I have to wonder if it's because so few developers these days, outside of Nintendo anyway, seem to be far more interested in creating a Hollywood-style blockbuster than an actual game. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy many of these "experiences" as much as the next person, but when I look back on them, it's not the gameplay that I remember, and that's a problem. Well, for me it is, anyway. This may very well be the reason why I'm far more excited about the potential of the WiiU than I am the next Playstation or X-Box, and it has nothing to do with it being a Nintendo product.
Even though most of the games announced for the system at this time are ports of games that will be close to a year old (some will even be over a year old) by the time the WiiU launches, I nevertheless find myself excited at the prospects that the WiiU's controller will bring to these titles. New ways of playing and enjoying these games that simply were not possible on the Playstation 3 or X-Box 360. Call me a filthy casual if you want, but I am much more excited about the potential for new forms of interaction with our games than the games themselves.
