Less 'Was it racist?' and more 'Did Capcom change the enemies and add Sheva to make the game appear less racist to the loonies?'

I mean, let's be fair - can you imagine the screams if they set it in Africa and didn't include black folk?

RE5 isn't racist, it's culturaly ignorant, the Japanese simply don't have contact with the slavery and racism involving black people.

That polemic reminds me of one of the south park episode, when they are debating whether or not the south park flag is racist.
The conclusion could fit in RE5 case : The children didn't give a damn about different color skin so they didn't see anything racist in the south park flag. That made the people calling it racist the real racists in the end because they were the only one pointing out the skin differences.

Intentional or not, RE5 can certainly be construed to be racist.

Ppl who either believe there is and there isn't racism in RE5 are not over this shit. Both sides are still very emotional over this subject.

And ignoring that there is diversity within the human race is just as ignorant as pointing out that this or that is racist. I know ppl consider South Park to be something like the Bible, but they also get it wrong.

Well actually I did have a very big problem with RE4 now that you bring it up. Leon is without a doubt the worst protagonist I've ever seen in a Resident Evil game. And I've played Survivor. He could very well be racist toward Spaniards.

Let's take a step by step play through at the beginning of Resident Evil 4.

Leon heads over to a man's house looking for the whereabouts of the President's Daughter. He is not in America mind you so he should be more considerate to other people's homes.

As he walks to the house we see him shooting at birds, breaking crates and even shattering a window!

Then he enters the man's house without so much as a knock on the door. There's no probable cause for this. Leon is trespassing and abusing his authority.

The man, who was only tending to his fire mind you, looks over to see a stranger in his house. Leon puts his gun away flashes a photo and begins talking under the assumption that the man knows English. Why he didn't go back for one of the Policia to translate is anyone's guess.

Now to the man this trespasser is armed, enters his house, and talks in a foreign language. He could very well be a threat. He says something in Spanish which roughly translates to "Who are you get out of my house". While Leon takes his sweet little time the man braces himself, and out of fear for his life he defends himself and his property by lunging his axe at Leon. Instead of Leon leaving the home or calling for backup to restrain him he takes the law into his own hands and guns the man down. The man died without knowing who the American was or why he chose to invade his home.

This village is small. Small enough that everybody knows everybody. They have an appointed chief and essentially govern themselves. They commune and work together farming and looking after their own. So once the man's friends see that Policia brought a ruthless American over to shoot one of their friends they decided to act. Leon sees them defending their village and takes the matter into his hands again to shoot all these folk. As Leon ventures into their land he even goes as far as to shoot their cattle. The only source of milk they have. And little by little Leon slaughters a village overnight due to a misunderstanding and Leon's own ignorance.

Now you can say "Oh Smiley! They were infected with a parasite!". Prove it. The only symptoms are coughing blood, the eyes, and that they liquidate after being killed. Some of those villagers might have been infected with las plagas. But could you prove all of them were? Certainly not the man Leon encountered at the beginning. A parasite never popped out of him. He never dissolved. Leon even goes as far as to state he's not a zombie. Clearly the PTSD never left Raccoon City for the paranoid agent. He glances at Halloween decorations as though they were real skeletons and draws wild conclusions about people being infected. It's sickening.

So with that in mind it's no wonder RE5 tried to be less racist. Now Chris has a partner to ease the tension. She can translate for him if need be. They also encounter probable cause to check on someone when they hear him screaming out the top of his lungs and both BSAA agents witness two men holding him down. We can clearly see a parasite forced in his mouth and symptoms of blood coming out of him before he attacks them. Capcom played it safe with RE5 where as in RE4 Leon was clearly at fault for his actions.
