As has already been shared, the latest issue of Game Informer gave Revelations a 9 out of 10. Strangely, they still insist on spelling Terragrigia as "Terrorgrigia." I thought this was just a bad pun they were using in the previews, but they apparently think that's the actual spelling of the city's name. They also claim that it is set after the events of Resident Evil 5, but that has already been pointed out on numerous occasions. It does make me wonder, however, just how much of this misconception was due to reviewer simply not paying attention, or if Revelations is really that disconnected from the other games in the series story-wise. It certainly doesn't sound like it is as "revelatory" as its title would suggest, though the reviewer praises the story nonetheless, stating that it is "actually...coherent for once."
They also say that the episodic nature greatly benefits not only the storytelling but the pacing of the game, as well. The more action-oriented sections of the game where you play as Chris and Keith offer breaks from the much slower-paced, puzzle and exploration driven nature of Jill's portion. The controls have been tweaked since Mercs 3D, and they greatly enhance the experience, with the reviewer making special note of the dodge mechanic. The amount of ammunition available is also greatly reduced, and players will have to make sure to scan the environments with the Genesis Scanner if they expect to find more. The new weapon customization system also goes a long way to helping players deal with ammo shortages.
The only negatives mentioned are Quint and Keith's voiceovers and dialogue, though the upgrade descriptions and files apparently suffer from a poor localization, as well. Enemy variety is also lacking, according to the reviewer. Overall, however, the reviewer was showering the game with praise, saying it's the "new reason to own a 3DS."
As a side note, judging from one of the screenshots included in the review, there will be an Irving-styled boss fight, complete with mounted gatling gun turrets.
