While I love the plot of Code Veronica, I do think that the first three games (Remake, 2, and 3) had the best, most human, and most believable stories in the series. RE4's story was also dark and interesting, but its execution was what made it uber-cheesy. I could have lived without Zero and 5, though. Revelations was also too over-the-top for me.
    Mass production? Ridiculous!

I thought Zero was fine. Parts of it were trying to be too realistic (the enemies were based on lab animals gone loco) but other parts where just waaaay out there. Like Marcus. But overall, the plot didn't bother me. I liked the puzzles.

5 was disappointing mostly with how Wesker became a generic supervillain that came out from the pages of a 80's comic book or cartoon. And Spencer dies like a punk. Waiting for all these years just to see him gone in a flash. But I had more of an issue with the gameplay.

Revelations had a wacky story but it didn't hurt the game for me. Not even close. The gameplay was solid 85% of the time. That was enough for me to give it a thumbs up. If RE6 is the same way regardless of the story, I will join the RE6 love-fest bandwagon and even buy one of those t-shits.

For me, Resident Evil has always been about decadence and hubris. Horror springs out of genteel places like mahogany-paneled libraries and ornamental gardens. The characters are always walking deeper and deeper into someone else's nightmare - or, more accurately, someone else's dream gone wrong.

I think it's safe to assume at least one RE producer is a fan of the 1970's camp classic "The Damned."

The original main titles BH1-through-CV had a reasonably consistent style which... on one had is full of silly movie monsters, on the other hand at least tried to give it a touch of more grounded corporate conspiracy, industrial espionage and so on. I hate the dumb terrorism stuff we are stuck with now, it feels like they are trying to be relevant for the sake of it, instead of writing an interesting plot.

Bioterrorism is a better excuse to be used multiple times than "accidental outbreak" though

Well technically the only accidental outbreak would be from the Birkin lab in Raccoon City which spanned through several games.

The Arklay Research Facility is by Marcus as well as the training facility and Ecliptic Express. The Sheena Island outbreak was on purpose by Goldman. Rockfort Island was from a special forces unit which contaminated to the Antarctica Research Facility. The Spencer Rain was also deliberate. The facility in Russia was also the result of sabotage. So yeah, only one really accidental was Raccoon City.
