Well it's just hard to argue Jill is all about looks when nearly every main RE female has just as much fanservice. And if Capcom was all about making Jill this perfectly polished shell of a character then why did they go out of their way to punish her in RE5 and give her this extra weight about "killing her off" and bringing her back as this brainwashed enemy? She's concealed in a cloak and mask for most of the main campaign. Sure there's her battle suit design, but that chest that anti-Jill fans place as the only thing Capcom cares about is now heavily scarred which to me shows that even if they are about fanservice they also are willing to step up now and take risks.

Claire (These tight jean shorts and several ass shots especially in darkside)
Excella (Do I need to describe)
Ashely (The peek shot we all know about)
I'm sure I could go on. They are not acting slutty either they are WOMEN. Women dress with sex appeal. If you guys cant accept a skirt of cleveage here and there then maybe you should move to Iraq and play their video games. The least slutty character is Rebbeca next to Jill in my opinion. I dont know why I'm doing this because I will become labelled a Jill Fanboy but no its not that I'm just sick to death of hearing her be bashed for wearing a skirt 10+ years ago....GET OVER IT!!!!
I do agree that capcom have gone too far with the over the top outfits and character designs on occaision (jessica, Ada, Excella and that huge boobed woman from revelations) but as far as im concerned the fan service is pretty tame in this series, especially coming out of the country that invented Anime and manga, the biggest culprits of fanservice ive ever seen.
Besides I came to terms with the rather bland personalities of the characters in this series a long time ago. None of them are especially deep although they have been changing this recently, id go so far as to say that RE5 features characters with the most depth in the series.

The thing with Jill's RE3 outfit is that it's fan service at the expense of the character, because it makes no actual sense for her to wear it and a number of reasons for her not to. I know there are several explanations given, but none of them make much sense.
1 - She was caught off guard and couldn't change clothes.
Alright. Let's assume that Jill was somehow unaware of any of the incidents the week before the full outbreak, that none of her friends at the RPD, concerned with how these things were matching her story gave her a heads up, and that she was somehow oblivious to impending doom. A big assumption, but OK. Somehow she managed to find a gun and harness but couldn't find a pair of jeans? Or did she got clubbing with a gun on, just in case?
2 - It was hot.
Which would you rather be - itchy and sweaty with a layer or two of denim and leather between you and zombie bites, or cool and rotting in the heat? Now, apply that to a woman whose combat trained by, if I recall correctly, the Navy SEALs. You don't think Jill would prefer a little discomfort over being bit?
3 - They make actual sense really.
It's apparently not that comfortable to wear a boob tube and micro skirt, compared to, say, a t-shirt and pants. I've only tried a couple of times, but my wife assures me they aren't much fun.
It's fan service. But I object because it's fan service that makes a supposedly professional soldier look more concerned about a good night out than her own skin not being gnawed on, which has never been how Jill is portrayed.

Well, well... business as usual here. The never ending argument about RE characters and the clothes they wear.
Anywhoo... those reviews keep coming in.
Resident Evil: Revelations is an excellent game and a must own if you have a Nintendo 3DS. The gameplay fits the 3DS and there is plenty in that tiny game card to keep you occupied for hours on end. Capcom really pushed the envelope with the graphics and while the story hold the game back from its true potential, it is still one of the best Resident Evil games in the series. Fans of Resident Evil should definitely pick this copy up as you will not be disappointed by what it has to offer you. Hopefully Capcom can continue to bring this type of depth and fun to the future portable Resident Evil Titles.
REV Fanart of dah day....

Wow, this thread sure took off.
Originally posted by Dracarys View PostI'm curious, what is Jills personality, according to you.
She simply has no personality. She is focused on the mission 110% and could care less about anything else. That's it. There's no more detail than that. She is literally walking fan service. When the original RE1 was in development, I don't think the developers were all "Let's give Jill a lot of depth and personality so people will find her interesting." No, they simply wanted to do something different and offer an option to play as the "hot chick" in revolutionary (at the time) graphics. Thus Jill was born, the byproduct of pervy Japanese developers exploiting the "weaknesses" of the male gamer. She didn't need to have a personality because the developers knew that their key demographic would like her for simply being a young, attractive female.
Then RE2 came along and introduced several new female characters, all of which individually had more character than Jill ever could have hoped to have. RE2 did add a bit of tiny depth to Jill's character, though - we could now infer that she played guitar and probably had a boyfriend in 1998. Whoever wrote RE2 at least tried. But after that, it's back to the same lock-picking, generic female "soldier" type with a severe lack of humor.

I also agree with your assessments of character dress. Jill's attire in RE3 was pure fan service, just like Jill's existence in RE1 was fan service. The Jill fanboys (or girls) can give me all the crap they want, but to me she isn't even a real character. RE2 tried a little bit, and RE5 tried a lot, but she'll probably always be the same old "fan service Jill" to me. In Revelations, I might as well have played as a brick.Last edited by Det.
