Right, because you've totally played it before and despite hearing about multiple game modes, weapon customization, custom loadouts, etc. say it should still be extra DLC.

What I played at Pax East was fun, and it's a great way to make Mercs a standalone, I think most people are upset because it's only a 3DS title so far.

You have to remember though, Mercenaries is a pick up and play game, it doesn't require a lot of time to get enjoyment out of it. This kind of game is perfect for the handheld market, so it's really no surprise to me that it's made it's way to at least one handheld console, nor do I mind that fact.

The 3DS might have some great titles that catch my interest down the road. I don't care if people are buying 3DS handhelds now, but I'm going to wait it out to see what tweaks they make for it and what other games come out. Hell the games that do interest me may even get ported elsewhere. Lacking the 3D, but I can live with that. 3D doesn't interest me.
When I was a kid it was easy to overlook such things and get a whole new system. Like save up for a dreamcast to play games like Code Veronica and Sonic Adventure 2...both titles that would come to gamecube updated. Or the much hyped RE4 being gamecube exclusive. They found a way to port that to high heaven.
Point is at this day and age in my life I can only be a cautious fan. And I can tell when I'm getting the short end of the stick. I'm sure mercs 3D will be fun to play, but I know they could have done more for that title. I would be happy to get that and a few other games right now, but none of them look like must buys to me. And knowing Capcom's reputation I don't believe this is the end of mercs. Whether it be a port or super version of that same title....something will come.Last edited by Smiley; 05-29-2011, 01:40 PM.

Now, if someone like Jun Takeuchi or Masachika Kawata had said something along those lines, that would be an entirely different matter. Kramer was there to promote Resident Evil 5, and knowing, for example, whether or not Barry survived the events of RE1 was irrelevant to that particular job. Frankly, it's not even the type of question that should have been asked of someone in his position.

Just because it doesn't have a damn number in the title, it doesn't mean it's not part of the main series.
And there hasn't been 'pure horror' in a RE game since RE2/RE3 so, the theory that we'll only see that in the main series is also false.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

I think CODE: Veronica qualifies as more of a "pure horror" game than either RE2 or RE3. Of course, that depends on your definition of "pure horror." Atmospherically, CV has both RE2 and RE3 beaten in that regard, but it suffered from overabundant ammunition, healing items, and just an overall ridiculously easy difficulty.
On the flip side, both RE2 and RE3 also had copious amounts of ammunition and healing items, but they were more challenging than CV. So again, I guess it comes down to one's definition of a "pure horror" experience.
Honestly, I think only the original RE1 falls into that category. REmake was significantly easier, so I have to give the nod to the original in that regard.

IMO The setting of RE2 and RE3 was more horrific than CVX. A small city with its entire population turning into zombies. Then you learn about the corruption and conspiracy behind that. And how the feds handle it all. That plot was a take on Romero's 1973's classic "The Crazies".
It's a very sinister plotline. Where you don't know who to trust. In the remake, the town is even nuked like what happened to Raccoon City in RE3.
I actually find the original RE1 way too easy. While the REmake has more to it that complicates things for you. Plus it offers you some modes that are quite challenging. Like Invisible mode.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

I think it's safe to say that in terms of atmosphere RE can handle that well enough even in Code Veronica and RE4. The Ashford estates are certainly eerie if not scary. Initially RE4's village and castle provided some sense of awe and mystery before we wound up guns a blazing on the island.

Originally posted by Archelon View PostI said this back then, and I'll say it again. I don't think it's entirely fair the way people reacted to Chris Kramer's comments. He's a marketing guy. No more, no less. You don't get hired to that position because of your encyclopedic knowledge of a particular game or series. This was my issue when Biohaze (I think it was Biohaze?) interviewed him, and they were practically blaming him for changes that had been made to the franchise over which he had no control whatsoever.
Now, if someone like Jun Takeuchi or Masachika Kawata had said something along those lines, that would be an entirely different matter. I'll be interested to see if Revelation's plot stands up to the hype it's under, I must admit. The only real thing I can think of is letting us see Alex Wesker (during his experiments to find immortality, perhaps?), or whoever the next big bad will be, and helping to build them up to replace Wesker. They need to do something along those lines at some point, anyway.
Otherwise, I just can't see how Revelations is gonna be terribly revealing. It takes place before RE5, so it can't be about TriCell, it's after Umbrella has collapsed...I dunno. We'll see.

When discussing the difficulty of the game, I mean the main campaign that you play the first time through, before you unlock any other modes, even if they are actually more challenging. The reason for this is that any game can be made more difficult if there are new parameters, whether they are implemented by the players themselves or the game.
In the case of horror games, in particular, you should get the same sense of terror, uneasiness, dread, etc, regardless of the difficulty or mode you are playing (except perhaps for the Very Easy or Easy modes). It shouldn't matter what difficulty you're playing on. If you aren't scared playing on Normal or Hard, chances are you won't be scared on higher difficulties either. You'll face a greater challenge, certainly, and possibly even greater frustration, but it's not going to scare you any more than it did on the lower difficulties.
In the case of something like the Invisible Enemy mode in REmake, or Nightmare mode in RE2, the games aren't made any scarier, just more challenging. Again, this is just my perspective on it, but when judging a horror game, the base mode is what I go by as far as how scary or challenging it is.
Originally posted by Darkmoon View PostI'd disagree. If you're getting paid a good salary to advertise a game, the biggest selling one your company makes in fact, then you really should know more than the basics about the product you're selling. If it had only been the Barry comment, I would likely have forgotten, but the Chainsaw comment (and I think, but can't remember, a few others) ruined the guys credibility for anything more detailed than, 'It's a game called Resident Evil, and some monsters are in it).
And if they've only played Resident Evil 4, then it's likely to them, it wouldn't be Resident Evil without a chainsaw enemy, so from their perspective, his comment would make sense. You really have to look at the audience. The fact that so many established fans took such offense at his comments (a sure sign that some fans take this stuff way too seriously) is, frankly, laughable. Again, if someone like Jun Takeuchi or Masachika Kawata had said it, that would be another matter entirely. In fact, I think Kawata has said similar things in the past, and I don't ever recall anyone jumping on him like they did Kramer.Last edited by Archelon; 05-29-2011, 11:25 PM.

I know Mercs is going to keep continuing, although in what form I don't know. If it be an updated 3D, I wouldn't be surprised. A port? Good for the people who don;t wanto get a 3DS. Or even a whole new Mercs entry that expands it on consoles.
