I agree with that wholly. Something about the level of detail in that game is amazing- I've played through that game so many times I'm afraid to even guess at how many times, and it seems like I would find something new about it every time. Whether it be something in the environment, or the way enemies confront you (Krauser always pulled something new on me, EVERY TIME. O_O), or even hidden items that seem to appear out of thin air.

One of my most notable examples in the item department is the Shotgun Ammo box on the rafters of the first Garrador (in the prison cell), I never knew it was there until my most recent playthrough a few months ago. That sounds paltry, but it just keeps bringing you back in hopes of finding more. There is some form of video game witchcraft going on with RE4, and it is indeed perverted... but I love it. XD

I predict RE6 will be a great game for the series but I also believe Critics will bash the utter shit out of it, and most likely for the wrong reasons.
I understand that RE6 won't be making a dramatic impact as far as innovation and gameplay style like RE4 did, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't meet or surpass RE4 standards by being greater that the sum of its parts.

As for critics, they'll bash anything unless they're getting paid to say otherwise.

I don't know that I'll be able to do that, as I said before, RE4 will be my measuring stick for RE6. I would be exceedingly happy if RE6 measured only 50%~70% of RE4 levels of greatness. I predict that it will be better than RE5, because RE5 only reaches about a 40% on my RE4 scale, so I'm pretty confident in my estimations.... but I would love to be surprised. XD

I have to agree, RE6 will not have that 'je ne sais quoi' that RE4 was endowed with, as that is the of nature greatness; it is rarely repeated. As for the story being "better", I'm still on the fence in that regard. Though the plot in RE4 was barren in comparison to RE6, it matched the sparse, depressing environment so well that it made the story extremely moving.

This is the one thing that American developers have yet to master; a certain economy of force when it comes to staging and telling a story. The Japanese are masters at making stories deep and moving with very little material, simply because they don't need it. Yes, the story in RE6 is crafted by Japanese writers as well, but I just don't think that they'll be adding in as many little details this time around simply because they have so much material to sculpt into a plot this time.

Its a given that RE6 will have 10x the story content that RE4, but the way RE4 told you the story of that little village without words, without dozens of extraneous characters, will always be more moving than being given most of the answers by way of dialog as RE6 probably will.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I assume you're referring to the fact that Leon was sent there to recover the President's daughter under orders from the Government and that's what the whole plot was about. If this is what you mean, you're pretty much right. Even RE5 started out as an official mission but became a personal quest a third of the way through.

      • Am I the only one feeling a difference in the stamina meter and its rate of depletion in the new Public demo, as opposed to the DD demo?

In the DD demo I felt like I could melee the entire way through all 3 demos. However, in the Public demo it seems the meter depletes more quickly. I feel like they balanced it out a bit. Not only does it drain more quickly but it seems like it takes longer to recover once you do, leaving you vulnerable for a longer period of time.

        • Ignoring genre switch complaints, I don't know why RE4 gets praised so much. The game balance was horrible, Leon quickly became a walking arsenal with enough health and ammo that it may as well been infinite. Anyone even half competent should have breezed through that game. I've always considered the best games ones that actually challenge the player in addition to being well designed etc etc.

Hoping RE6 hardest difficulty offers something akin to RE5 on Professional. Hopefully cannot turn on infinite ammo until it gets beat once on that difficulty also, just so the people who only play RE5 Pro with infinite ammo on the best weapons farmed and upgraded on easy difficulties cannot underplay the challenge it offers.

          • RE6 has already surpassed 4 for me a while ago, the game simply looks massive and it doesn't seem to drag like RE4 did. The pacing in 4 was all over the place, especially when you enter the castle.
The story is obviously better, at least it has something to do with the series unlike 4. And Leon's personality is much more believable this time, I hated his attitude in 4 and it surely didn't fit at all.
Oh and Ashley, she could ruin the game on her own for sure. If she ever comes back in a game I hope she turns into a zombie so I can shoot her to death.
The only thing 6 is missing for me is Claire, they totally dropped the ball there. I don't care how but she should've showed up in the story. There's still hope for Mercs I guess.

            • I would put money on it that we will get Claire and Jill for Merc's as DLC, the demand for it is huge.

Same here for me and my buddies, so I guess that's the case. And all for the better, I must say, because the stamina meter was just useless in the DD demo.

Not really, it's a screaming minority.

If TGS is already underway I'm surprised we have not seen a new trailer yet.

                    • There is no new trailer. It's just the E3 trailer with Japanese subtitles.

Unless you count the 30-second tv commercial.

At video length 3:17! This is the censored Japanese version, which means decapitations are censored due to Japan ratings. But I can bet the U.S. version for this will be uncensored, just like the U.S. version of RE4!

Strange how you say that the game was poorly designed and the difficulty was a joke when, in fact, the two things RE4 had going for it WAS the design and the difficulty on professional level. RE4 was a brilliant game, but many RE fans felt it didn't fit into the mold they expected and in feeling that way, they instantly hated it.

When I first saw the new design for Ada, I was a bit disappointed. I have to say, though... After seeing a lot of gameplay I think this one might be better than the RE4 version.

I can't wait to see the direct-feed version, I think the Gamescon trailer is the best out of them all.
