Indeed. The hardest part of the test here is driving in reverse on a s-shaped road. They have sensors that beep if you mess it up. Whether you pass that or not I think has no relevance on if you are a good driver or not.

Sorry this comment is late, and sorry to hear about what happened Dot. Like everyone else I wish you a speedy recovery. I'm fortunate enough to have never had any fractures so I can't imagine what the pain is like. That car looks fucked at least you have a cool story to tell. The ladies will be over you with those battle scars

I think getting a license in the UK is hard. The theory is easy, but then you have to do that naff Hazard Perception test which has nothing to do with driving safely and some drivers who've been on the road 20/30 years without any points can't pass it. You fail if you spot the hazards too early and the whole thing seems buggy. Then we have to take the practical test with all the manouevres like turn in the road, reverse round a corner, parallel parking, plus they constantly observe if you're planning ahead on the road, adapting to changes etc. I've just started with a new instructor this week. Bearing in mind a lot of people are on the road now though when you didn't even have to do a theory or manoeuvres. Then those young drivers who pass and then disregard everything they've been taught to look cool to their mates, etc.

Just an update here, I'll be here for another 6 weeks at the minimum. I have a full cast on now and the staples (30!) were removed from my ankle/leg. I also got half the staples out of my thigh too and will be going tomorrow to get the other half out.
While I was at the doctors office getting a new cast, I took some pictures of the X-rays they did after the surgery. Heres some pics of my bionic leg
Both of the larger pics are taken from the back of my heel. The inside bone that broke was the little ball of your ankle on the inside. The bottom part snapped off and they put it back in with two screws. The outer bone broke in a spiral pattern up my leg (about 6 inches up). So they fixed that with a plate + 8 screws.
