Originally posted by GuardhouseMusic View Post3. Resident Evil 5. Shameful for such a big release in the series canon. Instead of polishing the gameplay of RE4 to such a level that RE2 did for the first one, we get a diluted version with forced co-op and arbitrarily changed around features. The game takes itself so damn seriously, making the plot and dialogue look even worse than the older games, a huge feat. If I don't hear the word "partner" repeatedly in another mainline RE title, I know another useless character was done away with, and good riddance

Hrm..
1) Resident Evil 5
2) Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
3) Resident Evil: Gaiden
RE5 blew balls. I loved all the other games really. Both Outbreak games are great and I loved the Survivor games quite a bit. I thought RE0 was great, but short.
The only "true" Resident Evil game to me is the first one for PS1. RE2 refined it's gameplay but lsot all of it's horror and tension. Plus nothing was really added to the main story at all. As much as I like RE2 it just doesn't seem to fit into the RE mold. It dropped all the suspense and atmosphere IMO. RE1 is still my go to game, and remake is a close second. It nails the atmosphere and recreates the first game nearly perfectly. It's much slower paced than RE2, more limited ammo. I like remake a lot but RE1 is still the perfect experience to me. As much as the other game improved on the gameplay mechanics, RE1 was the most suspenseful and tense feeling.

That's the difference.

The game is just to shoot anything you find. It's like SOCOM + Call of Duty + Resident Evil.
There's a piece of review that stats Nemesis will have mal-functions. Is he a robot or something?
I think yes, since he's copied from the movie.
There's also a scenario of the game where a broken taxi and some police cars can be found.
This was obviously taken from the first movie ending.
And worst: Capcom-Unity's FAQ states that some parts of the game will become canon.Last edited by Grem; 01-17-2012, 07:34 AM.

I'm only going to use games that I've actually played in the series...
THE ABSOLUTE WORST:
This title has definitely got to be Resident Evil: Outbreak; never have I played such a horrible game in the series. I hate nearly everything about it from the dumb, stoic characters to the extremely poor AI (Yes, back then not all of us had access to online play and had to settle with playing with ourselves. Any good game with online capabilities can carry itself both on AND offline. Outbreak does not do this in the least). The only scenario that I didn't so much mind was "Decisions, Decisions" and I think this was namely because it was the only one where something interesting happened. I liked collecting the samples for Daylight, and the Thanatos Tyrant was decent.
THE SLIGHTLY HORRIBLE:
For the most part, I liked the concept of Dead Aim, but like many others, my real complaint lies with how short the game is. The average player can complete it in one to two hours, and I think that is definitely WAY too short for any game (unless it's some cheap thing you download from the PSN). I wasn't too wild over the B.O.W.'s in this one either; the stretchy Tyrant was fairly stupid (and before anyone points out the Bandersnatches, I believe those are highly stupid as well), and a virus that changes the sex of the individual? Seriously? It was fairly interesting to see another female Tyrantoid, but Morpheus was still a dude when you boil it down. It is also highly logical to mutate into high heels; that happens all the time.
THE MEDIOCRE:
I prefer Resident Evil 5 to Resident Evil 4 simply because I like the characters that Resident Evil 5 centers around. I have never been a Leon fan, and Resident Evil 2 has never been one of my favorite games primarily for this reason. The games are roughly the same level for me; it is nearly all action-based and the controls are very similar in style. I enjoy both games, but Resident Evil 4 is just missing something to me. Plus, I don't like how much the story jumps around in some parts (though I admit Resident Evil 5 does this as well).
Now, I'm sure if I had actually ever played Gaiden or Survivor, my list would probably be modified (though Outbreak would be the worst; I really cannot fathom anything that surpasses the horror of that game). I'm impressed to see so much CODE: Veronica hatred, but then again, I know it is the pivotal point in the series where a lot of individuals see the series taking a turn at action.
To each his own!sigpic

