  • Original Trevor's Letters Translated

A 15th Anniversary present from Project Umbrella. The original Trevor's Letters finally translated after... 15 long years! Originally included in the 15 minute BIO HAZARD demo released on January 15, 1996, they were removed just before the release of the game (probably in the decision to also remove the individual item box and ink ribbon shortage) and are different from the ones contained in the 'True Story Behind BIO HAZARD' book (found here) which were rewritten with hilarious and cringe-worthy contradictions of the original game's plot (which 'BIO HAZARD: The Beginning' also does).

Many thanks to MarkGrass for extracting them and to BioTech and Welsh for the translations. Enjoy!

Addendum: Most interestingly, the letters reveal that the training facility which serves as the main stage for biohazard 0 was in fact conceived before the release of the first game.

Fantastic, finally a quality translation of this!
Thanks a lot for making this possible!

Your updates are always an interesting and worthwhile read!

These letters are much closer to the game canon than the rewritten versions we got to see later...
I was always wondering how exactly Trevor's story was constructed in the original Biohazard. (Not the GC Remake or "True Story behind Biohazard")

And it's true, they do give away too much of a clue to many puzzles in the game.
But I still think they should have been included, perhaps just near the end of the game, when most puzzles are already done...

Somehow I can't help but feel like a lot of Biohazard's storyline is only available if you are able to read Japanese and have access to external documents and sources. So much of the story is never made clear in the games and only detailed in guide books etc.

I hate being unable to follow the story just because it is handled so carelessly by Capcom due to how they are not supporting the western market with much of the guidebooks and other info sources. Without Project Umbrella most of the story would be unknown to the English speaking world, I guess...

To see the Training Facility mentioned in a document from pre-final Biohazard 1 development is also quite an unexpected discovery to me.
I always assumed that the idea of the Facility was thought up when Biohazard Zero was being planned. I never expected it to be a lost detail that was already established during BH1's time...

    Edit:
Did it really say "Son of a bitch!" (or some curse of the same level in Japanese) or was that a free translation? (In TREVOR'S NOTE No. 8)
It seems a bit "hard", even for a game like Biohazard...

Thanks for the kind reply. -)

And yes the Japanese word "畜生" can have the meaning of "SOB","Bastard","***hole" or other curse words. And I guess Welsh chose the "SOB" because he wanted to express how mad Trevor was at that time, though it's a little "too hard" for some of you guys to read.

Well, I guess it is a fitting translation in the letter's context.

It's easy to imagine how enraged Trevor must've been when he figured Spencer's game...
I doubt any average person would stay calm in such a situation.

Spencer sure was a cold blooded bastard, he wasn't all that different from Wesker in this regard...

By the way, Upaluppa. Would you care to spend a few days at my forest retreat?
          See you in hell.

Definitely agreed upon. I gotta admit, I jump to News Bot's topics, before anyone else's.

@Project Umbrella Staff - Thank You!

I ripped those images... 5, maybe, 6 years ago? And quite honestly, I thought thought the TSBB book was accurate/original.

Again, News Bot, BioTech and Welsh (whom i'm assuming previously went by the alias of 'Colvin' ;)), many thanks, guys!

Oh Mr. Spencer! It sure would be a pleasure I couldn't deny!
You wouldn't mind me taking my enormous rocket launcher with me, would you?

You know I never intended to offend the great Ozwell E. Spencer!
Being a sinister, evil genius with intends to take over the world is the most awesome thing ever, if you ask me!

And thank YOU for extracting those for us.

It was two months before the game was released but still...

Would be interesting to see if the file is still included and if it's any different to the Trial Edition version.
Unfortunately I lack the know-how which is necessary in order to extract the text files out of the game...

However, I should be able to hack a "Have All Files" code to see if Trevor's Letters are still included!
The 31/01 build is newer compared to the Trial (SLPM-80027) I think it's 15/01, some files are 11/01 and other from 1995

Not really quality, but an understandable translation . I certainly couldn't do better myself as I don't speak Japanese, but the current English translation can definitely be more polished.

Nonetheless, my thanks to you for this!

Don't do it, Upaluppa! Take my maps instead which will show you the structure of the mansion.

Well, at least it's not in Engrish like the Google translations I've seen before!
After all the hard work these guys did to get it done you can forgive that it might not have "Capcom quality", right?
(Which was actually much worse than this in the old days, just remember RE1's voice acting)

Hey, will I get a bonus if I order three of your maps?
I've got a backstabbing Barry and a scared Rebecca to guide through this mansion, after all...

                      Edit:
Forgive the off-topic jokes, I just couldn't resist!
Let's get back to actually discussing Trevor's lost letters, ok?

Just a researcher. Spencer kills him for talking to Trevor by using him to test the ceiling trap.

                              It's not too "hard".

In REmake, in the lab near the ending, Chris outright calls Wesker "you son of a BITCH!".
