    If you can get past the fact that RE4 is actually a Resident Evil game, it is a great game. No one is saying that the game is not to blame for RE's changes, but why do you see so many people loving 4 and disliking 5? It's as if RE5 took all the good elements from RE4 and threw them out the window, and RE6 seems to be more along the lines of 5 than 4.

    I don't care too much if the story in a game sucks (e.g. RE4). I play games for how fun the gameplay is. Games aren't movies. RE4 was a blast; RE5 was a bore. It was more fun in co-op, but a game should never be more fun in co-op; there should always be a balance for the single player. At least Capcom got rid of you having to protect the AI like RE5, but it sucks to know that if your character gets grounded in single-player, the AI has to come to pick you back up before a killing blow is delivered (or time runs out).

      Those spinning blades provide an awesome use of the sliding/shooting on back mechanic. Also, looks like melee kills still provide +5 seconds to the timer and reversal kills will give +10 seconds.

      And, shit, with this in mind, won't Jake be the most powerful Mercs character by default? The mobility and options he has with his hand-to-hand stuff really eclipses the other characters.

          The easy way to balance it out is give him gimped weapons. All the melee power in the world won't work well against certain enemies that require a powerful shotgun or AR... give Jake a simple handgun and maybe a knife or stun rod and it makes him vulnerable when going against powerful enemies that require you to keep your distance.

            He won't be any more overpowered than HUNK or Wesker. His melee moves are generally a lot weaker.

                  I don't really mean compared to Mercs in 4 and 5, but when you're choosing who to play as in RE6 Mercs, Jake just seems too obvious since he has the most powerful/versatile/mobile hand-to-hand capabilities by far, and melee kills are extremely important.

                    But they aren't really all that good. Certainly not the kind of one hit kill combo racking Mercenaries typically has. There's nothing wrong with it.

                      I just don't see that being the case. Just like 4&5, no matter how powerful one character is over another, there are always stages in which those powerful characters are at a disadvantage. I think people are overestimating how effective melee is going to be, I mean all we've seen (and in some cases, played) were selected for the widest range of gameplay, shooting and melee equally. I think that by the time we get the final product, Jake won't be nearly as godly as he seems at the moment.

                      On an alternate note: When watching the videos where Leon is surrounded by 20+ enemies and it's all hectic, does anyone else get the same vibe you get from the early RE5 trailers?

                        The mercenaries video has hit Youtube now.

                        You know I am starting to warm to this game a little. Thats because of one video I watched. That was the video of Chris and his team fighting the snake that was a great video and had tons of tension, I will be honest I didnt expect any tension and build up apart from Leons opening act nevermind in Chris's. So yay finally getting my hype back about this game. Dont want to much though cause I want to play this with low expectations then I can be shocked and awed if its anything worth a damn.

                              I was completely surprised by their appearance, and they are very well-designed. All of the enemy designs in this game are great so far, massive improvement from some of the garbage in BH4 and (especially) BH5. They somehow successfully made the El Gigante a reasonable enemy in the BIO universe. I just hope all the other enemies are as good.