Resident evil 4 isn't one of my favorites either, although the the mini-games are all great fun and i'll always play those. The problem I have with the main game is that it seems to be too much in love with itself to just let some things go for the better (i'll try to explain). For example, when a movie is shot, many good or even great scenes are cut because they just don't mesh well in the end with the whole product. I feel RE4 is the same way. The settings are cool and all but too many sections of the game drag on for way too long.
Heck, I feel the game could've been edited a ton better, that a lot of areas should have been removed completely and the game would've ended up much more enjoyable. The game honestly doesn't feel finished to me in that regard. The pacing is all effed up. By the time I reached the end of the game, I haven't dared to touch it again. It was such an exhausting experience and I don't understand why so many people can love this game. It needed more of those creepy Regenerator moments and a lot less of Salazar's constant squealing and cackling over the radio. Ashley is just as annoying with her always screaming for Leon.
I mean most of the time, it seems like Capcom had two different games going on at the same time amd it doesn't mesh well together. The tone jumps all over the place. Regenerators and the big fish thing scared the crap out of me. Then there's Ashley and Salazar, which turn the game into cartoon mode. In comparison, I feel RE5 (although still not perfect by any means) trimmed all that fat away and is definatly the better of the two.
Also, both Survivor and even Gaiden are better than those dreadful Outbreak titles, I feel. Survivor is actually one of my favorites.Last edited by Deus Flux; 01-17-2012, 02:56 PM.sigpic

I think Dead Aim is all kinds of awesome - and an untold treasure of the series.
But my three are:
Zero - Just a horrible game, and the game I attribute the causing the end of the classic style of Resi. Nothing good is achieved in this title, from the cheating monsters who can now change direction midcharge, to the hunters that can hit you death offering no break. To the stupidity of such like the AI character, who stands aimlessly doing nothing if you leave them to. To the rampant fuck awfulness of the magic elevator, to the cheese of Marcus (the series is riddled with cheese I know - but Marcus - oh man).
Survivor 2: CODE: Veronica - Worked in the arcades where it was actually great fun - but the home port - with it's appauling loading times and such - not so much.
Darkside Chronicles - Great, much improved gameplay and visuals, even a really groovy South American scenario with Leon and Krauser. But the retellings of Resident Evil 2 and CODE: Veronica I absolutely loathe. Seeing all the great themes and great moments from CODE: Veronica absolutely pissed on and ignored like they did with the fucking game irks me more than I could ever tell. I played Darkside through to completion the first week it came out - and i've NEVER touched it since.http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Anyone who listed both Survivor 2 Code Veronica and Survivor in the same list and proceeded to list Survivor as WORSE than Survivor 2 Code Veronica clearly has not played the later, especially the PS2 port. The original PlayStation Survivor is limited by it's console and yet it still controls better and has a story which you cannot ever say about Survivor 2, which is the worst game the majority of people here including me have played in the franchise by far.

survivor works well enough with the gun con (so PAL + JP players). story and voice is horrible though. I have to disagree with whoever said GS2 works in the arcade - it's still horrible in arcades.
giving Dead Aim more love. It's a great game. Really liked DSC too. Fixed a lot of UC's problems, which i found to be a horrible unplayable mess.
Really liked Outbreak 1+2 when they came out. Haven't played either in years though. I always thought they were way too ambitious. The loading times and primitive AI put me off ever playing again.sigpic

I don't know why all the hate for both Survivor games but I enjoy them quite a bit. IMO Survivor has one of the more believable stories in the line up. Well that may be stretching it but the amnesia thing works well in this game. I found that although Survivor can be beat in under 40 minutes that it still has enjoyable experience. Nothing like an RE game but a rather nice hybrid between shooter and exploration with some horror elements.
As for Survivor 2 it is a totally different experience and game from the first Survivor. It's a lot more action packed and a corridor crawling shooter than any other RE game. You go from room to room blasting enemies, picking up weapons and ammo, then getting a key and progressing. I really liked the idea I will say it was not done properly at all. The game has issues no doubt but it's a fun game, especially Dungeon Mode.Last edited by Zombie_X; 01-17-2012, 07:24 PM.

Interestingly with this thread, most of you thought that RE5 was the worst in the main series and Code Veronica doesn't get much love either. This is funny because both games are the most important for the RE mythology with Wesker's return and all the secrets around the progenitor and Spencer's plan.
