I wish more individuals saw gaming like we do.

Actual gameplay is what sets video games apart from movies, television, books, and the like. It gives it more of a reason to be replayed (or re-experienced), and is what makes it active entertainment as opposed to passive entertainment. Every time you watch a movie, it's the same outcome - the hero always wins, the villain dies, yada yada. But in a game, there are alternate paths; alternate experiences. Maybe Barry saves you from the trap ceiling, or maybe he gives you acid rounds. Perhaps you meet Carlos in the restaurant and see him at the gas station, or meet him in the newspaper office and see him kill Murphy. Sometimes you feel like saving Rodrigo, and other times you don't. There's so many variables.

The problem I see with modern games is that they're trying too hard to emulate film as opposed to creating something original. What set games apart in the 90s and early 2000s was that you had the option to explore; to immerse yourself in the environment. With games now, you sit through long, scripted cutscenes that play the exact same way every time you play the game, because developers have it in their thick heads that people don't want to replay games like they used to. Guess what? They do! People return games all the time because they're not replayable, but if they were, they'd hold on to them. Forced long-ass QTE cutscenes (Krauser knife fight, anyone?) don't make for replayable games!

I can't tell you how many SNES, N64, and GCN games I've owned since day one because they're replayable. Yes, graphics and entertaining characters help, but at the end of the day, if the gameplay isn't great, I don't give a shit about the game. With so many gamers today, the presentation is all they care about. You know, the shiny graphics, epic bro story, shooting, explosions, violence, etc. The actual gameplay could be the filler part of the "game" (Mass Effect, anyone?), but if the overall experience is there, people flock to it in droves. It's really quite sad.

This is what I see with RE6 - massive presentation; fluff. We've seen too little of the actual gameplay to make me think that it will be anything special. I'm honestly expecting a darker RE5, in which case there's no way I'm buying it.
Millennials are taking over... we gotta accept that eventually, we'll have to move on (especially those born in the last century, damn dinosaurs).

That is, unless we come to accept that Bieber is the future of music and that living our entire lives through a smartphone is the best way to live. I mean, you haven't lived until you post your shit on Twitter or Facebook. It's a "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it" kinda thing. You gotta tell people what you do. Including playing with them.

That's why RE6 will be a party game at the core. 2 players no less. That's the way it is.

We're relics of the past... we should consider playing golf, pinochle or canasta. Because things won't go back to how they used to be.

BTW, I'm kinda drunk and it's hot in LA... cheers.

    • If RE was not what it is today it would have died a long time ago, some may be fine with that but I for one enjoy most of my RE including RE4, RE5 to some degree and I loved Revelations, RE changed for a reason and there is a reason a series like Silent Hill is failing and has been for many years.

        • I mean come on, we all have beef with things Capcom does, but then if they don't listen to the fans then why do we have Zombies back? why do we have our dark atmospheric locations back, Resident Evil has become bigger then just a video-game series, Capcom has many different fan bases to please now, and hate RE4 or RE5 as much as you like but at the end of the day they were solid games that many people want to play.

I don't know many details about Dead Space 3 but did I hear right that the rumors are that series is doing something similar to Resident Evil 5? co-op and that sort of thing, don't blame Capcom, blame the new generation of gamers.

          • Capcom kind of made the choice to focus on which part of the fan base though.

            • Could be worse tough, Capcom said they want COD type sales, but they can't because the backlash from us fans is to great if they were to make it completely a shooter. I for one have no problem with Chris's story being more Action Horror, I mean it makes sense does it not? you have a team that is prepared for the threat so why should it be like Leons scenario were you are desperate for ammo? Leon obviously got the surprise about the situation which means he was much less prepared
for it then Chris, Jake and Sherry's scenario? well okay I am not 100% convinced on that yet.

Don't point the finger at the original fan base. We were the reason the series flourished for the first 8 years of its history.

                • lol Wrath I'm not saying anything bad about us old school fans what I mean is because of us Capcom cannot completely abandon horror.

                        Lol.

I kind of agree with Shane on alot of things he said. I did enjoy playing RE4 and 5 and still do sometimes. Not so much 5 it can be abit boring after a few playthroughs. Revelations was cracking though. Up until RE5 and even a short while after I was against ending the series but to be honest it is getting to me abit now. I wouldnt be as gutted now as I would have a few years back if this series ended after 6. I would like a very good overall ending though tying up ALOT of plot holes.

The thing that has got me thinking maybe its time to call it a day more than anything EVER in this series is the beat em up gameplay with Jake. I am not a fan of these games at all. The last one I played that I actually enjoyed was Dantes Inferno. Beat em up in RE means one thing and one thing only. RE7 Recap Alice (Dun dun duuuuurrrr) :-O
