    The evidence is in the game. The gamecube copy has two trailers on it and one of them is the one I linked with the omitted line. Currently scouring youtube for a version of that trailer.

      Sounds like a case of CAPCOM USA being dickless, not deliberate censorship by the developers, particularly since the trailers that were actually publicly released featured "God's creation". This topic isn't about regional post-development censorship, though. If it was, I could bring up the fact that Robert Kendo makes fun of the U.S. Government's firearms in the original Japanese file text in RE3. Or that Dario curses like a fucking sailor (fuck, asshole and shit, probably a little more since some are interchangeable in Japanese).

      Ashley doesn't say "Oh my God" in the game's script judging from that scene's Japanese subtitles, so all they really did was trim the bullshit.

      EDIT: Actually, the script for the trailers doesn't actually say "Creatures that defy God's creation". The Japanese text in the screenshots I posted just says 新しい敵 ("New Enemies"). So the entire line is bullshit one way or another.

        Scoured YouTube, Capcom's websites, Gametrailers, and a few gaming websites... I can't find it either, but I know I've seen the change for sure. It was obviously done for the religious reason implied, but indeed it's a US publicity change and not one made by Capcom Japan.

        In fact it's made even more odd by it's inconsistancy in the US. I know the trailer which the second image you posted News Bot was released in a US format unchanged from the Japanese trailer in 2003 (god's creation intact), but only to change it in a trailer released around a year later seems weird. The first screen grab is the Japanese TGS2K4 trailer I know that much, and it's around this time the US trailer was the changed one I'm certain.

        I don't think my memory has failed me this time :p heh

          I think the English subtitles in the trailers (BLAST THE ENEMY IN KEY HIT ZONES etc included) are all done by CAPCOM USA, as the Japanese text is nowhere close to the same.

          As for Ashley, the game's dialogue was re-recorded after E3 2004 because the voice actors sounded bored out of their skulls. More likely to be related to that.

            ^ Yeah, that I know. Actually going back to the earlier trailers in an effort to find this changed one - I got a refresher course on that specifically. You can just hear bad voice acting through most of it from Leon, because him being the focus of the earlier trailers more, makes half hearted attempts at everything.

            Just to clarify, I only agree on the god's creation thing because I do recall seeing the altered trailer and noting it because I thought it was an odd change to make after all the time the old one had been used. But I have little to no understanding otherwise of any other voice changes in regards to specific lines other than general major changes that everyone notes (ie. voice acting overall).

            I think we all have had this topic well covered by now, so unless there is more to say about changes to the gameplay... I think I'll be done with this for the time being.

              It's in the game. As I'm out of country I cannot take a screencap of my gamecube and wii copies, but if anyone would like to that would be fine. So far the in-game trailers that I could pull relate to the PS2 version which doesn't have it.

                Just to add something to this whole thing;
                Stripping out random religious references (or anything else that people "living or dead" could somehow find offensive, none-coincidential or otherwise a perfectly (un)reasonable reason for an inane lawsuit or media banter) has always been common practice in (entertainment) media.

                Not gonna bother touching whether or not "OMG" was in the game and-what-not, but removal of words such as "God" is a pretty common last-minute change in both the development and translation phase of something. Sadly, the larger the company is, the more of a target are they likely to become of people being stupid about stuff.

                Just look at how the UK release of Rule of Rose went into hiding and how what's likely to've been fear for more "bad taste"-esque media coverage gave Raw Danger a creepishly limited release. It's to this day a mystery and release miracle that Deadly Premonition hasn't become target of someone feeling like they own some sort of fortune 'cause of how the game either offended them or referenced something they somehow feel like they should get a dime for everytime someone mentions.

                Welcome to the wonderful world of marketing lingo!

                Anyway, the only type of self-censoring-ish thing I can think of right away would be (more like self-restraining - as there's not exactly much to go on as far as suggesting anything "uncensored" even existed in the first place);

                1. Resident Evil 5 using one SKU world-wide, preventing them from having regional levels of (death scene) censorship like they did in Resident Evil 4 - (while system region detection could have allowed a single SKU for all, idiotic lawsuits and media drama over "Nudity mods" for Oblivion and "Hot Coffee" for San Andreas requiring the games to be re-rated have proven that it's sadly not a viable solution...)
                -Oddly enough, despite having no "on-screen" decapitation or similar in RE5, there's at least ONE brutal death scene in the game (the insta-death om-nom-nom attack from the armored soldiers, post-mutation, which features the character getting copped in half by the waistline)
                -Then there's the issue with more than one camera/player.

                2: Resident Evil: Revelations
                -Not unreasonable to think that this game's 16+ PEGI (MA15 BBFC, iirc) rating is a result of some self-restraints, but certain technical limitations might also be a key role in the lower ratings here (just like graphical improvements on home consoles have kinda automatically kicked ratings one step up in certain regions and franchises)

                    The thought of censoring God references in RE5 most likely ran across their minds as well, until they realized that half the game is Wesker saying he has the right to become one lol.

                      The right to be a..... Master?

                      The right to be a..... Legend?

                      I don't think of myself as a King..... I think of myself as Power. Unlimited power!

                      I'm glad they didn't change those lines any.

                      I couldn't control my actions, but oh Cheez and Friez I was still aware... Forgive me.

                        I think without the god placement overtones all Wesker would be saying is he wants to rule the world, which just sounds like a cartoon villian and would just have been funny. I still would have watched it. Would have laughed my ass off though.

                          Even with the God complex he still sounded like a cartoon villain. Spencer should have replaced his lines with "emperor" and they would have worked out just fine.

                          What I find weird is why Barry believes in cod of all things?

                            The concept of God is heavily connected to creator and ruler. Emperor just means ruler.

                            What Spencer and Wesker were trying to do, create a new human race and rule it, is closer to the concept of a God.
