Also, people really shouldn't be using the "Serious Players Only" tag in Mercs if, you know, they aren't really "serious". I just joined a lobby tagged with it a while ago and the host died three times in a row, all during when we were in the 120+ combo range, no less.
Maybe they are serious but just not very good. I hate putting high scores as the objective just to watch someone pick medic or increase item drop as the skill, waste of time.

I also hate partners who are completely oblivious to why I use power counter, and why I run up to enemies and stand in front of them doing nothing for a couple moments...so they shoot them.

Or the people who cannot decide what they doing at the start, either both partners collect times bonuses then start killing, or one starts killing and the other gets all times bonuses, so many time I see my partner make a kill right at the start, except then I see them going for a time bonus so I'm left to keep the combo going, but then after getting one time bonus they start killing too, a minute goes by so I figure up to me to get the other time bonuses, so I run away from enemies to get one, as I do so my partner suddenly decided to go get one as well, combo dropped. This happens so often. I just quit the match straight away now if they make a kill at start and don't keep the combo going. I quit if they shoot enemies I'm readying to counter too.

    • All I know is, for open areas like Urban Chaos or Mining the Depths, for high scores I love using Jake with the Martial Arts Master skill. He rips through enemies so fast with his hand to hand free melee charge. If you can properly use him, he has the potential for being the highest scorer. It does take practice to learn the melee system properly though. He's lots of fun to play as.

I'll have a look through the loadouts when I get home and try and make a tier list. Right now though I can tell that Jake (Default) is top-tier at least though.

Edit: Alright, feel free to give input, but this is the tier list I've come up with taking into account score potential with both guns and melee options, and however you optimize skills.

Note: Carla only has a Default costume thus far in Mercenaries.

      God-tier: Jake (Default)
Top-tier: Sherry (Default), Leon (Pirate), Piers (NASCAR), Ada (Fong Ling)
Mid-tier: Leon (Default), Helena (Default), Chris (Default), Chris (Monk), Sherry (Schoolgirl)
Low-tier: Ada (Default), Piers (Default), Carla (Default)
      Shit-tier: Helena (Officer), Jake (Gangster)

The huge issue with Gangster Jake is the lack of any sort of gun that allows for melee setup of any kind, and no hand-to-hand. The knife is next to useless in Mercs.

          • Canas Renvall : I would place Ada (Default) in lame-tier because the crossbow sucks in this mode, and her machine gun is not powerful enough. I thought Jake (Gangster) would suck too, but actually the knife is a good weapon, because every time you kill a zombie with it (in just a few quick slices) it gives you the 5 sec bonus, even if you don't melee the enemy with a prompt. And the sniper auto is real good to get headshots, and since it's his main weapon, you always get ammo for it, unlike the other characters. You have to play differently with him, he's not easy to master but I think he's not so bad after all.

The knife is actually really good, it gives a time bonus for a kill, makes doing a melee kill on dogs easy for a time bonus and a lot less risky than hoping to counter them, if you quick-fire the knife on a bloodshot it wil go into a kneeling state for a coup-finisher and 7 second bonus, useful for when may not have room/time to make them leap at you for a +10 counter, and often catch 2-3 bloodshots in one quickfire knife if they bunched. Can also set up a regular melee with a simple slash.

I think power-counter is the best skill to use, the extra time it gives probably beats anything else by far when it comes to additional score. Problem is some characters cannot even get a kill using the main weapon on basic zombies, or are limited with weapons to use.

Leon - Only shotgun will counter kill, pistol does not work.
Chris - Knife will not counter kill, though assault rifle is main weapon really, Magnum also works.
Jake alt - Unlike Chris, his knife will counter-kill, just thought I mention that. Other weapons also counter kill.
              Sherry - NOTHING counter kills.
Ada - Her machine pistol only counter kills half the time, unreliable.
Carla - Pistol only counter kills half the time, unreliable.

With the exception of Chris for reason stated I think it puts all these characters in a low tier, Sherry at the very bottom. While they can just use another weapon that will counter kill you need a weapon that can quickly kill should a zombie not swing in time or instead do the forward topple which cannot counter, and cannot be wasting powerful weapons ammo on that, in Ada's case the crossbow works for counter kills but that thing reloads too slow and single shot often fails to kill a zombie, not good in emergency to keep combo going.

Anyone can get a 150 combo and pass a million odd, or use regular melee attacks (even alt Jake) but as time goes on I expect those above, aside from Chris, dropping down the online ranks.

@alexdz - With Ada can flush one down the toilet also.

                • I'd really like to know which idiot at CAPCOM thinks the driving sequences are fun to play. It's sad that the most terrible aspects of the game were probably the most expensive.

I truly dread these parts of the game. I wasn't fond of the sequence in RE5, but at least it was just one, quick section. Not only are there far too many driving sequences in RE6, they also seem to go on forever and, as you said, they're just not fun. Ugh.

                    • ^ Honestly, Chris's wasn't too terrible I thought (keeping in mind you only drive as Chris half the time, haven't tried Piers' half). The snowmobiles were meh, but again not awful. Far from good, but not the worst. Jake and the motorcycle though... I wanted to break necks. I'm never playing that part as Jake again. Sherry all the way because then I don't have to drive.

Yeah, the Chris part the lesser of all the evils. I've played through with both Piers and Chris, and neither are as frustrating as Jake. Completely and utterly agree about never wanting to play as him during that sequence, ever again. Oh, God. I am still haunted by how insanely frustrating it was...

                          • I'm pretty sure I died like 20 times with my co-op partner in that scenario simply because of the driving controls. Cranking the analog stick to the right or left to avoid a car, and Jake barely moves. Hell, even making turns, it is literally impossible to make a perfect turn because the game doesn't allow you to turn more than half an inch at a time.

That is the low point of the game for me. Other than that I think it's a great game, but that annoys me above all else, weird elevator QTE included.

                            • What does everyone think of the music I this game? Am I the only one who thinks a lot of the time it sounds like someone smashing their face on the keyboard of an organ?

Small details like those are what make RE6 great for me. There's also the zombie hand soup... Try it when you're near a boiling stewpot on the market in Leon's campaign.
