  • Leon's Updated Epilogue

The scene at the end of "Memory of a Lost City" in BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES where Leon is taken into the custody of the U.S. Government almost word-for-word mirrors his epilogue file in BIOHAZARD 3 LAST ESCAPE. Except "Ah, but she knows too much." 「ああ、だが知り過ぎている」 has been replaced by the lines starting with, "She is carrying the precious antibody against G." 「貴重なG抗体を宿している」, and a part where the official makes it clear to Leon that they aren't going to kill him or Sherry, which was somewhat implied in the original. And is completely missing from the English version of DC, go figure.

The part about Sherry carrying the G-antibody actually comes from Wesker's Report. It's the "something" inside her which Wesker alludes to. Although the original text for WR seems to imply Birkin hiding something in her, which just isn't the case.

"You know we can do something to you and that little girl."

Leon Scott Kennedy was facing the man who identified himself as a U.S. government intelligence official.

"So you're going to kill me..."

"This is a country of hope and freedom, we won't do things like that. No one can predict death, you may even die tomorrow.... It's a fact that can't be denied, except for God himself."

The man distorted his lips slightly into a smile.

"Leave Sherry out of this. She is not guilty."

"She is carrying the precious antibody against G. Of course, we won't do anything despicable to her."

The man glanced up briefly, looking him straight in the face.

"Let's talk frankly. We value and appreciate your ability. And this won't be bad for you. To make everything go peacefully, you have only one choice. Work for us."

Leon closed his eyes and replied.

Right, but you do remember that some of the stuff on the Chronicles series aren't canon, do you?

No kidding. Generally all of the "historic summary" parts are not canon. This part is, though. It's been deliberately re-written very specifically and is the only part which appears in both the summary and other material. Sherry's sections in the INSIDE OF BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES also mention it.

After the Raccoon incident, the tragedy of Sherry didn't come to an end. Because the natural antibody against G is in her body, the US government sent a force to find and "protect" her, and then started observation and research on the antibody. In order to keep her safe, Leon chose to join the intelligence of the United States.
Sherry is now under the custody of the U.S. government, but among the personnel in the department, many of them are spies working for Albert Wesker. So in fact Sherry is now in a terrible position of double jeopardy.
It's generally all-round better than the original epilogue, which doesn't quite fit. Leon seems perfectly okay with working against his will under the threat of death against himself and a young girl, which makes his interactions with Hunnigan and whatnot quite creepy.

It also generally fits and is the case regardless if it needs to be stated or not, since Sherry will have antibodies against G no matter what given that she received the "DEVIL" vaccine. They have only made it explicitly important now. It's like the addition of Death's Door in BIOHAZARD UMBRELLA CHRONICLES, where Ada gets the G-Virus from a tissue fragment of Birkin rather than the sample from Sherry's pendant.
