Yeah, I decided a little while ago that I was done buying Capcom stuff new. I canceled both my ORC and REREV preorders a couple days ago before I learned about this and I'm just gonna wait until they're used. Am I surprised that they did this? No. Is this why I'm done supporting Capcom? Nah, this is just the icing on the cake. It's been building for a while now and I've finally just had enough.

See, it is as simple as this. I get kind of sick of people complaining about pricing, companies and such yet just buy anyway. It is as simple as not buying or if you choose to buy, just shut up about how 'unfair' it is. People seem to forget that gaming is not a right, it is a luxury. If pricing is so bad but you NEED to play a game, then just rent it. Or wait for the price to go down. Or find it cheap on a website. Or watch a Let's Play if you get desperate. But for Christsakes, don't act like you desperatly need a game on a midnight release then complain about upfront pricing.

Same goes for DLC. Yeah, it's obvious makers are withholding gameplay aspects for DLC. But again, buy it and shut up or choose not to, becuse bitching on the internet won't change their minds.

          Gaming is not a right?

It's a business pure and simple. And with any business you have to deal with a fare share of criticism and standards. What I find humorous is the irony of people complaining about complainers. You already made your case clear in a post prior. But yet you still come to this topic and say that you're sick of complaints. No disrespect, but if I'm to follow your logic then I should choose to not complain and not buy the game while you should choose to not complain and not read this topic right?

For the record, sometimes (not always) but sometimes complaints and criticism are heard and taken into account. Would an effort be made to bring the original voice actors back for the Silent Hill HD collection if fans weren't vocal about it? What about bringing the original aspect ratio to HD format for the MGS HD collection?

I'm not expecting Capcom to be like Konami, but there is good business and bad business. Far be it from me to remind you that no matter what everyone will have something they like and dislike about a product. People that don't agree with me about Revelations I later see complaining about Operation: Raccoon City for various reasons like designs, canon, intent, dialogue, etc. The irony is pretty comical.

Actually, I came here to reply to Canas, who made some sense. I also wasn't targeting anyone specifically on THIA, but things I see all over the internet. Nice try though.

And yet the point you bring up about business stands moot with the way gaming seems to be heading. Even with fans complaining about changes, there will always be more casual gamers to appeal to, which is exactly where Capcom is going. I think an example of this practice not working is with Silent Hill: Book of Memories, it appeals to no one thus far because it's such a plot heavy series to begin with. Fans don't like the straying but casual gamers won't know wtf is going on aside from 'ohh pyramid head?' Resident Evil has never been a series focused on plot. Does it have a lot of plot? Yes. Does it ever make sense/have a specific canon? Not really.

So people can complain about the gameplay, how canon the plot is, what Capcom charges even though it is unsurprising anymore. They'll still make money. The good business/bad business argument doesn't work for Capcom because they'll continue to sell no matter what.

And yet you're still here. See what I mean? Of course you replied to Canas, but your response also went on to say that you're sick of people complaining about pricing, it's a luxury, etc. Well it just so happens I'm such a person so I hope you don't mind if I make a reply.

I fail to see how my point is moot. Even if casual gamers were primary customers to appeal to, that has no bearing on raising the price in this case. And at the end of the day it's still a business which is always going to be subject to criticism.

I think it isn't the criticism that bugs me as so much as people who complain, then rush out to buy a game at full price anyway, acting like they somehow deserve it. When they bashed it and said it would suck anyway. You know people like this exist. Hell for example, when the SpoonyOne saw Transformers 2, and claimed he needed to see it 'as a critic', but the rest of us were idiots for wanting to see how bad it was ourselves. Entitlement and arrogance at its finest.

All I'm saying is, if you're going to buy it anyway, why complain now? Complain about the quality of the game and sales tag AFTER you get it. I'm skeptical about Silent Hill Downpour, but I'm not bringing out the pitchforks and price arguments until I KNOW it sucks. Or test out the waters by watching a playrun or(in the case of ps3/360/Wii) rent it first, to save $60 in the long run if it is awful. I'm just saying, we're advanced enough to have alternate methods of gaming wthout constantly feeling ripped off.

