  • Biohazard 2 Beta Items

    Hello

I'm collecting all the "beta" items I can find on the Biohazard 2 Beta and Trial discs, this is only a preview, since there are many other items to add, nearly 30, just need the time to cut and positioning them

Fell free to correct my errors or edit the translations to a more comprehensible English.

As you can notice there are also some items that are present in the retail version, but taken from the Beta, so the description may be different, in the case it is the same, or there are not substantial differences, let me know.

      Thanks for sharing! That's nice!

Guess what, I did a similar list for Biohazard 1 some time ago! It's based on the Trial Edition. ("TEH BETAZ" were still unknown to the general public at that time)
I took pictures of every single item as it appears in the item menu!
      Download Link

Just thought I'd share it now, that I saw this post.

      Edit:
The picture names are in German, I'm afraid.
Whatever, I guess it's not that hard to make out what they are by looking at the pictures.

Also, did you guys know about this?

The mystery of Resident Evil 2's unused Chemicals:

      Blue Chemical:

      Red Chemical:

Ever tried combining the Blue Chemical with your everyday standard Grenade Launcher Ammo?

Guess what, your boring Grenades will turn into Napalm Grenades if you do so!

Or try combining the Grenades with the Red Chemical instead!

You'll get 6 (only 4 in this picture because that's all the normal Grenade Ammo I had) Acid Grenades:

Another thing of interest is this:

(Note that the small icon does not match the chemical bottle depicted in the examine window)
(The bottle in the examine window matches the look of the Red and Blue Chemicals tough, so the small icon might be a leftover from an earlier design)

There are three Chemicals in the BH2 Trial Edition/RE2 Preview, not just two!
In BH2 Beta 2 this (referred to "Custom Chemical" in the description) Chemical is gone.

The third one, a Big Green Chemical is created by combining the Red and Blue Chemicals!
Combining the Green one with Grenades does not work tough.

I have no clue what the Green Chemical is/was used for...
I've never posted my discovery on THIA before, so I thought this is a fitting moment to finally do so!

I have rediscovered a lot of my old hacking stuff on an old backup drive I found gathering dust in the cellar!
There's a lot of stuff on it I never shared here simply because I thought I had lost it.

But hey, better late than never, I guess!

Yes, but I've not found the time to check if they worked combined, since I've done all the basic translation, but not putted them together with the corresponding pictures.

Now I've to pick pictures of the Beta Precinct keys and of the C Lock Bolt that I've forgot to save (thanks Enrico Marini for the pictures of the USA Trial version)

Groundbreaking! So those chemicals were to be mixed with the grenade launcher!

I bet mixing the green chemical with the grenade would have giving you an Anti-B.O.W. Gas Rounds like in Code: Veronica, as the color of the ammunition in that game is green! This ammo-creation idea predates RE3's gunpowder mixing, too. Awesome job!

The interesting thing is the grenade mixing thing originated in 1.5. I don't think it used the exact same chemicals though.

There were "Antidote Grenades" for the grenade launcher in 1.5 as well.

This has been known for awhile.... i had a video up on my old youtube account that got closed "betamanglitches", it showed me mixing each chemical and the outcome of each.

There's more, I've not found time to put it together, as already know the chemicals in the Trial can be combined together to make a full recover medicine (this chemical is already in the .PDF), the description of the chemical is different from the Beta

                薬品A
                薬品のようだ
                向かと組み合わせて使うのだろうか?

                Chemical/Medicine A

                Seems to be a medicine
Combined with what I can use it?

Well, it's not perfect but the the sense is it

                  Medicine!?
But it's used to create new ammunition...

That makes no sense, or did Capcom actually change plans mid-development and give those items a new purpose before scrapping them completely for the final build?

The Chemicals and the Antidote Spray are very reminiscent of 1.5...
I hate the fact that they brought those herbs back for the "new" RE2.

Using Chemicals and Sprays as healing items was more realistic in my opinion.
And the ammunition mixing feature was yet another innovation first introduced in 1.5 (even tough we never got the see it) which was later reused for a future RE game.

Somehow I think that 1.5 is like a huge repository of ideas which Capcom is slowly using up for upcoming games.

1.5 was literally stuffed with new gameplay elements and features whereas all the things 1.5 had are now sparsely reused during the rest of the RE series with each new game featuring a glimpse of what we had gotten with 1.5 in a single game years ago.

Yea, there are also a few things that are very similar to re1.5 in re:cv.

I always thought that the Zombies with the dark blue uniforms in CV look a lot like those police Zombies of 1.5 which also wear dark blue uniforms!

The spiders are also somewhat 1.5 like in CV.
And it has the aforementioned B.O.W. Gas Grenades.
(The idea of B.O.W. Gas was already introduced in the final RE2 but not in the form of Grenade Ammo)

Oh, then there are those key card controlled shutters in the training facility!
These also remind me of 1.5! (The only difference being that you could open AND close them in 1.5)

But CV is not the only game with inspirations taken from the canceled RE2.
RE3 is filled with reused 1.5 stuff (Fat Zombies, Grenades, Shotgun holding animation, ammunition mixing), there's so much I am not going to count it all here.

And REZero has the Molotov's which work exactly like 1.5's Grenades, a few backgrounds which are very similar to 1.5 "Landmarks" and probably some other stuff I forgot at the moment...

^ Zero had planned the Firing Range but it was later replaced by the square room where you fight the Hunter by the first time on the basement. It also tried to implement the grenades at some point, the beta item is still on the Trial disc. My two cents.

                          Sounds interesting!
How do you know that the firing range was planned for Zero?

Is this info from an interview/magazine or is there anything on the game disc that suggests so?

There's artwork of it. It comes from some Japanese guides, you can find it on Survivhor though.
