wesker
    HUNK
    Krauser
    Rebecca

Leaving one empty space left over. Sorry, but what's the deal? Are we to believe that they are intentionally leaving characters out to pull a "mercenaries reunion" and add them in as DLC? Let's assume Barry is the final confirmed character. How can you have Krauser but not Leon or Ada? Since RE3 was the start of The Mercenaries you would hope to have Carlos at least added in. What about Sheva?

In any case the character roster does not make me want to buy it. I hope the worst case scenario is that there's more than eight characters and the rest are ones you unlock. The game at wondercon suggest two empty unlock slots for six default characters so I can't say. What I do know is that if it's a matter of DLC then Capcom has already made my bad side on this game.

Furthermore I want to believe that the enemies will be tweaked to fit the new additions to the game play. When you couldn't move and shoot you were restricted on staying still leaving you a sense of vulnerability as you reloaded or aimed. Now that you can I'm hearing that the enemies are still the same. So you have an advantage in game play which makes this unbalanced then? Cause they'll run at you, slow down to stumble your way and in the meantime you can avoid easily by moving and reloading.

I'm not against moving and shooting, but the enemies need to be tweaked to work with it. So that's another problem to worry about if true.

All in all I just feel it's worthless. RE4 mods have managed to add in more characters to mercs than any in this game, and even redesigned the settings, modes, enemies, etc. What Capcom is unveiling is more of the same and what new additions they bring in raise a lot of questions.

I hope no one comes in telling me to expect this because it's a hand held game. If that was the case then an all mercs game might has well have been suited on a console.

Put it this way, Capcom are no longer the company we once knew. These days they're less about making pure quality product and more about teasing their fans and milking old formulas for profit. This doesn't surprise me at all, nor does your reaction to the game, this is the reaction I pretty much expect from most Capcom fans regarding anything to do with one of their popular franchises, and it's probably the reaction they expect too. Personally I don't respect Capcom anymore, I like the games they made and I like some of the games they're currently making, but I don't like them as a company. The days of me worshiping them as one of the kings of the gaming world a pretty much over, regardless of how much money they put into a project or how good a game they make is.

According to a interview for Nintendo Power, when asked about DLC, the producer said it's possible but they have to consult Nintendo first. So, the way I see it, Capcom is checking if there'll be DLC for 3DS games, if so they'll release DLC characters, maps and such, if not then they'll put this DLC content in the game just like normal or unlockable stuff.

Well Capcom has been known for pre-planning for DLC, re-releases and ports. All the random character roster tells me is that we might be delving into Crapcom's grand DLC scheme marketing....or they can genuinely be unlockables. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Capcom turned over a new leaf. Maybe all the mercs characters from RE4 and 5 are in and this is all one big misunderstanding. Leon, Ada, Josh, Excella....even that adorable Sheva. Maybe, just maybe....Capcom will have Carlos, Nicholai and Mikhail. Why stop there? Steve and Billy have been playable characters also. Might as well throw in Nemesis with his big ass rocket launcher to complete the experience.....oh how a man can dream...

Lol, they did turn over a new leaf, and it's called doing the complete opposite of what we want them to...

I can't agree with you more.My days of worshiping Capcom are long gone Rockstar Games Took its place for me.

But yeah.Merc's 3D isnt worth it.Your basically playing RE5's Merc's on a handheld system.for that they should have just ported RE5 to the 3ds.I give it a big PASS.

I still say these new levels the inclusion of Claire,Krauser and HUNK etc should just have been DLC for RE5. I didn't have much intention of buying a 3DS and Mercs 3D did nothing to sway me, filed under: Meh.

Capcom wants your money Smiley, not your preference. Pay them....just like... the rest of us...pay them...mediocre sequels are ...worth it...If it says Resident Evil...It must be purchased...and Capcom has never made a lazy sequel in their history of development..Copy and pasting one game onto a sequel is the future...

Out of all the game companies, I'd have to say that Capcom has the most potential to do amazing things. Their problem... They ALWAYS waste it. ALWAYS.

There is so much good stuff they could do and they don't, and then when they actually do something good, it winds up being scrapped or not in the final product.

As for Mercenaries 3D, if they can't include all of the characters that have AT LEAST been in the Mercenaries of RE4/RE5, then that's pretty sad.

But as far as replayability goes, I think it is too early to say. They said that there would be a lot of different stages. I still think there is a ton more that that aren't showing us, and that they probably should if they want to really sell their game.

The only thing that's bugging me is that they won't show anything new from Revelations, and yet we got more news and info from all the other games.

Yeah, its the future alright. It's their future of going out of business if they keep going down this spiral road.I used to be one of the so called "sheep", that would buy anything Resident Evil. Not anymore.to be honost.I actually auctioned off most of my RE merchandise.Im very cautious with what RE Title I buy now."Thank You Youtube, always comes in handy".Like im excited about Operation:Raccoon City and Revelations. But Im being cautious.Because, you can't really trust Capcom anymore.Remember that so called"Fear You Can't Forget"Campaign for RE5?That was Pathetic.

How can anyone possibly believe a game isn't worth it, having not even played it yet? You don't even know the game's full features yet.

And you're (incorrectly) complaining of Capcom porting something to the 3DS, but suggesting it could be rememedied by porting something to the 3DS? REALLY?

honostly I don't want to know about Merc's 3D's features because I really dont care about it,because I have no intentions in buying it anyway. To me its not worth the 30 some odd dollar price tag.I'll just stick to RE5's Merc's thank you very much.

Should've just said you'd prefer to be naive then rather than wade in with such nonsense.

Sorry but i'm not buying it. No chance whatsoever that Capcom would've launched themselves in a title on a system that can handle DLC without having already decided their DLC strategy already.

Shit will have systematically been planned before they'd even started actual development on the title.

But it's Capcom. Which means we'll get the "We listened to our fans..." line, a la RE5 DLC.

its my opinion.and Im sticking to it.I just don't see my hard earned money invested in buying a stand alone Mini game.I just don't see the logic in that.

Now if it was an unlockable in Revelations like all the past Merc's were than I would see why it would be 40 dollars because it gives replay value.but im also doubting Revelations to be anything but another shoot em up like RE5."Fear You Can't Forget"What a crock.

To be honost.I think making Merc's its own game is one of the most dumbest stratagies I have ever seen a company make. This goes to show you that they are running out of Ideas.Where's Mikami when you need him.Oh thats right,he's in a company where he has creative control on what games he makes.Capcom really screwed themselves.

I think people who keep blabbing about Capcom no longer dedicating themselves to "pure" titles and money grubbing need to give this video a view.
