In RE5 you only get 150 enemies, after that game ends. Score was based on combo and then a massive bonus from time remaining when all enemies dead, since melee kills gave a time bonus it reduced the mode down into constant melee kills for big scores.

In RE4 you keep fighting until time ends, no melee kill time bonus. While melee kills in RE4 did give you good points, other means gave you equally or better points. It gave more freedom in the playstyle, an effecient and quick killer could do as well as someone setting up melees for bonus points.

RE4s system is better because as RE5 proved, some characters ended up being complete crap for the mode with no hope for high scores due to poor weapons and weak/slow to kill melee attacks. Mercs 3D proved it again, even though weapons sets could be shared between any character, some characters just had faster/more lethal melees.

I never noticed there's a limit in RE5, I guess I suck so much at it I didn't kill enough enemies.

        • Is that a mutated Ustanak, or did they just make the Ustanak look like a gimp?

          • Everyone looks so awkward in this photo. I love it.

            • I discovered something pretty awesome today while fighting Ustanak, though it may already be known.

I had done Jake's charged up palm strike so he was running towards Ustanak. Ustanak launched his claw hand at me, and I interrupted the run to do a dive roll to the side, but then I was able to get up from the dive roll and continue the charged sprint towards Ustanak as if I had never interrupted it. It was all one swift motion, which I thought was pretty slick.

              • So who's gonna bring the popcorn... You're going to watch lots of cutscenes.

                4 hours!

                • The cutscenes will play out just like the other games, it's over 4 hours because it has 4 campaigns.

This is fine, as long as the game is more about actual gameplay than cinematic cutscenes. I don't want to watch a movie.

I agree. I never liked the bonuses for melee kills, as it made the games feel even less like RE.
                    Mass production? Ridiculous!

                    • I booted RE4 Mercenaries Mode up today with the intentions of actually completing it after my success at completing RE5 merc mode, and I have to agree with Dracarys, it's far superior to RE5's version.

I came up with two wild guesses as to who Ustanak actually is. *Conspiracy Theorist face* It's either Luis Sera (Hair turned blonde like Jill's... I call it BOW blonde) or, as others have guessed before, Albert Wesker fresh from the Volcano

There's a lot of continuous running+melee in the game. With Chris for example, I was roadie running, jumped over something, climbed over a railing, ran into a J'avo, picked him up, bodyslammed him into the ground and instantly rolled forward to aim my gun at the J'avo in front of me.

I was amazed at the no interruptions during the whole thing, all of it seemed cinematic but was live gameplay.

                        • I think that was what they wanted to go with for these new gameplay options, things characters have done in games and movies for years but now we can actually do them in real time. Was one of the things that really impressed me by this new gameplay system.

                          • I don't think Ustanak is any previous character. Remember when RE3 came out and everyone had all those wild theories about who Nemesis was? The funniest was Rebecca. Turns out it was no one.

                            • The next Resident Evil game will have 255 minutes of cut-scenes, according to a filing by the British Board of Film Classification.

Some interesting news on the RE6 cut scenes, turns out that there are over 4 hours of them.

                              • I know Chris's scenario is supposed to be an action one, but man this is creppy and scary as hell.

I get The Thing vibe from it.
