  • If Resident Evil 6 revolved around Ada, I would die from happiness. In my honest opinion, she's the best female character by far in the series. And she has the most questions surrounding her story. Though I almost prefer her to remain mysterious, because that's one of the reasons I love her so much.

Ideally, I would love the see a new character introduced. Even if it's someone who has affiliations with older characters, and there are a few cameos maybe.

So have Chris and Jill. You can't deny that getting Jill into RE5 was fairly convoluted. And, of course, several of the characters goals have been achieved - Umbrella's gone, so they had to switch Jill and Chris to fighting all Bio-Terrorism outbreaks, for example. It really wouldn't be hard to make a semi-decent way to get most of the characters into a game.

      Sherry

      - The virus/anti-virus in her blood mutates, turning her into a Typhoid Mary - she's spreading disease but is, herself, immune. Depending on her role this can create a number of moral dilemmas and suitable drama.

      - Or even easier - she uses her massive inherited brain power and becomes a scientist fighting the virus. Outbreak within her lab/flown in as a specialist/etc.

      - And that's assuming the current thought that Wesker doesn't/didn't have her in custody is right, of course. That has a number of other potential options, ranging from, 'Rescue the Test Tube Maiden' to 'Why didn't you save me, Claire, now I've turned evil and will kill everyone' depending on your favoured level of drama.

      Carlos

      - BSAA recruits him as one of the handful of survivors from Raccoon City, especially one with military training and experience.

      - Someone offers him money to do something. He's a merc. It's what they do. 'Go retrieve the sample virus, Carlos. No, no talking, your accent offends me.'

      - He joins a post apocalyptic convoy, but totally ignores the obvious signs his friend has been bitten even though he's been dealing with this shit for years and end up being bitten because he was dumb.*

      Billy

      - Given the choice - one last mission or back to death row. How many cheesy movies have this premise?

      - Signs up with the BSAA, either having been cleared of charges or under a fake name (someone who didn't make it outta Raccoon City so he'd have the reason and no easy way to double check?)

      - Helping Rebecca by pulling bodyguard duty.

      Rebecca

      - Field tests on anti-virus with Professor Becca Support. Tests fail. Base over run. Oh noes!

      - BSAA Medical/Science tea sent to active zone and forced into active role.

      - Went into loony commando mode after Raccoon City (and nay loved ones she had there) was also gobbled and became Vasquez without the accent. Although why you'd wanna...

      Barry

      - Too old for official missions, Barry supports people via radio - and occasionally comes in via chopper with enough fire power to level a small 3rd World Country.

      - Whichever city the BSAA is based in is hit by a bio-terrorist attack, just to prove they can. Barry's at work and has to blast his wrinkled ass through the monsters to get home to his wife and his college caged children who just happen to be visiting because it's the 4th of July. Or something.

      - Tired of being called old, Barry beats up Chris and Jill and leads there mission himself, coming back with a perfect success rate and no losses to his troops.

      Steve

      - He could appear in a test tube, dead.

      - He could be in a morgue or lab. Also dead.

      - His face could be clued to a hideous mutant creature. Since he's dead.

And that's just character specific stuff that I can think up on four hour sleep. It's not good, not by any stretch, but it's about equal to the standard level of Resident Evil motivation. It also doesn't include the, 'Ooops, I'm at a airport when a virus outbreak occurs' style stories. If nothing else, they'll make better cannon fodder for death scenes than some unknown character whose just shown up twenty minutes ago.

      * Yes, I did find this extra annoying.

Jill fanboys attack imminent. Prepare for bombardment.

Well there you go. Some of those ideas sound really appealing to me. However I bet that Capcom's gonna pull the Leon card. Because Leon sells. Why bother using another character when you have one liners and exceptional superhuman stunt skills? (I don't dislike Leon that much, but it's getting stale).

So you do want another Metal Gear Solid 4?

Ensemble character casts rarely work and are boring as all fuck. biohazard DEGENERATION was already pretty bad because of the twisting it took to get Claire and Leon on the same screen. And that wasn't even as chock-full of coincidences. The goal should be to keep it fresh with the introduction of new characters to help drive the story, not boring and contrived in order to accommodate old faces that already have the appeal of fruit flies.

That doesn't make them good. And from what I can tell, some people would accept Barry coming back as a juggler on a plane if it just meant he'd come back in some form.

I strongly disagree. New side characters can add something fresh and interesting to the story.
Steve was perhaps annoying but he added some depth to Code Veronica's story for example.
Same for Billy even though he felt a bit out of place.

In my opinion, Capcom just needs to make them more than just sidekicks to the main protagonists. That's it.
Sheva felt unnecessary for example, because she didn't add anything to RE5 story other than being Chris' sidekick.

I don't give a rat's ass about the old side characters. Their stories are done. There's no point in bringing them back.
i agree and disagree with you.I agree that they should make new characters but i disagree that the older side kick characters should be gone for good.there is so much they can do with those older characters.

I dont think Capcom could do the characters justice.

I'm just saying, calm down. And I think there's potential for some forgotten characters to return, not all of them of course, Billy and Carlos come to mind when I think of characters that should not come back.

Or rather, fighting against bioterrorism. That destroyed her brother in the end.
It is all explained in that diary thingy. She settled down and now gives diving lessons for a living.

That's the thing - most of those ideas aren't big coincidences, they're just playing up on the character's background. They're no where near as big as Claire just happening to be in the airport at the exact right time for an outbreak and there response being to send in Leon, for example.

I'm not saying have the whole cast in a single game - MGS4 proved the issues with that plan. I'm simply saying that, unless Capcom have decided it must be so, they can easily pull out those characters, dust them off and slap them in a game.

And, then, hopefully kill some of them. For deal biological weapons we have a far higher survival rate than is really good for them, and it would be nice to see some survivors whittled down. I just doubt it'll ever happen. I keep expecting them reveal Bravo Team actually survived, and that Wesker wasn't melted (pleasepleaseplease Capcom don't have the next game have Alex Wesker jumped by Albert or something like that...)

But, yes. Most of the old characters could appear in a new game, and I'd rather they thinned there ranks before adding yet more one shot characters we'll never, ever see again.

The new Resident Evil game cicle will begin again: people will make the most absurd guesses regarding who the character shown is, there will be hundreds of stupid theories with no sense whatsoever and everybody will say that the horror is back at the series, no matter what is shown. Also, there'll be bitching and moaning.
You are grumpy sir ! I do agree with every word though, but there would be little forum activity without that lovely mess you just described so accurately ! Due to the past 'reveals' for RE4 & RE5 I will temper my excitement, but I am very intrigued to see if the producers quote long ago, about wanting to see the setting within the old & eerie streets of London, was developed further.
