  • Okay so as someone who usually defends the crap out of RE6 I do have my complaints.

Graphics: Yes, the visuals are not up to scratch with RE5, the textures in areas are terribly low resolution and some shaders such as the rain fall on surfaces look way over done, even toning down the opacity of the rain fall itself would have helped improve it, characters are great but then compare those to downright ugly textured on railings of the train car it's just horrible looking. As News Bot said the lighting is nice though.

Chris's scenario: China is really nice, not only is it a naturally nice environment but the lighting and dark atmosphere keep the tone of horror even with bullets flying. Going down a Chinese street while taking on the spider Ja vo sounds mighty fine.

Edonia with Chris.......it just does not do it for me, it's not even the full daylight, it's the missed opportunity. Remember on the bridge in RE5 the bus coming towards the player? that was quite intense, maybe not "horror" but it was a nice intense moment. In Edonia for Chris it is full on basic warfare with nothing to really catch the eye.

Jake and Sherry: I really like it so far, we have a nemesis that will not stop and even though they are both in Edonia their situation is more escape then fighting, that feeling of needing to get out is really good.

Their snow sections bring a new type of challenge, you are fighting the weather and not just the enemies that are cloaked in the snow storm.

    • The graphics are subpar to RE5's, both in cutscenes and the gameplay. Not as glossy, textured or detailed. You could see the skin textures, dust and sweat on Chris' face and arms in RE5 if you wanted to. What I hate the most is the NPCs models in Leon's scenario, they look like they're literally made out of plastic.

It just doesn't have the realistic type of graphics RE5 aimed for.

But still, game looks amazing and better than most titles out there.

Just one from 1Up about Leon and Helena's first two chapters:

                  • Seems rather mixed, Leon's beginning is not impressing anyone by the sounds of things, but I disagree with his thoughts about the tutorial, it's a tutorial after all and probably the most impressive tutorial I have seen in a video game. Resident Evil 6 does have many new mechanics to learn.

                    • It's the setpieces that is riddling Leon's campaign. Apparently his campaign has the most setpieces, and a lot of parts in the game force you to only "walk" and not be able to shoot.

                      • That metro.com preview has me worried, Leon's scenario seems to be turning into a disaster.

Forcing the players to only walk or not have the option to shoot is a huge HUGE no no.

                        • The first time it's fine, but on subsequent playthroughs the setpieces/forced sections will be very irritating. Like his E3 demo, the whole university opening was only playable once without having to sigh and push the analog stick forward with a face on like you haven't slept in a week.

Still, keeping positive hopes so it doesn't affect anything too drastically, and that they can pull it off well.

Chris' campaign, on the other hand, I don't even need to think about. I knew it would be awesome, and every video and preview to date consistently confirms it. Jake's looks eh-eh so far.

                          • Yea I completely agree, who would even want to play that section of Leon's E3 demo twice? heck who would even want to play it once after playing or seeing the demo on youtube?

I'm not sure how Capcom thought it would. Forcing the player to crawl along at a snail's pace while enduring tons of cinematics that must actually be played through is boring enough the first time, yet alone those after it. I'm tired of so many recent games that use the cinematic "playing through a movie" approach. Games aren't movies! They're supposed to be something more...

Anyway, most of the other stuff looks great. Chris's campaign looks a little better from what I've seen, although I'm not liking all the high-speed vehicle crap I'm seeing in Jake's. There's going to be at least five vehicle sequences in the game, which is five too many if you ask me. Did anyone actually like those rail shooter parts in RE5 and Revelations? I sure didn't. It completely detracted from the Resident Evil feel.
                              Mass production? Ridiculous!

                              • That article confirms alot of what I thought, but it raises a question: what weak voice acting? If there's one thing I haven't had to complain about since at least RE4, it's the voice acting. Dialogue has always been hit-and-miss, but that's been the nature of the series for years. And I don't know what games they're playing, but there certainly isn't any out there with such tremendous VA that RE6's would appear weak.

Seems off the mark to me.
