I'm not sure he's out, he's just not got much drive and energy.

And Alzaire can barely stand being a mod. I think he'd choke on his tongue rather than be an admin.

Like Ive said, staying how we are, at least for the time being, is the way to go. If you feel like you can create some awesome piece of content, do it and post it, there is nothing stopping you. The issue is, people rarely follow through, and quite frankly, when they do, it is subpar. Dot set high standards for himself, which as you have seen never materialized, but sometimes thats what you have to do.

If you want OMGZRESIDENTEVILFANSITE, just search Google. Generic content is there, and will always be there, and will never bring in any real lasting traffic. Walkthroughs are plentiful, as are screenshots. Real features on the otherhand, aren't necessarily there, but that's because it requires work and dedication, something that most people just don't have.

Well I don't know if Dot wants to sell or not, but I'll say THIA is his work and vision just as much as it is our community. If I was him I would just re-organize the staff.. two new positions web specialist and content providers. Drop all the other inactive staff to honorary titles, then when people see a living, breathing hierarchy they will want to contribute and move up the ladder.

I would contribute more if I could but I'm creating something a little different to THIA/PU that will hopefully add a bit more to the RE scene.. I think we can co-exist as cutting edge RE sites, rather than the generic google crap..

It's hideous, completely unrecognizable from what it once was. Even the forums link to some different site now.

Yeah, THIA going the route relyonhorror did makes me cry a little. I think I'd rather set fire to the place and use the remnants as fiery death balls than see that happen. Which is so unlikely it's barely an option, but I like help people make choices that don't suck.

                  Agreed.

To all those who don't know what we're on about, imagine a site that was more or less like THIA (V Bulletin forum etc), was going for years, big RE fan site, but a desire for profit/more users turned it into this:

Rely on Horror is a horror publication covering the major and indie horror games of our time.

Clicked the link. First time I've ever been to Rely on Horror.. I uh.. don't see what's so bad about it.. Looks like a big news outlet for anything horror.. The layout is kinda iffy, but again.. Don't see anything wrong.. What's so bad about it? o__o'..

This. It used to be a thriving active community, dedicated to RE with content (albeit not great), and was a community for years. The forum format changed, everyone left and the entire community died. It now has no community, no dedicated userbase and is full of ads.

Imagine turning this forum into one that didn't work, you could even read the mod forums with the correct link, everyone who had previously been banned was unbanned (you couldn't ban people even), stick ads everywhere and turn it into a weird news outlet, initially where any user could post front page news (even if it wasn't news). I could go on..

Ah, gotcha. Yes, I totally agree. I would hate to see that happen here. That's the problem with those big sites, an uncontrollable user base and spam/ads.. Sigh.. There's gotta be some way to have the site healthily expand while keeping the tight-knit community. Hmmmm...

Well, at least we have what we have now. Gotta be grateful for that! Especially to you and Darkmoon, as well as the remaining admins, who keep the site running. <3.. (I hope haven't come off as ungrateful for what the site already is by all these suggestions!)

Of course not, it's always good to hear what people would like to see, cos the community is what keeps it going at the end of the day and we need suggestions if the site is struggling a bit. Ultimately though the decision is Dot's.

No, suggestions are good. Lack of change means we die a slow and pitiful death. Hence why I'm not too excited by the idea of switching to community only.

I'm around and Dot50Cal knows that I'll cough up the cash for the server; should he ever feel like he can't afford it or just wants to get rid of it.

Sadly, I don't really have the time to stick around as much as I kinda wish I could and I kinda also lack the hardcore passion to drive things; full force. Feedback, money and the 2 cents of an "outsider" is pretty much what I've always given and what I'll probably continue providing.

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on both this thread and the other one.

I am hurt, Alexia, I wrote some of that material. Actually my contribution was quite small; if memory serves the only thing I wrote were the descriptions for the CODE: Veronica Japanese Book section.

I will say that reHorror/Rely on Horror was definitely a beautiful community back in the day, and I think a lot of why it lost its community was because of the constant moves from site to site. Obviously, changing your website format to be updated is a good thing. It gives the site a fresh start so to speak.

One thing I never liked when we switched forums at reHorror was the need to re-ban those who were already banned, and the constant "race" some users felt to become the poster with the highest posts (Post count should be irrelevant, but I still see posts that seem like nothing more than a "Hey, I'm going to get another post and get my number higher!"...A story for another day though).

I can't speak for Sean ([STARS]TyranT), but I think like me, he is here because this place has a feel of what reHorror used to be. I really enjoyed running a forum of intelligent users (though not all of them were) who wanted to discuss Resident Evil in all forms.

This forum could use a facelift in terms of general appearance, but I still extend my words of caution in regards to actually moving to a new server/type of forum. I witnessed it first hand with our constant moves: You lose users, you get people who are pissed about having to "start over," and some users just don't like the change.

But to tell you the truth, I think the site really only needs a bit of active users who want to contribute news, and that will in turn keep the community growing AND the site alive. The only annoyance I have with THIA is that I can't go by my usual pseudonym because "Alexander Ashford" was like three letters too many. C'est la vie.

To whom it may concern, if you need my help for anything, please do not hesitate to ask. My time isn't endless, but I can pitch in from time to time.
