I think it's high time this got some attention. The series has been around for 15 years now and I have never heard any details of this book. Not even a plot summary. Basically, it is written by FLAGSHIP (who wrote the scenarios for the series between 1997-2004) and is the first novel based on the series to be released. That's all we know.

Does anyone have a copy, or know where to obtain a copy? I think it would make a fantastic 15 anniversary gift if we could get the entire novel professionally translated, maybe start a donation drive for it.

We're translating from the beginning, with native speakers. Our translation began on February 3th and is currently 11.80% complete, and yes, its seems very interesting.

Some actual plot info: The novel takes place on an island, where a castle is situated. The island is called "Gaidus Island" and the plot centers around a family that helped establish Umbrella.

After you have translated it from Japanese to English, English speaking people can go through the text and correct it properly. What you have posted is an example of bad grammar English. Surely, the point is understood but the grammar is bad. You should aim at quality material, and this is easy to do once you have finished the translation part.

I Have this book (you can find it for less than 1000yens on yahoo auctions), the begining is made of a few pages in manga-style, but after that's a normal novel.
Always wondered what was the story.

From what I remember of a plot summary, it was a suspicious lot like CODE:Veronica – almost as if they reused many ideas for the game later (the time of the release would imply so). The story had the same Alexia-style beautiful female genius scientist, she was also the result of an artificial birth, she had a castle on a remote island, and her family was involved with the founding of Umbrella. A little too many common denominators to call the game completely original.

Christine Henri was a similar figure whose family was involved with the founding of Umbrella. There's no castle in CV (it's a mansion) but there is in the Ada drama album. Then there's the castle in the BH4 version which became Devil May Cry, etc.

I assume they just re-tweaked a lot of base elements while brainstorming and drafting each scenario, since they were all written around the same time. There are common denominators in most of the FLAGHSIP-written games. Any details on the artificial birth? CODE: Veronica is pretty explicit with the details:

If a specific gene is electrically fused with a mature oocyte with nucleus removed, the ovum enters the process of fertilization, begins to divide and the same genes are fused = become a clone of the owner's genes (cloning process). Alexander also incorporated the genes (he prepared) of Veronica to the mature oocyte of a surrogate mother creating brother and sister, and his sperm was not introduced. Furthermore, it has been said to be currently impossible to create clones from genes of the deceased.

Nah, Christine's family just used to be branch executives, it's not mentioned if they actually co-founded Umbrella. The drama albums place Umbrella's founding earlier, too, since they were said to be around "for generations".
BTW: Name should be "Henry". "Henri" is a given name, "Henry" a family name. They just mixed it up in translation.

Well, castle or not, can't deny that there's a surprising number of similarities.

I'm pretty sure Henri is deliberate, as it's the French version of "Henry". And it's a French family. Also, Spencer was meant to be hundreds of years old initially, so I can see where the "for generations" thing comes from.

EDIT: Actually, quick look at Wikipedia says you're probably right. I guess they just thought "Henry? French? HENRI!" ahaha.

Oh, the island is called "ガディウォール島", which would probably be best transliterated as "Gadiwall Island". Had it as "Guardywall Island" first, but that would be "ガーディウォール島".

I could be wrong, but could the "for generations" thing be related to Okamoto's scenario idea of having a Ninja RE game, the one that eventually became Onimusha? It predates the release of the book by almost a year though.