Well that's Spoony. He's got his own set of demons to work out.

But here's the thing. I'm only basing my criticism on what I know. Not what I don't know. I want this game to be good, but I have no idea if it will be.

I can only talk about things I've seen and read about. So if I'm not a fan of Rachel's design that's only based on how she appears in the trailer. If I'm upset about the price it's only because that's above the standard cost for 3DS games. I cannot say if Revelations is worth going above the standard price like some people do. I'm basing this particular complaint on the business side of games.

But will I try it? Of course I will whether I pre-order it off Amazon, buy it used, wait for a price drop or begrudgingly spend the extra ten dollars against my better judgement. Doesn't mean I'm getting it at launch or avoiding giving a cent to Capcom. I'm a Resident Evil fan. The day I stop becoming one is the day I stop watching the movies, buying the collectables or playing the games.

And it's not Resident Evil. Transformers, Star Wars, Marvel. This is more about fans of a franchise than it is about what they have to complain about. And because I'm a fan it's not like I want these games to be terrible off the bat. I wouldn't spend money on this series if I didn't like it in some way. I can still be mad at Capcom and criticize them for their decisions. But there are times where I'm happy to buy their products.

I'm seriously considering holding off on buying a 3DS and Revelations. That game is the only thing I care about on the system (I've never liked Mercenaries-type modes because of the mandatory timer), and $200+ just for one game isn't worth it, even for this RE fanatic. I think I'll wait until Revelations is inevitably ported to a home console, where it should have been developed from the get go. I don't care about gimmicky 3D, and playing such an awesome-looking game on a tiny kiddie handheld screen will only serve to annoy me and make me wonder what the game could have been. I don't care about playing this game "on the go," since it's obviously a game you need to completely immerse yourself in for the best experience. How the hell am I supposed to use high-quality headphones and find dark rooms to play in on the go?!

I apologize if I'm ranting about Revelations not being on home consoles, but it just boggles my mind that Capcom has spent all these man hours on a game that many RE fans won't even purchase due to having to buy a brand-new system (and a kiddie handheld one at that). RE is a mature-rated series; Capcom needs to keep the impressive titles like this on the adult, big-boy home consoles (I'm not excluding the Wii here) and away from pre-pubescent handhelds.

                    Just my opinion.

^ I was unaware it was a kiddie handheld. Ah well, I wasn't aware a handheld needed gory, blood-n-guts horror or action to not be kiddie.

At least calling it kiddie makes me feel young.

Ok, so clearly they are making two games worth buying and that you want, yet you don't want to give Capcom money for it. That is about the dumbest logic there is.

If you like these games support them, otherwise you're just making Capcom right in business practices, which I assume is the reason for some such boycott of new buys. Hurting yourself.

It's kiddie to me. I've never seen an adult who is serious about gaming own a handheld system and actually play it just as much as their home console(s). That said, I can enjoy handheld systems for what they are, but I'd much rather play a game like this on a home console. How many of you guys actually believe that this game will be better on the 3DS than it would on a big system? Also, how many of you care about the 3D aspect at all?

I have nothing against handhelds, as I think they are great entertainment on the go when you have a bit of time to kill. I could care less about all the Mario-type games that come out on said systems; they're fun, and playing them does not make one "kiddie." However, it's hard to deny that with a game like this, its target audience prefers home consoles.

You must not know a whole lot of adults who are serious about gaming, then.

Go to any trade show or video game-related convention, and you'll see far more people playing Nintendo handhelds than not.

There are some areas where hand helds are actually very common among adults. I'm not sure about the 3DS but the Vita almost seems tailor made to market for an older crowd. Even the games on iphones are increasing to my surprise.

As for Revelations, unless the game was designed from the ground up for a console I don't think a port to one would be much of an improvement. The second circle pad add on will already make the controls smoother, and regardless the game was designed around the 3DS features. Not just in the 3D spectrum of things but the puzzles for instance will make use of the touch pad.
