  • Any resident evil games censored from beta in final release?

I think Capcom began self censoring final products that was shown on beta versions, not just Code Veronica and Dino Crisis.

It's from the dead site called Resident Evil Uncensored: "The intro was one of the things that was drastically changed. It was originally twice the length of the intro there is now. It first showed a hiker walking in the woods then suddenly it got mangled apart by the killer dogs and his remains flowed down the Marble River. Their remains were eventually found and Enrico held a press conference to inform the public of what occurred. Bravo team was then sent to the woods area to investigate but lightning struck a communications tower so communication with the Bravo team was lost. Then the Alpha team goes to find them and that’s where the new intro comes in. However, even in the new intro stuff was removed. Or cut as I’d put it. Joseph finds a severed hand with blood drooling out of the bottom of it shortly before he dies. The intro never shows the dogs tear him apart because they censored it."

(http://s4.invisionfree.com/Resident_...3/ar/t1358.htm) - There is a forum talking about gory scenes from Resident Evil 2 & 3 that was shown in the beta, were censored in the final product. Such as in RE2 when you first meet licker in the room where an officer's head got chopped off, you run in to the pool of blood and then the decapitated head falls down on you. Also the same thing in RE3 when you meet a monster bug, a mercenary body falls on the floor. Pretty scary, huh?

I don't know if we find an uncensored beta version ROM for us to check it out?

The only censoring I can think of besides the RE1 intro was the RE4 trailer. When Ashley is trapped in the castle, she screams "Oh my God, what's going on?!" But in-game they cut out "Oh my God". Small, but silly.

Also in RE4 there's a glitch you can do (I think Gamecube and Wii versions only, or maybe just Gamecube, but I know it definitely crashes the PS2 version) to get out of the farm area map and find an ammo dump, which also contains a beta key item, Homing Darts (which are seen in-game as the "exclusive" upgrade for the mine thrower). They were originally going to be a key item for something.

Sad that, of all the RE games, I know more glitches in the one I like least.

In the RE4 trailers they also altered "Creatures that defy God's creation" into "Creatures that defy nature". So at some point during RE4 I take it they wanted to remove all the God stuff including Ashley's line.

But then RE5 brings it right back.... ;>_>

"I couldn't control my actions, oh but God I was still aware"---Jill.

So yeah..... Weird how things turn around. RE4 had more gore than RE5, but when it comes to the whole 'God' thing they sweep it under the rug.

That's different context though. The removed RE4 one makes reference to the creation of something as an act of god, the latter Jill statement is just a colloquial comment with no actual religious connotation in it's use. Yes, it's sourced from religious reason for the reason it's included in the English language but has no impact of any religion on it's use (in fact it's even more removed from someone saying "Oh My God" or simular because the focus is on the individual and not an outside source and even the former these days is used often without any religous connection). RE5 had worse controversies anyway as you know :p

I have no idea how people keep quoting this RE Uncensored site from years ago, but having been working on RE Sitez at the time, I can recall it seemingly had a lot of rumors that were not true as purported truth. I don't know if this is one of those but seeing as I never heard it before or after it's very likely.

If anyone around here can properly answer the point if there was more planned to the opening that would be Jerome from his work on SurvivHor or maybe NewsBot from PU, but I suspect even if there is truth to it - it was never censored but just planned and dropped due to budget for the opening.

Most of the censorship known comes from later titles is accurate however. The policemans head has been found from RE2 (you can find that online), the RE3 stuff has been noted in visual form as well. Code Veronica of course suffered from self-censorship as did some of the other titles because of tougher laws in Japan until the CERO reform.

I though some of the censorship also came from the fact that the columbine incident also occurred a few months prior to the games release?

About RE2 and 3 these might not be the only ones but the known yet ...

However i read somewhere that in RE3 We were Supposed to See People Dying "Eaten" infront of our eyes ....
Wierd that there many people Die in RE3 ,Including Darios Daughter which you just see her running then in next room you see her dead , Dario ,

                        Complete bullshit.

RE1 was originally meant to be censored to an extent. Zombies were meant to have green blood at some point during development due to "external pressure" against red blood, but they managed to get it changed before release by including the shocking content disclaimer on the cover. The only other case of censorship in the game is the intro.

                        None of those are censors.

It's religious censorship to omit 'God' from the material that it was introduced in.

It can also just be a simple change.

Alteration comes with censorship regardless Newsie. Changing 'God's creation' to 'Nature', and even botching up a lip sync just to omit "Oh my God' from a character's dialogue is a representation of the game's censorship on religion. The motives behind it are irrelevant to the fact that these "simple changes" remove God out of the material it previously established in there.
