  • Who can say really?
It'd be more of a plus in contrast to what the last few guys in charge of 5 and 6 did.

    • I'm not here fir Mikami. Not specially after going all "reductive" on RE5. Unprofessional asshole tbh

Capcom doesn't have what it takes to keep the series special anymore, the story choices they keep making prove that.

The could do an amazing remake of the original game, even better than the 2004 GC game if they started over and went back to the series roots.

There is still an incredible amount of potential with this setting and a chance to add more depth to the series with a clean slate, rather than the continuous mediocre sequels that just dont seem to stop .
No. Just No. If you want something else, play something else. Capcom has spent WAY too much time developing this universe just to flush it down the toilet. I'd find that MUCH more disrespectful than changing the style of gameplay to something more action packed. If the series is dead to you move on to something fresh.

Also, I pre-ordered RE6 by itself and I got the Anthology...is this normal, or am I just special =]

In resume: they just said give a shit for what we want and what we think for series, they still arrogant and egocentric for do not accept a fact: fans (in this case, mom, us) knows better.
this kobayashi is a master. he is telling us how being parents looks like. because we can have 1000 crappy RE games, and i will play them all and still love the series.

          • I give more of a fuck about Kobayashi than I do for Mikami. That said, he's right, but that doesn't excuse some of the game's flaws and lazier designs. It's like eating a packet of delicious Skittles only to realize there are a few bastard sour ones mixed in. Some happen to like the sour ones too.

            • After playing games like Shadows of the Damned and Vanquish, I honestly really do not want Mikami back. Especially after the bullshit he spouted about 5. I hated both of those games and it's clear that guy isn't what fans claim him to be. Well, least not anymore. He was great for RE1 but I think the guy's time has come and past if you know what I mean. I may be wrong though, we'll see how Zwei does, but I have little hope.

              • Neither of those games are as bad as RE6, though. And Mikami is not responsible for creating the equivalent of Resident Evil Survivor for the mainline series (again, RE6).

A gross and banal oversimplification. That loop may not have been at the center at all.

As for RE6; it's doing exactly the same as Capcom's been doing with a lot of other games lately (sadly without the same acceptance other devs and titles have managed to achieve with similar approaches to messing with the trends/genres). This basically boils down to the expecations thing, as you mentioned. People want to be able to easily categorize things. If they can't; they're confused. They don't have time to learn and they don't want to learn. Would you like to have to retake your driving lessons every time you wanted to use a new/different car?
It's not just about the gameplay. Even though now that RE has finally entered the action genre, it's gameplay plainly sucks compared to it's competitors. A few titles back, you could rationalize that certain limitations or issues are there in order to make the game play in a specific way. But with RE6 the changes were enough to be without any doubt too similar to certain games, making it easy to compare. You make it as if RE6 is a difficult game to play. And that people are at fault for the games lacking.
Subject of interest on the front of people and their inability to face challenges would be the recent dev talk about the focus testing of Dishonored. People literally just putting down the controller 'cause the game didn't hold their hands and tell 'em what to do and people not doing specific things 'cause someone in the game told them not to. Sheep.
Whether or not they are sheep, what you've described above is a perfect example of developers who have no clue who they are making their games to. You can have complex tasks and goals, without making the game appear to "hold your hand", using subtle elements to guide you if necessary. If they aren't able to motivate the player to think, then they've fucked up. Motivation stems from interest and knowledge, so they've either made a boring game (my guess), or they've made the "right" path so hidden, that the average gamer can't find it.

Also, another thing to consider, you can't expect people to invest time into a game which requires some effort in a focus testing...

As for reviews... Ignoring both the extremes- mass-reviewing machine that is the traditional videogame review mag and the clueless niche/fringe type who plays a round a week, I go to check out what people think. With so many games played, so many forum years spent, one would think that the bullshit detector can easily distinguish between what's right or wrong, what's hype and what's gems, right? And true indeed.

                  • mikami is not the main developer behind RE0 right? that game is fantastic, so we dont need him to have a good game.
about zwei, hes using his RE fame to say hes making the MIKAMI'S NEW SURVIVAL HORROR.

From what I've played of RE6 so far, I have to heavily disagree with you there. RE6 is leagues better of both games. Least RE6 actually has enemy variety and a reason to keep playing the game, unlike Vanquish, and doesn't have it's vocabulary consist of almost nothing but dick jokes.

                      • RE6 leagues better than Vanquish? That game has an excellent gameplay and is never boring. Of course enemies are recycled, but the game is so full of qualities and good action that I can easily forgive that.

That game is the DEFINITION of boring in my opinion. I can't stand how much praise this game gets. Sure, it's exciting... For like the first two missions. The problem is the game has practically the same enemies throughout the entire campaign right from the first level (just later on they have more armor/one or two bosses but you still fight them the same way), the actions such as sliding and bullet time is fun at first until you realize that's the whole game. The game is extremely repetitive (and if people are complaining that RE6 is just run from room A to B, kill all enemies, rinse and repeat, then they obviously haven't played Vanquish) and has nothing that keeps it fresh and interesting the whole way through. You can find all the weapons within the first level of the game, leaving nothing for you to acquire as the game goes on (unless you count upgrades but besides them practically not doing much except giving you just more ammo, I see no point), the story is horrendous and the main character is completely unlikable as well. The graphics are pretty though and the explosions are nice, I'll give it that, but that's not what makes a good game. I own the game and I absolutely dread having it on my shelf. I'd rather play any other TPS I have over it honestly. It's a shame, I was quite looking forward to it back when it originally came out too.

I still stick by my opinion that Mikami had a great run but now it's coming to a close. Like I said before, I'd LOVE to be pleasantly surprised by Zwei but I'm not believing anything until I see it.

I think you better finish RE6 in its entirety. The game has too many highs and lows. So its not wise to judge the whole game until you've experienced the whole package. IMO, Ada's campaign is great. But the rest blow chunks.

Anywhoo...your opinion of SotD and Vanquish and how it compares to RE6 is never going to go mainstream any time soon. I don't think. Still, I respect it as a valid opinion. No game will be universally accepted or hated. Opinions etc. etc.

Enemy variety? Well that's meaningless when the feedback you get from shooting them is craptacular. It's like with the human sponges in ORC. Yeah, I tend to focus on gameplay rather than eye-candy. So there you go.

Anyway, my point was that it wasn't Mikami who managed to make a worse mainline RE game than RE5, with 6.

                            • Well, gotta admit, I'm feeling pretty damned smug about my whole 'I'm not paying you money, Capcom' policy having kept me away from this so far. Let me see if I've got this straight...

                              - Plot is meh, and never really does anything with the whole global outbreak stuff. Mostly just Retcons some new guy into the Raccoon City events.
                              - Jake's much heralded super awesome fighting stuff is 1) awkward and 2) not actually required?
                              - Minimal exploration?
                              - Any puzzles?
                              - Leon and Ada campaigns are the best?
                              - All told, RE5...but longer.

Have I got that about right?

                              • Essentially.
Localization is also messier than usual and overall, the entire game is forgettable. At least Sadler was somewhat funny. Simon is a poor mixture of Morgan and spencer.
