It seems whenever the idea of killing someone comes up the version gets scrapped. Leon in RE4; Jill in RE5. You justify a predictable standard of main characters surviving as though it's a good thing.

The only character I was ever surprised for surviving (outside of Wesker) was Billy ****ing Coen. How was I supposed to know Rebecca was a rotten liar in her report?

Other than that.... I miss the days where characters could die. RE1 being one of my favorites for having some balls in killing off all your comrades based on your play through.

Yeah, because I don't want to survive an entire game just to see my character die during the ending. It seems logical, at least to me. It will feel like I've played for nothing. The point of biohazard is to survive, why the hell would people want to see the main protagonist die at the end?

We have absolutely no idea if Leon was going to die at the end of 3.5. I think people were confused by Paul Mercier's statements regarding 3.5. He said Leon would eventually die, but at the same time he said it was only a recording for a demo, so he never recorded the whole game. In all honesty, I think it's more likely that Leon was going to survive at the end of 3.5.
And it was never intended for Jill to really die, they even revealed her in stasis BEFORE they announced her death, it was just a shock announce to confuse players and to drive the story. Nothing more.

Perhaps one day they will eventually kill off Leon or Jill, but if that's the case, they will not be the main protagonists of the game that will reveal their demise.

That's why you have Parker and Jessica - new easily disposable characters ;)

It's going to happen the same thing that happened with the first RE5 trailer, almost nothing shown in the RE6 trailer will be used and everything will be changed by the second trailer.

The new Resident Evil game cicle will begin again: people will make the most absurd guesses regarding who the character shown is, there will be hundreds of stupid theories with no sense whatsoever and everybody will say that the horror is back at the series, no matter what is shown. Also, there'll be bitching and moaning.

Leon must be back as main character then do we think? Or will they pretty ballsy and introduce a new leading character?

I agree, I played a another game that did this recently Spoiler:
and it just pissed me off for wasting the 20-30 hours I spent on the game, just for that BS to happen making it all rather meaningless.

edit: I think it is time Claire got another starring role, though Capcom have painted her into a corner in terms of options, and getting stuck in a outbreak at the wrong time a fourth time is pushing it too much. People complain about Leon, Chris and Jill being agents but it gives them good reason to encounter bioweapons.

I'd like to see Leon as the main character! -And as much as I hate Claire, I think I'd like to see her as the main, if not Leon. I'm just really tired of Chris and Jill... Leon and Chris would be interesting, though..

                    Can't wait for the TGS!

I think Leon will be main character. Maybe Re Damnation is a prequel for RE6.

BTW Very nice logo...hints at horror.

Just curious, how many beta versions does everyone think THIS may have?

Overall, at TGS I'm going to have to be shouting out online "Don't listen to Capcom's lies!" (Final Fantasy XII joke "Don't listen to Ondore's lies!!") because of their track record by now.

Also, anyone going to buy this on it's first release - high possibility of a secondary version, if they release a PC version and a benchmark then we know how that's going to go after the RE5 one.

What do you mean? The first trailer showed: sunny location, Chris, running enemies (Majini) and a volcano-themed logo. Sure, the final location looked different, but overall the concept that was shown there was in the final game as well.

When they said sequel, they didn't mean chronologically but in terms of what the game has to offer. So no, Revelations is going to be a main title, just like Code Veronica.
Also, the fact that we already know that Chris and Jill live at the end doesn't ruin the horror aspect for me. Well, honestly...I just don't believe Kawata. I've heard too much bullshit out of Capcom to believe them. Resident Evil 5 was 'Fear you Can't Forget' and all the stuff about how horrifying that was. Darkside Chronicles was a return to horror, too.

Now, I may well be wrong but here's the problem - Revelations can't move story wise. Chris and Jill can't find out anything about how evil TriCell is or they'd know about it in RE5. It's after Umbrella's fall. The best the game can do is introduce a new main badguy. CODE: Veronica was important for the same reason - it introduced Wesker (again) and showed he was collecting virus'. That's the only way I can see this game being main title worthy. Unfortunately, it also suggests the Alex Wesker storyline is goooooo.

But, again, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out it's mostly about the BSAA and, while interesting storyline wise (maybe...) it's not really important. Kinda like RE4. It's really not all that important in terms of the overall plot.

And no, I never expect the protagonist of a RE game to die. I've still got the horrible feeling that Wesker will return. That doesn't mean it's a good thing - in a horror game, book or movie part of the fear is to establish that the characters can die. You care for the character and then they're killed. certain other games such as one mentioned earlier by Rockstar do it badly - no build up and with limited reasoning behind it. In a Resident Evil game, as long as it's actually done right, it could be a powerful moment to see a long term character die.

Instead, we get two random new characters. One or possibly both of them will die instead. The status quo is maintained. And no one will give a shit.
