True. I think it boils down to preference, and comparing it to retail is stupid. I like the increased feeling of dread and panic. It seems like 1.5 had its own mysteries and reasons. What did leon find out that he has to report to chief irons? WHY are the policemen at the factory?
And you are right news bot, they didn't change the plot so much, they changed the scenario. 1.5 Had good, decent FMVs, close to retail 2 quality but not as long, I remember reading an interview where kamiya stated the retail FMVs were a little longer because he wanted the game to be a more cinematic one. 1.5 Should have been made into a RE, not 2, a standalone RE like survivor, not numbered.

Incoherent, not really. Flat, seemingly. Shitty, supposedly.
But I'm not really thinking that. 1.5 seems to do a good job of combining a sense of WE HAVE TO HURRY with mystery. How did the city end up like this? ADA is a researcher, she's gonna have a fucking GIANT ASS CLOSET full of skeletons!! Escpecially if leon does meet her in a CELL!

Once NB can actually announce what was learned we can piece even more of the game together.

By the way, once again, good job finally translating every text photo we know to exist, its unbelievable it's taken this long, but its actually helping with the plot, and that will help the team, since some of this is bioflames footage, unlikely on their build.

ALSO, DISCLAIMER: The game wasn't finished. So an argument over if the game is decent won't work, and we won't come to an agreement, because the plot, cutscenes, fmvs, voicing, text, EVERYTHING wasn't Finished (or in voicing/fmv case, implemented).

Unbeknownst to me until recently, Project Umbrella had already put a sizable dent in the translations quite some time ago:

Some lines are incomplete and others are of questionable accuracy, but it's mostly there.

Enigmatism415, your translations are not a day old and they are already causing quite a ruckus (a good one!).

          • Retranslated the history of the Nemesis parasite. I wasn't satisfied with the translation we had previously.

            "NE-α TYPE" PARASITE & "NEMESIS-T TYPE" (Page 081)

Due to the validation of the valuable combat data provided by the "Mansion Incident", the Bio Organic Weapon research teams of Umbrella came to recognize the fact that most B.O.W.s created using the T-Virus had only low intelligence and were presently insufficient as "products."

Even the Tyrant regarded as the ultimate, perfect organism was unable to execute orders--- Against this result, the research teams of each branch respectively sought the possibility of improving intelligence through different approaches. Having continued research for some time, one of these answers was presented by a European branch under headquarters' direct control, a unique and devilish biological remodeling process that was said to completely put the brain under control while strengthening a B.O.W.'s capabilities by allowing an organism of an entirely new species to parasitize it.

Then, the parasite "NE-α Type" was developed--- known as Nemesis. When these were transplanted into the spinal cord of a Bio Organic Weapon at a cellular level, it would absorb the internal T-Virus cells and grow, then form a unique brain near the medulla oblongata. At the same time, it erodes the central nervous system and destroys the host's frontal lobe, modifying the neural network to link its own brain with all remaining brain functions. By this means, Nemesis becomes responsible for cerebration in place of the host and completely controls the body as its own.

In addition, an interesting report was made about the test subject "Nemesis-T Type", in which these were transplanted into the latest Tyrant. In the case of the culture process of a Nemesis, it gained a sense of self and attempted to escape from the facility with others. That shows that the intelligence of the test subject drastically improved and suggests a risk that a B.O.W. could become a new intelligent organism and rebel against humanity.

At that time, can mankind survive---?

Capcom always talk about 1.5 with a sort of shame about it, like they're ashamed to have written what they had written. I still have yet to see something which I've been truly disappointed with.

They're ashamed that it wasn't up to a high standard. You're not disappointed with it because you're a fan with rose-tinted glasses and fifteen years of wonder. The developers were there with it from day one and simply didn't think their work was good enough, which is pretty respectable and worthy of praise for testicles alone.

Very true, it's two completely ends of the spectrum with two completely different views on one pice of work. When it's your day and life that goes into the job I imagine it's very easy to be disappointed with the work you've spent months trying to complete.

                  • I just got a cold chill down my spine after reading that translation, News Bot.

Did anyone else get a Terminator vibe out of that document? Yasuhisa Kawamura's writing is superb.

                      • Speaking of Nemesis, I once recall Shinji Mikami claiming that T-1000 was the influence of Nemesis design.

However, this is clearly bullshit, and Shinji Mikami doesn't know what the fuck is he talking about. He probably confused T-103 (and William Birkin) with Nemesis.

Has Kawamura ever clarified on this matter? Upon replaying BioHazard 3: Last Escape, I noticed that Nemesis shares a lot more similarities with T-800.

Nemesis was created when director Aoyama requested "a monster with an imposingly large body, able to attack the player continuously and carry weapons." Had nothing to do with any Terminator. Mikami was probably just making a comparison, if not just talking nonsense.

