  • They finally came out and said it. GAIDEN is not canon.

From the 2002 reflection in the new "Elements" book (which contains other awesome small details such as Onimusha using the BH1.5 engine, Very Easy being added to BHCV for potential Sega-only players etc).

    「その名の通り本編とは無関係のアナザーストーリーが展開する内容である。」

"Unrelated to the main series as the name suggests."

Not really a surprise. Glad that they actually decided on whether it was or not, and to be fair it's been on the side of "not" since 4 came out since it conflicted too much with the canon story arc.

Just a shame that the only Barry game has been taken out of the series. Ah well.

        OH REALLY??????
        Wait a minute...I already know that '-'
C'mon, Barry got out with a new child and Leon got out infected, if that's really Leon.
        The game was never canon.

Yeah, that isn't the point, lol. It's just that they have finally, outright, no-bullshit said it is not canon.

Full-page scan or bust. Also, book credits. Could be just some journalist.

Unrelated to main series can describe every side game. 'Gaiden' in a title is used to infer a side story. Nice attempt at spinning what what actually said though.

                  No it can't, actually. http://i52.tinypic.com/9lamb4.jpg

What you see there is the main series. Now, outside of those games (and movie), which ones do you think are "unrelated to the main series" and still canon? Only person spinning is you.

"Gaiden" is also a word with multiple meanings. It can be "another story", "side-story", "supplemental story" etc. Can be used to refer to a canon or a non-canon story. In this case, it's a non-canon alternative universe side-story. Similar to the drama albums. In regards to the word, no other game in the series is actually referred to as a "side-story" nor are they referred to as side games in relation to the plot, they are called "extra chapters" in the main series.

All of the canonical games (and movies) are related to the main series as they are the main series. If they are outright stated not to be related to the main series, they simply aren't canon. That page actually numbers each entry (GS being the fourth official entry in the series, GS4 being eight, etc) and explains how each game fits into the main series timeline (GS4 is an extra chapter but part of the same story, GS2 is a dream which takes place in the same timeline and world as BHCV, for BHUC it says that the BH0, BH1 and BH3 sections are summaries, and that the new scenario is the missing link between GS4 and BH4 in regards to the collapse of Umbrella, etc). BHG is absent because it isn't related in general.

                      To people like KylieDog, yes.

Some people just don't want it to be true really badly, it seems. Evidently, most of them have never even played BHG.

You are posting some new as evidence, well even the dumbest person knows Gaiden isn't considered canon now. No one has ever doubted that.

It was at one time though, until RE4 changed.

Except there's no possible way of knowing that for certain. Unless Capcom came out and said we were playing as the BOW from the end of Gaiden in RE3.5.

Maybe it would have worked if the version of RE4 that became Devil May Cry never became DMC and stayed RE4, since Leon wasn't in that version at all.

Oh yes, your phantom magazine fiasco.

How many times do you need to be told that there is no Leon infection sub-plot in BHG before you'll get in line with everyone else and actually acknowledge the fact? :| There is zero indication that the two games were related in any way, and it is just as likely that Kato was referring to BH4 instead of BHG (the whole point of BHG is that Leon has no contact with anyone, yet he is able to locate an underground Chris Redfield from a fucking cruise ship? Not forgetting that his BH3 epilogue retroactively killed BHG's entire story several years before and he was only able to contact Chris because of his connections in the U.S. Government which in BHG he is not working for, but was in BH4 since it followed on from the BH3 epilogues, while BHG hopped into another universe altogether)
