Onimusha was originally meant to be a Resident Evil game? I remember seeing footage of it on PS1, but I didn't know there was other stuff on it. Sengoku Biohazard... lol.

Still, this is some awesome info. I remember hearing a while back that Tony even used Ebony and Ivory as his main weapons, and the tipping point to make the title into a new franchise was when Tony was also going to be able to use a sword.

That footage actually used the BH1.5 engine, too.

News Bot can correct me if I'm wrong, but for the majority of the game, Dante was going to use guns. He would face off with Vergil a few times, as in the final game, and after their last confrontation, Dante would acquire Yamato, and you could use the sword from thereon.

Kamiya also wanted to put a dinosaur into the game, but that somehow got warped into Griffon. I imagine the T-Rex skeleton may have been a nod to that.

Where did the 'Devil May Resident Evil' version appear in the RE4 Development Nightmare? I assume it was before the Fog/Hookman, Re4 Wit Da Zombies and RE4 with Assorted Peasants versions?

It was before the series was moved to the GameCube. It was supposed to be a PS2 game.

Honestly, I've always been more interested in this version of Resident Evil 4 than any of the other scrapped builds. I would have also been very interested to see what the fan outcry might have been like had this version received the greenlight. People can complain all they want about the version we actually got, but it's much, much closer to the classic style than Kamiya's vision ever was.

Just noticed something awesome? In the DMC anime, Ebony and Ivory are engraved as a gift to Dante's alias. Tony Redgrave..... Was this a reference to the original RE4 s cenario?

It's not just the anime. If you examine the guns in DMC1, you can see Tony Redgrave on them, as well.

In the DMC1 novel, Tony Redgrave was an alias Dante used. The novel was considered canon until the release of Devil May Cry 3, but his alias is still referenced from time to time, such as in the anime.

Onimusha series producer Keiji Inafune actually mentions that in this clip from Japanese TV show, Game Center CX:

I'd love to get this video subbed sometime. =)

Was this when Onimusha started as a "resident evil meets ninjas" game? I recall it and the first announcements of zero in us magazines in 1997 but didn't take a lot of notice much of either at the time.

The basic idea was a BIOHAZARD game set during the Sengoku period where monsters would be somehow roaming around and not be recorded in history. Thank god it became a separate franchise.
