I know this was sarcasm, but I have to be honest. There have been very few games this generation where I was legitimately excited about the gameplay. And even among those, there were very few I actually ended up thoroughly enjoying. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded, but I think I've been disappointed by far more games that I was looking forward to this generation than in any previous generation.

I have to wonder if it's because so few developers these days, outside of Nintendo anyway, seem to be far more interested in creating a Hollywood-style blockbuster than an actual game. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy many of these "experiences" as much as the next person, but when I look back on them, it's not the gameplay that I remember, and that's a problem. Well, for me it is, anyway. This may very well be the reason why I'm far more excited about the potential of the WiiU than I am the next Playstation or X-Box, and it has nothing to do with it being a Nintendo product.

Even though most of the games announced for the system at this time are ports of games that will be close to a year old (some will even be over a year old) by the time the WiiU launches, I nevertheless find myself excited at the prospects that the WiiU's controller will bring to these titles. New ways of playing and enjoying these games that simply were not possible on the Playstation 3 or X-Box 360. Call me a filthy casual if you want, but I am much more excited about the potential for new forms of interaction with our games than the games themselves.

    • Well who would really care for resident evil overall if it only had shit characters ?... what really makes you so drawn into the whole resident evil universe is the characters ( i think) if i want braindead zombie fun i go play something like zombie panic online.. but resident evil in my eyes have always been about the characters.

      • Kratos and Master Chief are terrible characters, but I still play God of War and Halo, because the games are fun.

Obviously this is a case of "different strokes for different folks," but the only time a main character actually soured the experience for me was when I played Prototype. Otherwise, how likeable or memorable the characters are generally means little to me.

Well i agree that master chief is a horrible character but in my case.. i think the characters have been so fantastic, that i dont really care what happend to the gameplay ... back then i loved the characters with all the horror going on around them today i still love them.. just with more action going on.

          • Not sure if this has already been mentioned but it seems Chris is in China to rescue a VIP from the United Nations.

            • Was that in the latest Famitsu or something?

              • It was in Captivate RE6 preview in Famitsu. So it is over a month old news.

When it comes to games (not books, movies, or TV shows) I ALWAYS want to know how it plays. Because that's what games are all about: Gameplay. So even in this day and age, I still skip over the characters, the eye-candy, all that filler stuff. That's hows it's been with me since the SNES days.

I started out being a fan of platformers and RPG games. Mostly because of the exploration (finding secret rooms, items or short cuts, etc.) and the puzzles.

When I found out RE had a lot of that plus survival-horror elements, I was hooked. The gameplay got me into it. This was before any of the characters became the ICONS that they are today (and waaay before they each got a fanbase).

So, pardon me for placing gameplay over characters when it comes to a GAME.

                  Maybe I'm old school.

I dunno if a new console will change things. If the devs continue catering to the crowd that likes to do this all the time:

                        Yeah, it's pretty spot-on (if you're implying what I think you're implying).

                            • Look, as long as Jake doesn't have a vision of Wesker telling him to take his place in the Circle of Life, I think we'll be OK.
