Capcom has no reason to kill off Claire. They have already sold the fact that he is depressed because he is responsible for the death of his team. What reason do they have to kill off Claire? Not that I wouldnt like to see it because the series is way over due a main character death but it aint gonna happen. I cant believe its even being discussed after all that happened pre RE5. They dont even have the balls to use the 'real' Ada as a bad guy how the hell are they going to grow a set to kill a main character off. Dream on guys.

Capcom didn't "buckle" when it came to Jill's "death." From the very beginning of RE5's development, she was never supposed to actually die.

I really hope it's just a rumor but you really never know... didn't they dodge any question regarding Jill and Claire's involvement in 6?
I know Allyson said she's not going to be in it but it's not like she can just admit it lol, especially if her character is supposed to be part of such a plot twist.
If Downfall is indeed coming I don't see why they haven't announced it yet though. After all it wouldn't be much different from what Ubisoft is doing with ACIII and Liberation on Vita.

If for example Jill is dead or forever lost to Chris, I think we may be saying goodbye to the original's s.t.a.r.s members just seems like the end of an era for the series. I don't think Claire is dead, she has so much more use to the series yet but Jill and Chris have had their spotlight and maybe now is the time to say goodbye.

The idea about Claire's fate is just one guy's opinion. We don't know the full story of what happened to Chris between RE5 and RE6. I personally think Claire and Jill are both alive, but Chris may have had a falling out with one of them. If the thing on the necklace was a ring (and I'm still sad it's not), it would be a lot easier to speculate.

The locket definitely could have something to do with a female, whether a death or simply a love interest. Yes, it can just be part of the outfit, but drinking for 6 months and he remembers to wear it around his neck?
