There's nothing wrong with that, per se. It just makes Jake almost implausibly young. I get that he's that a "rough life" and all but come on.

Well depending on the life Jake grew up in he might only be 20 but has the backbone, experience and balls even at a young age.

Capcom essentially said several months ago that "Jake was created to give the new generation of RE fans someone to relate to." Why wouldn't he be young? I'll agree that he looks closer to Sherry's age (27), and his cynicism is confusing considering his young age. But nevertheless, I doubt that is a mistranslation.
