Either way there's apparently some DLC coming next week on PSN so that's likely the new Merc maps (or the preorder ones).
The new modes are supposed to come on Xbox first so it can't be those.

Unlocking things through RE.net or via free patches is a good way to have content coming to the game while not forcing people to pay for it.
Otherwise people would simply beat the game and trade it in for something else. If the game is interesting enough for them and more (free) content is on the way they're more likely to keep it instead... which results in more sales.

edit: Just going to copy/paste something from earlier in this thread.
Locking DLC on disc so can sell it while a crappy practice has obvious uses, in SFxT for example people do not need a large patch to play the 'DLC' characters, something older Xbox arcade owners would have missed out on for example since lack the hardrive space, is cheaper for Capcom to distribute also. Locking content on a disc when not even going to sell it though, that is just witholding parts of the game that the people buying it could just be enjoying. Capcom have likely done it in an attempt to feign some sort of support for the game, but it is not support when you take something away and withold it, SFxT did the same thing with costume colours, even still they are slowly unlocking extra colours for free on PSN and XBLA, but they all been ready to use day one, it is not support. Go ask the SFxT community how they feel about the support of the game. You'll find the majority answer being 'complete shit'.
Actual 'free' support is like what Mass Effect 3 is doing with the multiplayer map packs, bringing new maps, new races, new classes to download and play for the multiplayer and it being actual new content added. Not witholding stuff on disc and unlocking it later.Last edited by Dracarys; 10-28-2012, 06:12 AM.Beanovsky Durst - "They are not pervs. They are japanese."

The whole "EVERYTHING SHOULD BE AVAILABLE RIGHT AWAY! I PAID FOR THIS AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WHAT I WANT! I CAN ALWAYS SKIP PAGES IN A BOOK I'VE BOUGHT. WAH WAH WAH" thing.
It's sad to see them unlock it like that (Heck, they should've made a micro transaction for it instead. Take a cue from Namco and EA.)

So Cliffy B, the man behind the Gears of War series, wants to work on Resident Evil with Capcom. He recently posted on his twitter:
Hey, Capcom. Call me. We can fix Resident Evil. Together. :-)
Thoughts?

CliffyB can't fix shit. Needs to actually make something non-Gears of War before flaunting himself.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Capcom wants Resident Evil to play like a Western third person shooter. CliffyB is one of the men responsible for arguably the most influential third person shooter this gen.
Makes sense to me. It's not like Gears of War's story is any worse than Resident Evil's. At least the gameplay will improve.

So I guess it "could" be interesting to see what they could if they combine forces...
But really, Resident Evil 6 is a case of being horrifyingly misunderstood and incorrectly played. Gameplay mechanics that are poorly explained and various functions that I'd dare say are too complex for "slow" players to properly utilize/grasp when not gradually introduced to them. The execution of QTEs are ... questionable, sure, but in many of the cases; how do you even pull off those things in an "interactive" environment?
Anyway, I really feel like RE6 is another case of things like;
People playing Vanquish like a cover shooter, moaning about it being boring and slow.
People playing GodHand without building combos, moaning about repetitiveness and lacking intuitivity.
People playing Lost Planet multiplayer w/out bitching about stuff being "unfair" when they haven't even bothered learning weapon and movement effects.
People playing Bionic Commando like a cover shooter and moaning about the gameplay not offering much.
People playing Devil May Cry 2.
People playing any game on the easiest difficulty, moaning about it being too easy and/or short.
People playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, moaning about hit inaccurate hitboxes; although they remain consistant and play by very solid rules.
People playing Silent Hill and actually trying to engage in combat with everything that moves, just to moan about the battle system being ass.
People playing the new Steel Battalion, moaning about the lack of a giant ass controller, whilst at the same time not bothering to "set things up" for the new one.
People playing pretty much any game without ever taking any risks or making investments in fear of losing something and pretty much effectively always robbing themselves of the thrill the rewarding feeling that succesfully pulling off something awesome brings.
