It's a pretty cool building, but it definitely needs a few more washrooms.
Yeah, but it would be awesome to wake up in the middle of the night needing to use the facilities, then have to trudge all the way through the dark ass mansion to get there. To some, that would be eerie- To me, it would be awesome.
I often thought about this - how would I rebuild the mansion.. I think first I would have to run a ton of simulations - original mansion, REmake mansion, hybrid - see what works best. I would then work out the flaws in the design, what needs to be added and removed realistically (for example, checking if the floors/room placement are even possible to replicate). Personally, I would want to keep it as close as possible to the original, even the number of bathrooms. Hah. But that may prove difficult. I would definitely add a "debug room" somewhere, with monitors set up that show the feeds of hidden cameras set in the same position as the viewing angle from the games. I would then add speakers to those rooms that play the in-game music from each room.
Scream, I always thought about doing that exact same thing too. Walking along the 1F corridor to the original sound track, the string piece. Imagine stumbling along to the toilet in the early hours of the morning and faintly hearing it. I wouldn't complain about having to get up again.
I never really noticed how dim the REmake mansion was though despite lamps etc, I'd definitely have to have a few dimmers around for personal preference.

Regardless, I feel they are two very different styles (REmake and Original). Original feels like something is very, very wrong - like it's just been evacuated recently or something. While REmake mansion is more of a "haunted house" experience and sort of decrepit, that I guess was the intention of the original all along. They both work well. But I think if you upgraded the original mansion to today's graphics more literally (and with extra assets to avoid the ultra plain look) it would not look like REmake.. I'd like to see that interpretation for some reason.
You could say CV already done that to an extent, but its graphics left much to be desired in the details department (the area just outside of the mansion looks atrocious).