I disagree with you on not having anything with the Terminator, but that will have to wait for a while.

But I'm definitely sure that Nemesis was influenced by T-800. If you can find the staff member responsible for the design of Nemesis and the cutscenes (and anything involved with the scenario breakdown), ask them about it. Maybe they'll remember what I'm talking about.

                                STORY

Do you remember that one town destroyed by the "t-Virus" that Umbrella Pharmaceuticals developed?
And do you know that Umbrella is still covertly advancing the development of Bio Organic Weapons?
Yes, this incident was just waiting to happen.
                                My name is Bruce.
                                Bruce McGivern.
I'm an American intelligence agent, that is, a spy.
                                Three days ago.
The "t-Virus" was stolen from a trial drug vault of the Umbrella Development Laboratory Paris Branch.
Then, yesterday in the Atlantic Ocean.
A large cruiser on which VIPs of various nations gathered was sea-jacked.
Coincidentally, it was also a ship owned by Umbrella.
This was the sinister scheme of a guy with a considerable grudge against Umbrella.
I began activities alone to stop the plot.
Not knowing it was a trap...

                                CHARACTER

                                Bruce McGivern

                                United States Strategic Command
An agent of the Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team.
He has a strong sense of justice and may take reckless actions at the cost of his own life.
He acts with unusual guts and jumps into fire before a fire brigade arrives ignoring the warnings of his senior officers, with unusual enjoyment even in his own jurisdiction.
Although he tends to be reckless with things, his performance is that of a superb professional.

                                Fong Ling

                                Chinese Security
Her parents died soon after she was born and she was taken into the custody of the Chinese government and raised as an agent.
"If you want to help, you have no choice but to arrest him"
She was persuaded by her senior officer to pursue and arrest her older brother, a democratic activist. On the same day, her brother was executed.
She bore no grudge against her senior officer or her nation.
She merely hated the thoughts and activities that changed her brother.
Thereafter, she became an expert on hunting traitors, a child of the Chinese government. Abandoning her heart...

                                Morpheus D. Duvall

Former Umbrella Corp. Research and Development Section
He attracted subordinates and held real power, but was framed and forced out since he showed disturbing behavior against the organization.
The criminal group responsible for seizing the "t-Virus" are his subordinates, who worship Morpheus deeply.
The ship was also easily occupied by his subordinates.
However, at this time, Morpheus went to outlandish extremes and turned his trusted subordinates into victims of the "t-Virus"...

                                CREATURES

                                Zombie
They lose reason and intellectual power and are moved by a strong feeling of starvation, and wander for human flesh. Memories of life faintly remain within the brain and there are Zombies that open a glimpse into them.

                                Hunter
A so-to-speak "Elite" organism specially adjusted for auction. It has excellent offensive strength and its movement is quick in comparison with the conventional Hunter.

                                Tyrant 091
An experimental organism adjusted by a newly-developed virus (t+G-Virus).
It uses its huge arm section like a whip and attacks agilely. Its appearance is half-rotten.
An important organ is exposed from a portion in which outer skin hasn't formed.

                                Nautilus & Torpedo Kid
It spreads abnormally around the underground waterways.
It explodes very easily with even slight stimulation and its body tissue scatters a strong acidic bodily fluid. Lumps of flesh attack and the mother's body produces them.

                                Glimmer
A medium-sized creature inhabits the darkness in groups with compound eyes seen in arthropods. It has a cowardly characteristic and hides itself behind darkness, but will pounce when a chance is shown. Although it is deduced as a species of "Hunter" from its form, the details are under investigation.

                                Pluto
The subject of a response investigation that cut off its visual input from the outside world.
Through eyeball excision and injection of several strains of virus variants, its hearing developed abnormally.
It became uncontrollable from an abnormal growth of muscle fibers and disposal was planned, but it killed five watchmen and escaped.

                                Queen & Halberd
Ecology similar to ants and bee-like group behavior have been confirmed.
Tens of thousands of "guards" are brought to life and produced from the abdomen of the huge mother's body.

                                Morpheus 1st Form
There is a theory that fusing the G-Virus and its anti-body the t-Virus at the gene level will give electrical characteristics. Seeing the progress of test agent 091 (Tyrant 091), although there were still many imperfect portions, with the newly generated test agent 092, the occurrence of a high-voltage current, the original target, was finally acknowledged.
Subjects injected with this form an electromagnetic barrier and are predicted to repel all physical impacts.

                                Morpheus 2nd Form
Physical destruction was induced at a gene level with the Charged Particle Rifle, and the first form went out of control.
There is only the resentment deeply inscribed in Morpheus' heart as it moves its large skeleton (body).
