I'll take the original CVX over the Darkside reiteration in every way (except for graphics, obviously). Whenever I play CVX now, I just imagine the characters look the way they did in Darkside.
The Darkside version was going strong up until the rushed finale. Only two chapters in the Antarctic?! No Chris on Rockfort? This was a disappointment, considering how well-done I found the first five chapters to be. RE2's reiteration was eight chapters long, yet CVX's (a game that was, for all intents and purposes, much longer than RE2) was only seven. I never understood that.
I thought the kill house section fit rather well, although I would have rather seen the basement of the training facility or the airport remade (lazy Capcom). The interesting thing is that the kill house could have been in the original game, but inaccessible. We have no idea how many levels the basement of the facility had; it could have been deep underground.
As for the character and plot changes, it didn't bother me much as I accepted it for what it was - a condensed (thus altered), non-canon retelling of the original plot for a "light" rail shooter. It bugs me when people accept it as canon and think that it is a "reboot" or something. I actually enjoyed a lot of the cut scenes in the first five chapters ("Mad" really captured Alfred's insanity with the creepy music and him stumbling around the palace's balcony; "Father and Son" displayed Steve's emotions after killing his father in a more composed and mature way when compared to the original; "Mistrust" showed Steve checking out Claire's ass but acting like he wasn't when she turned around, etc.) I just found a lot of them to be well done.
I couldn't stand Darkside's Alexia, though. She looked awesome, but sounded like a little girl, and yeah, killing Alfred was completely out of character. I also wasn't a fan of the lack of Rodrigo, but I found the subtlety of Wesker's "appearances" to be fitting. Even the ending was creepier, with the knife message and him just standing there staring up at Chris and Claire as they flew away. I know I'm in the minority, but I always thought that the fight between Chris and Wesker at the end of CVX was a bit too much; it put more focus on Wesker when it should have been on Alexia's insanity and insect infatuation.

I fucking loathe what they did to CV in Darkside.
Mainly they utterly destroyed the relationship Alexia and Alfred had, and since the whole theme of CV is siblings and the lengths they go to for each other. We know how much Chris is prepared to put on the line for Claire, and at the same time it's brilliantly reflected by Alfred with Alexia, in a completely different way.
Alexia has always looked down on Alfred, but still cared when she saw him die in front of her. The building music, the wondefully directed sequence where he dies just as Claire and Steve escape. It's masterfully well told.
But Darkside comes along and Alexia just kills Alfred, just like that. The great character arc just completely pissed away in one moment.
The return of Wesker was arguably at the time the most important plot point and twist the series threw at us, and Darkside again reduces all those great moments between Chris and Wesker... to absolutely nothing whatsoever. A throw away shot and a single line of dialogue.

Okay, so I shall put in my two cents.
So, first of all, why are we arguing weather the creature from re0 is the Queen Leech or Marcus? *head tilt* 'Does a rose by any other name....?' comes to mind. However you see the character, it's still an interesting boss to fight.
Hmm....perhaps I should create a 'Is the creature from re0 considered Marcus, or Queen Leech?' poll.
As for Alexia, I think that she really cared for her brother. I mean, her actions throughout the game seem to show that. And I do not see any file, anywhere throughout the game that says otherwise. There's a few where she mentions him, but they seem to be neither positive or negative. She's a scientist, a genus, I doubt she'd put her affections in her notes, because I think that would seem improper to her.
Another point I would like to add on top of the several that have already been made throughout this discussion, on the topic of Alexia going after Claire and Steve for revenge. If you notice, near the end of the game, Alexia has a chance to attack either Chris or Claire. She goes after Claire. Chris had defeated her in battle just a short time before, but she goes after Claire first. If she wasn't trying to avenge her brother, why would she go after his sister first, when Chris has already proved himself to be a bigger threat?
Now, my opinion of the games. Both have their ups and downs. Darkside has better visual, Code Veronica has more of a story line. Code Veronica has puzzles, Darkside has the kill house(and you get to hear more from Alfred, which is a giant plus in my book). Code Veronica has the dolphin laugh, Darkside has an Alexia that actually gets in more than two lines(even if I loath 'he really wasn't much fun....').
I'm happy playing either, really, but the loss of the Alexia/Alfred relationship makes me say 'Code Veronica.'

code veronica. I remember when it first came out and it looked so amazing. There was this room with a flickering candle I looked at it for like ten minutes it was the first time I had seen anything like that kind of visual affects. I really liked code veronica from the get go.
as for the darkside chronicles I don't have a wii and I don't really have much of an interest in the wii games especially since I learned they were not new stories

Anywhoo... why are we even asking these sort of questions? Its like asking what you think is better: the REmake of RE1 or RE1 as seen in Umbrella Chronicles.
I mean c'mon.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

Most of the RE timelines and RE sites that I've seen around the net have included a lot of material that originated from these games. Especially when dealing with certain characters and events. I agree that a lot of the stuff in these games is irrelevant, but some of it seems to be considered canon.

Spoiler:
These new scenarios are such tripe as well. Did we need Red Queen? Why was Barry excluded from the mansion incident and going after Umbrella in a game that focuses primarily on gun play? Did Leon need to rescue another girl that's infected? Why have these Tyrants when they've advanced beyond that with Ivan? Krauser injured his arm and was a douche bag at heart. Ada hitches a ride off the city with a grapple hook riding underneath a chopper. Rebecca and Richard do more trivial stuff together, and she witnesses him getting bitten despite speculating the wound in Resident Evil.
Either way I'm glad to see people with common sense tackle the obvious from these games.Last edited by Smiley; 10-02-2011, 04:03 AM.

I think the question arose because unlike Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside actually goes to some lengths to changing aspects of the characters in a dramatic way. You only have to look at how Annette is dealed with in Resident Evil 2 in DC.http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
