Anyway, my point was that it wasn't Mikami who managed to make a worse mainline RE game than RE5, with 6.
I'm enjoying the game so far however. We'll see how long until that changes and if it changes. I heard Jake's campaign and the final chapter for Leon are horrendous, so we'll see.

@Spera01 - I was trying to point out ORC's human enemies who are bullet sponges. In RE6 you get a lot of that, sorta like in Revelations where enemies don't react right away when you shoot at them. It was tolerable in Rev (which didn't have much variety in terms of weapons compared to 6) but in a shooter like RE6 its very annoying.
Well I hope you enjoy the game. Leon's and Ada's campaign are the best, though. The other two are what is mostly giving this game bad scores. Its not a bad game. Some reviewers did go over the top with their scores. But there is no doubt that it's an uninspired and disappointing game. After RE5, maybe we should've kept our expectations low.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

Brief question about a part in Jake's campaign:
Spoiler:
When you're collecting the missing data in the snowstorm, am I the only one who couldn't see shit? Obviously, your vision was supposed to be obscured and it was meant to be a "challenge," but I literally couldn't see anything. ANYTHING, I tell you. I could barely even make out the small map with the red dots, which indicated the locations. I wandered around, aimlessly, for about an hour, before actually collecting all three. I adjusted the brightness on the game and my TV, and I messed with a bunch of other configurations, too, and it was just a big white, gray, shit-filled mess.
I'm eager to replay all the campaigns in their proper, suggested order, but that part, man... It might become the bane of my existence.

Yes the whole point of that section was exactly what it was, a snow storm.
As for the recent Capcom response, fans would never have wanted these new game mechanics but RE4 did more then any fan of the series could have imagined.
Theres a reason fans aren't actual game developers in most cases.Last edited by shanemurphy; 10-03-2012, 07:17 PM.

Just played through Chapter 1 of Chris' scenario, this is quite literally the most tedious and poorly designed POS section of a game I've ever played. Chapter 2 is even worse, having one AI following you around is bad enough, but having four AI all following you around, getting in your way, bullets coming from all directions, surrounded by both friendly and enemy fire... I don't even think this is a good example of a 3rd person shooter. I've just been in a room in the Ace of Spades running round in circles trying to find a safe spot to hide, but can't find one, the AI is so out of control and scrambling all over the place even the cover machnic can't help me because of poor stage design. Maybe I just suck at this type of game, maybe I just need more time, but right now this just isn't doing it for me at all (not that I expected it to, but I at least thought it would live up to some sort of standard).
Who is the composer for this game? Don't even get me started on the music.

My mistake though, was giving you too much credit. Despite what you had said about trying to understand the opinions that went against yours, you only said that for dramatic effect. You didn't really mean it. Amiright?
But hey, enjoy your game in any way you wish. Don't let those that you branded as haters stop you from doing that. Right? Its your money and time. Go at it my friend. Hell, I love me some Killer 7. When it first came out it also got mixed reviews. Still love the game.
Anyway moving to matters more on topic, director Kobayashi explained why RE6 is an action game and why Survival Horror is just too damn niche these days. This sure explains a lot:
Kobayashi : "There's a lot of niche horror out there that really core fans want. You can do a B-movie or a C-movie type of horror, but that would only appeal to a limited audience.
With Resident Evil, we're trying to be as inclusive as possible. We're trying to reach as many people as possible. As you said yourself, that makes it hard to maintain a horror feel to it when you're trying to be inclusive".
Hirabayashi: "We're making games and we need to have mass-market appeal in order to survive."Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

I'm not asking for that, bud. If you wanna know what I want, is more games like the Remake. Which took that old formula and made it new and exciting. Without doing away with it. But I don't ask for that because I don't trust Capcom with redoing an old classic RE game.
Coincidentally, Kobayashi mentioned in the same interview that such remakes were a possibility. However, he made it clear that the MAINLINE series would need to continue with its focus on what mainstream gamers want and what sells. And its anything but Survival Horror. That option is too niche for them.
So when I say that we're getting a rebbot, that's exactly what we're gonna be getting. Regardless of what WE want. That's what Capcom is going to sell RE7 as. Because they cannot possibly sell that game as "more of the same". And they obviously won't go back to RE's roots (not when they're going after mainstream gamers). So the only option they will have in their box of tricks, is rebooting the series. Not in terms of plotline (who cares about that? That wasn't what gave RE6 its bad scores for the most part), but in terms of gameplay. A game changer like RE4 was in its time.
Anyway, I got a hot plate in front of me and I'm been writing this as fast as possible so that I can get busy stuffing my face with some grub. Cheers.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

How do Capcom know survival horror doesn't sell when they haven't made a survival horror game in ten years? Ironically the reason games like Resident Evil 6 sell is not because it's a Call of Duty esque 3rd person shooter game, but because it's a Resident Evil game. Arguably, the game isn't very good from a technical stand point, imo, but the game will still sell and Capcom will still take those sales as a success regardless of the quality of the content. This is why you won't see Capcom making a new francise, because it's too much of a gamble and they lose the support of existing loyal fans by having to create new ones.

Metroid Prime is a perfect example of a franchise getting a reboot. Not really in terms of story or plot (it never was its forte anyway) but in terms of gameplay. It went from being a 2D action adventure exploration game, to a First Person Adventure game. A drastic change that was responsible for RESTARTING the franchise and making it relevant again.

Perhaps you're more comfortable with the word overhaul? Then lets use that one instead, then. Either way, it will be empty words which Capcom will certainly use to help sell RE7 after the recent RE6 debacle.
Here's some words of wisdom from the man in charge of RE: Kobayashi...
Kobayashi: If you have multiple scary stages, just one right after another, and you give that to a Resident Evil fan, they’ll be happy with it at first. But they’ll get inured to it after a while. It won’t be scary for them anymore. I think they would lose interest at that point.
It’s the same with casual players. They play this and it’s just too scary and they don’t want to keep going. It’s too much. It overwhelms them. In order to make and experience something that these two groups find enjoyable, you have to take a step back from that.
The challenge is trying to push it as close to the edge either way, so that we can satisfy both groups of people. I think we can do it, I really do like horror. I’m fine with pushing it up to 11 in terms of horror. But maybe that’s not what we can do and still be saleable.

Quite a hypocritical thing to say if I'm perfectly honest. I've been playing this game for three hours and all I've heard is constant machine gun fire, literally constant. I'm bored already, I've seen not one bit of horror anywhere throughout these entire sections of this scenario. I guess that's why they have three different scenarios, so they don't have to spend the time in making a perfect balance... Laziness if you ask me. Personally I'm keeping Leon's scenario till last because I know fine well that this is the scenario I'm going to enjoy the most.Last edited by Guest; 10-03-2012, 10:53 PM.
