If Chris is infected then they stole the original plot of Revelations, the original trailer strongly hints that Chris is going to die with his 'I always make it through, not this time' comment.
How can they steal something they wrote themselves? Making use of previously unused concepts is extremely common in the series. I don't think the teaser trailer for Revelations actually implied he was infected, his "I always make it through, not this time" comment was referring to the fact that he apparently screwed up and got captured.

Er not really as Revelations was always going to be a prequel to RE5.

Not really, I think Revelations was always going to be before RE5, even if the first trailer was entirely scrapped.
As long as it's done well, and not a silly or pointless death, I think it's a good thing. As it stands no one really believe a main character can die - Capcom won't even kill of secondary characters we'll never see again.
I've be devestated if Chris was killed. My favourite character in anything ever, and the perfect example of someone who's defies the odds time and again.
After Resident Evil 5 - finally being re-united with Jill, and killing Wesker it honestly felt like he'd come full circle, his main missions completed. I'd of been happy if he'd never be seen again, because I know he's accomplished what he set out to do, coming back just to kill him off? Yeah - i'd be a bit pissed with it to be honest.
Hmm...Chris going down in a blaze of glory, saving the world? I might be able to live with that. As long after the end credits, Leon, Jill and Claire salute Chris's grave.

He's my favorite too, but like I said, if he were to sacrifice himself to save the lives of others...it'd be very Chris-like.
If it's a suitably awesome and noble death, then it would be good. I'm talking Aliens 3 swan dive death level awesome. Chris, infected and started to mutate, takes himself and some gribbly beast out of the picture by hurling them both off a cliff into a volcano that erupts and shoots them into space? Awesome.
My concern is Capcom usually under performs. It's more likely to be a 'shocking' death where a zombie leaps through the window and bites out his throat, or a, 'I'm gonna stand here and slow the big bad beast down by hurling myself into it's jaws and forcing it to chew and walk for a minute' kinda death.
The best and most suiting way for Chris to die would be through a gameplay sequence, where you play as him fighting off a swarm of enemies while covering the escape of his friends, but the enemies never stop coming and they don't drop supplies. So you just last as long as possible until Chris eventually dies. It would be like the ending gameplay bit from a certain Xbox 360 exclusive FPS some of you may have played, and the concept was pulled up wonderfully in that game. However, I don't want something like this done until Claire is involved as a main character again. It would be awesome to have Chris's last stand as a way to save his sister.
