They also say it takes place AFTER RE5. They've been known in the past to mix up characters and events in the series. Doesn't mean the game will turn out bad, but you don't need GI's word to get excited over it.

EDGE - Gives Resident Evil: Revelations - 6 out of 10.
It seems that they had a problem with how the gameplay was some sort of a hybrid type of gameplay... read their conclusion here:
Revelations is a pick 'n' mix of the series' iconography and mechanics, then. It takes the best and worst of Resident Evils past and present, and spot welds them together unevenly. If the designers had committed wholeheartedly to either polarity of action or horror, Revelations might have been a head shot, but what we're left with is more of a glancing blow.
P.S. That's the same site that gave RE5 a 7/10 & also scored RE4 with a 9/10.Last edited by Pikminister; 01-13-2012, 11:33 AM.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

To be honest, if their main gripe is just the episodic switching of characters and settings, then I don't think we'll have too much to worry about. I'm assuming once the game is complete we can pick and choose which level to play so we could go through it in its chronological order anyway."I've got 100 cows."
"Well I've got 104 friends."

So I dunno, I'll wait for the full review to be posted.

So EDGE scored it a 6/10 because they want all action, or all horror. What a shitty view. Attempting to blend them is the best thing CAPCOM has done in recent memory.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Not really. Now they have a problem of catering to all the gamer types they brought in. They'll never satisfy the lot of them at this rate expecting the next RE1 or the next RE4. RE5 was an action game, but even then action gamers were pissed at the restrictions of movement because they couldn't run and gun. Then it was fixed for Revelations. I imagine they'll have the same problem being accustomed to limited ammo and complain about not having enough. Old school fans like myself miss the camera angles, classic enemies, and the like.
Especially when these days they are more action oriented. ORC is nonstop action even with classic enemies. Revelations has a blend of action and horror, but still uses the RE4/RE5 mechanics, and a co-op Raid Mode are also crunched in.
The RE series is a mess right now. Unlike DmC I'd say a reboot is welcomed at this rate.

6/10 isn't a bad score - if translated to a 3/5 system it would be a solid 3. Meh, score is irrelevent these days anyway, I'd sooner reviewers did away with scores altogether.
I'm not fond of Edge's "Let's review a gamer lower than everywhere else" approach to reign in hits, either.
But no, criticising a game because it's something it's not (the more focussed approach to horror or action) is a bit of a low blow, it's like playing Grand Theft Auto and saying "Well the mission structure ties in the with driving sections well, but it would of probably been better had it just featured street racing and nothing else altogether.".
This is the publication that infamously marked Doom (the original Doom) down for not being able to speak to and create alliances with the demons. (!)http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
