  • Has anyone seen this yet? A "Fixed" Bio2 Beta has been uploaded!

This thing here just got my attention:
    Part 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WJ8PCTYR
    Part 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6RG4GSOT
    Part 3: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BM7WZBY8
    Part 4: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BSZ1NN8W

Since linking directly to the website this came from is most likely not allowed here I'll quote:
    Originally posted by Gadesx;

This is Biohazard 2 Beta 2 supposly "hacked" for can go to
more areas not accesible in the normal beta2.

    no pass
Some help with identifying what exactly this release is would be appreciated!
If it's a fake, corrupt dump or nothing new at all feel free to delete this thread!

I assume it to be the "fixed" BH2 Beta that appeared on UG some time ago.
But since I have no access to UG I never managed to obtain their copy, so I can't compare if this one is the same image or something new.

I doubt it's anything exciting but there's nothing wrong with examining it just to be sure, right?

    Edit:
Apparently the download link for Part 4 is not working (yet?).
I always get an error message from Megaupload claiming that the file I am trying to access is currently not available and that I should try again later.

I'll try again in an hour or so, we'll see if it's working then!
If someone else thinks he has more luck feel free to try!

Betas are fine. As for what exactly is up with it? No idea. I do know there are two versions of Beta 2, one that wasn't ripped right and one that was.

The download link for part 4 is working now!

        Edit:
I just loaded it up in my emulator and it is no different from the usual BH2 Beta as far as I can tell. (new rooms != true)
Well, at least it is not the corrupted White Umbrella dump! The clocktower backgrounds are fine in this image:

Here's a quick look at the contents of the disc with CD Mage:

But I am not the right person for CD image examination, perhaps somebody else can play spot the difference on this file?

So what exactly was broken from the first dump? I tried a lot of warp points and never ran into problems... What is UG?

          Part 1 is temporarally unavailable...

I had the same problem with part 4. Just try again in a minute or so and it should work!

UG is underground-gamer, a website which offers torrent downloads of pretty much anything a (retro) gamer's mind can think of.
(Will mentioning this get me a ban? I sure hope it does not!)

Err, just refer to this thread for more info on their fixed BH2 Beta:

(edit: guess not) How many MB is this dump here? One thing from what I can tell is that the dump I currently have isn't the same as any other dump that's been mentioned. Oddly, for some reason, windows reports two different file sizes, again not the same size as what's been reported.

How do I test to see if it's corrupt? Would be interesting to see how this dump compares to the others. My guess is that the one I currently have is even more corrupted than the others, but you never know, might be the original. Probably not lol...

I'd love to get this so called original dump which is said to be 780 mb in size according to the thread I have linked to but I have no clue where to find it.
I always assumed that the bioflames version is the original dump (coming directly from one of those Hong Kong Pirate discs) but it is not 780 mb in size on my filesystem.

This "fixed" build is exactly the same in size as the bioflames one tough, I just noticed.

I am really confused over how many versions of this beta are floating around the net, which one of them is the "best" one and why.
The only versions I have seen with my own eyes so far are the bioflames version which has a few corrupt sectors according to CD Mage but displays all the backgrounds just fine and the White Umbrella version which is a bit smaller than the bioflames dump, has different (and more) corrupt sectors than the bioflames version (again, according to CD Mage) and has messed up backgrounds in the clocktower.

Actually, by the looks of things the one I have here is the same file size as this apparent fixed version. Funny though how mine is in ISO format and this one is in BIN format, also this new one was modified in 2010 while my other one was modified in 2004... :/ You think the other one I have is the Bio Flames version?

I am quite certain that it is the bioflames version! It has the same file name, format and size according to your screenshot.

Cool. That's weird, I guess Bio Flames fixed it back in 2004? You'd think changing anything in the image would result in a different file size. Kind of weird how fixed versions are still popping up today... Maybe it's just the Bio Flames version in a BIN file instead of an ISO...

I honestly have no clue what the difference in this new fixed version is. (Or if anything is fixed/changed at all appart from the file format)
I am scanning the disc for corrupted sectors now to see if they match those in the bioflames version!

Out of curiosity, what tool are you using? CDmage?

Yeah, that's the only image editing tool which I have got to work flawlessly with PSX images so far.

                            Edit:
                            Cool!
The bioflames version has 106 corrupt sectors of which I got one repaired with CD Mage.
The new version had one corrupt sector which I got repaired!
Now guess which one's probably better!

                            Edit2:
I still wonder how he (the guy this came from) managed to get all these corrupt sectors repaired tough...
...and why that weirdo mentioned something about new rooms which clearly is not true.

                            Edit3:
Room 609 (KOSITU A) still crashes in this version, woo-hoo!
Not that I expected anything different. (Just as always, kill the Ivy without changing the camera angle to prevent it from crashing)

                            Just an advice:
Personally, I'd take this version with a grain of salt until (if ever) we have clarification over where this came from and more importantly how it came to be!
I am not going to replace the bioflames dump in my proto/beta collection with this one until I know for sure what this version really is!

                              Don't replace it, add it!

When I get my PSX I'm going to have some fun with this build on my TV. Even though we don't have access to flags, my knowledge taken from messing with 01/31 is enough to exploit the game to make a few interesting things happen.
