1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica. These really held a special place for me. A lot of great memories there. I've enjoyed almost all of the games in form or another except for Resident Evil: Gaiden

Post RE 1 and before RE2 era, when I was playing the RE2 demo at blockbuster every night after school.
There was just something so special about that time for me. I guess because now, it's hard to be surprised by a sequel. We've been to Spain, Africa, Antarctica, Russia, etc. Back then, you had just been in a mansion in the middle of the woods, so finding out that the next game consisted of an entire city infested with zombies...was pretty mind blowing to say the least.
Also, it was one of the best times in the world to be a Resident Evil fan, because everyone played RE2 and everyone at school talked about it. Even if someone never played a RE game before or after, if they owned a Playstation in 1998, chances are they had RE2 on that bitch.
The release of RE4 is the only other time I felt like I was a part of something special, because once again the whole world stopped and noticed. Even people who only played certain series/genres like Mario fans, RPG fans, Pokemon fans, Madden fans(not to say you can't love multiple games), etc. had to get their hands on the "must have" game of the year.
The only difference to me, was that RE2's release really hit home as far as Raccoon city, zombies, etc. and of course my love for the first game. To sum it up, waiting for the arrival of RE2 was my favorite time, because RE1 had taken the world by storm and I had a feeling the sequel was going to be awesome...and as we all know, it was exactly that.Last edited by REmaster; 09-23-2011, 12:59 AM."One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars."

RE3 launch was nothing special to me, didn't even know that it was released until I saw my cousin playing it. BioCV I got the Japanese version on release (slightly before US), awesome game, though I got it the same day I went on holiday so I was limited to translating the Japanese manual on the plane.. RE4 I just pre-ordered, no special story, great game though..

I didn't know RE3 came out either until I saw the commercial on the telly a couple weeks after releasing. I was working 12 hour shifts at a factory job when 4 came out, so I didn't really notice for awhile. When I realized it was out I quit my job and played it for two months straight before going to college.Last edited by REmaster; 09-23-2011, 06:31 AM."One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars."

I remember being so desperate for RE2, constantly hassling the guy I knew who got imported games to see if it was in yet, getting Director's Cut for the demo and the extra shot of RE. He nearly shot me. He did make me buy RE2 as part of a bundle of games as punishment, but eh.

Best era for me : 1998 - 2002.
I discovered RE in 1998 (I'll never forget it, just like Leon ) and the first time the series really started to disappoint me it's when REzero came out. Since then, the only RE game I really liked was RE4.
So, best era : RE1 -> REmake

RE1 for PS1 will always be my favourite of all time.
I was 12 and my brother was kinda scared to play it so I would play as he would watch and we didn't have a memory card OR a PS1 at the time so we rented it from Blockbuster video. We had no clue what the hell we were doing and at 4am, I had finally made it to Yawn in the attic and I died because I didn't know you didn't have to fight it <.<
....so, yeah, no memory card, took forever to get there, and the rush of disappointment over dying was immense.

While Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game in the series, I'm probably going to have to go with the Playstation 1 era. Not just because the series was new and fresh at the time (though Resident Evil 4 went a long way to rekindling that feeling, RE5 basically ruined it), but it was before the series really jumped the shark with CODE: Veronica.
Part of the reason I really got into the series to begin with was the whole "it could happen" feel, which is probably why I was never really able to get into other horror series like Silent Hill. Resident Evil just felt more real, and I liked that aspect. But then came CODE: Veronica, and that feeling was just thrown right out the window. Every game since then, save for perhaps REmake, just followed suit.
I've since come to terms with the direction the series took plot-wise since CODE: Veronica, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish it never took that direction to begin with. I still maintain that CODE: Veronica did tons more to ruin the plot of the RE series than RE4 ever did, at least for me, anyway.
It also didn't help that CV was a major step back from RE2 and 3 in the gameplay department.

I played RE2 when it first came out, then the REmake, and then RE4, but I didn't really get into RE until Umbrella Chronicles.. So, I guess I can't really have a "favorite era". The series has had it's ups and downs, and I generally like the whole saga thus far. (Some parts more than others.. >__>..)
