The best era of Resident Evil for you

CODE: Veronica brought back Wesker, which turned into a rod for the series back. I wouldn't say it was worse than RE4's, 'You know that company you've been trying to defeat for a bunch of games, the ones you've been working to get rid of? Done! Oh, wait, YOU wanted to do it? No, the prologue is a better place to vanquish such a foe' intro. I have to skip the intro to this day, it leaves such a nasty taste in my mouth.

Love RE4 to death, but I do agree that killing off Umbrella in the intro was bullshit. Though.. Didn't they kind of make up for that in Umbrella Chronicles with the Russian Facility scenario? That was pretty much the last legs of Umbrella, right? Chris and Jill finished them off and Wesker stole the data.. At least it was something.. ..

See, I've never had a problem with the way Umbrella was taken down in RE4. It made more sense to have a government crackdown on the company than to have a small group of individuals somehow overthrow a multinational conglomerate simply by blowing up the HQ.
Like I said, part of the reason I got into RE to begin with was its relative sense of believability, so seeing how Umbrella was ultimately dismantled didn't bother me nearly as much as some people (and then Umbrella Chronicles had to go and muck it all up).
I should probably also mention that by the time RE4 was released, I really didn't care much about the story anymore anyway, so the drastic shift didn't bother me either. And I guess that's what I really meant when I said CV did more to ruin the story for me than RE4. After CV, I just stopped caring. It wasn't until RE4 that I really got back into the plot, because it was just so fresh and exciting, and it offered countless opportunities to expand the universe without being beholden to elements like Umbrella or the t-Virus.
It showed, to me, that you could still have Resident Evil even without what many considered to be the trademark pillars of the franchise. Of course, Degeneration and RE5 had to turn around and say everything ultimately links back to Umbrella, so a lot of the potential from RE4 was lost.
And yes, RE4 had a ridiculous story, but it was only following along in the tradition of games like CV and Zero. CV really opened the door to the more "out there" aspects of the series, and each subsequent game has just taken that ball and run with it. I'm pretty sure the only reason REmake managed to escape this was because it was a remake of the first game, which obviously took place before any of this other crazy stuff happened.

Hey, hey! I didn't say it was a good scenario, just something. -And forget TALOS, what about the Ivans? Those things were freaky and hilarious at the same time. Like disco tyrants.

Originally posted by Bianca View PostThat Russian facility scenario was probably one of the worst moments of the series... For crying out loud, who the hell thought that T-A.L.O.S. garbage was even a remotely good idea? No... Just say no, kids.Mass production? Ridiculous!
