  • Takeuchi to answer YOUR questions regarding Resident Evil 5

In a rare and might I add, kind move, Capcom USA is asking fans to post their questions regarding the highly anticipated sequel for Jun Takeuchi (the game's producer) to answer.

Should be interesting, though I doubt the questions most will ask will be answered.

Oh the questions I'd love to ask...

Not the type of questions that would get answered though. haha

I wonder how long it will be until someone asks about RE 1.5 lol.

Sadly, I am pretty positive at this point nobody will officially talk about 1.5.

Someone should ask though. Make a huge list, haha. They won't answer obviously, but at least we can keep saying we throw it at them that we still want to know.

The only real good question that comes to mind is whether they've managed to hit their 60fps target with those visuals. Unless the AI is VERY simple and on par with RE4's, I'm not sure that's possible.

Wow, this started just yesterday and there's about 49 posts already, each contain several questions... That's gonna be a lot of questions to answer for Takeuchi-san .

Also, it's quite funny to see some sort of console funboyism in questions. Is it really THAT important to know "which console is leading development for the game"?

I think it is, at least that would be my first question. If the lead platform is 360, then chances are it has all the content they envisioned the game to have, and Id prefer to play through that version.

Actual development didn't even start until they finished optimizing Framework for both platforms, but the general consensus despite that fact is that it's always the "lower common denominator". Content is the least concerning issue when it comes to multiplatforming but the graphical differences are inevitable. DMC4 should serve as a good benchmark as what to expect.

That game originally started on one platform, the content is going to be the same and they're releasing a demo for the 360 while considering a PS3 one.

Thanks for posting this up, great heads up!

Someone in the thread's already posted up a summary of questions so far, it's massive! It's posted below.

I chose to ask about what online capabilities we should expect to see, and whether the game will feature any episodic content.

                    Tech-related
                    • Will the PS3 version of the game utilize the space that both BluRay discs and HD space provide?
                    • Seeing how PS3 supports BluRay discs which will hold more space, will this affect the quality of both games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, or will content be more likely to make an appearance on the PS3 version? If so will this be offered for free for Xbox 360 users, or will the PS3 be charged extra for content which will equal to the same amount of 360 users if they had purchased the same content from the store?
                    • Will Resident Evil 5 take full potential of the Xbox 360's hardware?
                    • Which console is leading development for the game? Which one are you focusing more on? PS3 or Xbox 360?
                    • Will a Resident Evil 5 Wii edition heavily depend on the sales of Resident Evil 4 Wii edition and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles or is it completely out of the picture yet?
                    • Is the game targeted to run at 60fps across all platforms?
                    • Which engine is the game being developed on?
                    • Will there be a Nintendo DS and/or PSP version of the game?
                    • Will the game utilize the PS3's HDD to install the game partially?
                    • Will the game support Sixaxis tilt functionality?
                    • Will the game support Rumble functionality on the PS3?
                    • In Dead Rising the zombie crowds where big. Given the technology of the Xbox 360 and PS3 are we going to see millions of enemies on screen at once, are you going to incorporate the same technology that was used in Dead Rising?

                    Regarding gameplay
                    • Will there be more puzzles in Resident Evil 5?
                    • Will there be enough in this game to attract First Person Shooter addicts like Resident Evil 4 did?
                    • Will you finally introduce the Gears of War style duck and cover system in Resident Evil 5, along with real time weapon changing and a grenade button?
                    • How close will the gameplay be to RE4 and will there be more awesome knife-fight sequences?
                    • How many playable characters will be in Resident Evil 5?
                    • How many hours do you think the game will take to get through, from start to finish?
                    • Watching the trailer shown at E3, I noticed the zombies were using grappling hooks! Will players also be able to utilize a similar tool or is this for the non-player characters only?
                    • Also, this is a wild departure in setting for the Resident Evil series, how will this new environment affect the game play in Resident Evil 5?
                    • Will we see a return of chainsaw wielding foes!?
                    • Will the style follow the fixed cameras of the previous installments, or will it follow Resident Evil 4's way?
                    • Will there be money involved in the gameplay?
                    • Will there be any operatable aircrafts in the game?
                    • How will it be possible to fight back against groups of enemies who can travel very fast, as seen in the trailer?
                    • Is Wesker playable?
                    • The protagonist is wearing a headset throughout the trailer. Will we get to look forward to more MGS style communications from a commanding officer or is it for utilizing PvP/Co-op multiplayer options?
                    • Are you guys adding any dept to the knife fighting, like combos/finishing moves?

                    Regarding special features
                    • Will Resident Evil 5 have a multiplayer campaign (co-op)? Can you play it over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network seeing how this generation has taking a big step towards internet connectivity?
                    • If RE5 does include some sort of online multiplayer, how high are you targeting the maximum number of players in a given map/mode/gameplay type?
                    • Will there be any bonus content such as the mini-game "The Mecenaries"?
                    • What are the achievements (Xbox 360) in Resident Evil 5? And will the game support Trophies in the PlayStation Network?
                    • Can we expect any kind of downloadable content?
                    • Will there be a photo mode?

                    Regarding the storyline
                    • Assuming the villagers are not the cause of Las Plagas (or some other new parasite), are we going to see the return of the old viruses, or new strands? Or something entirely new?
                    • Who are the main characters in this sequel? Is the protagonist Chris Redfield?
                    • Will we see a return of Claire Redfield/Barry Burton/Carlos Oliveira/Hunk/Leon S. Kennedy/Jill Valentine/Albert Wesker/Steve Burnside/Sherry Birkin/Ada Wong/Billy Coen?
                    • How many past characters will make a return?
                    • I hear the voice acter for Osmund Saddler wil be returning. Can we expect him as a returning villain in Resident Evil 5?
                    • Will Resident Evil 4's Merchant return, or did he die at the end of Resident Evil 4?
                    • Does this game take place before or after Resident Evil 4?
                    • Is the Ebola virus related to the disease the villagers are infected with?
                    • Will we see Lord Ozwell E. Spencer for the first time?
                    • Resident Evil hasn't really been known for any love relationships... Will we ever see a strong bond between two characters of the opposite sex in a Resident Evil game?
                    • What in the world happened to Rebecca?
                    • Will Resident Evil 5 answer any questions that remain from Resident Evil 1-3, CODE: Veronica, and 4?
                    • Will RE5 have more connections to the previous games than RE4 did?
                    • If the game is set in Africa like most people think will there be any mention of the discovery of the t-Virus?
                    • What steps are you guys taking to bring a rich storyline back to RE?
                    • Does this game have some kind of political commentary (as the trailer suggested)? If so, how are you planning to handle this in the story?
                    • Will this installment finally finish off Umbrella? Or will it leave room for more questions and sequels in which Umbrella comes back?
                    • Is Umbrella involved in this events?
                    • Could you tell us about the "axe man", is he similar to Dr. Salvador's character in RE4?
                    • What happened to Sherry Birkin? Is she in government custody (RE3 epilogue) or in Wesker's hands (Wesker's Report)?
                    • Are the black (seemingly non-human) people in the trailer supposed to be zombies, or something else?
                    • Is there any chance we'll be fighting creatures infected with the t-Virus, G-Virus, T-Veronica or t+G-Virus (especially bosses)? Or a combination of the T-Veronica and G-Virus?
                    • Are the events of Resident Evil Gaiden ignored within the timeline, since Resident Evil 4 didn't seem to consider them? Or will this plot be referenced in one of the upcoming games?

                    Other questions
                    • Is there any chance of a demo hitting Xbox Live or PlayStation Network?
                    • Can you give us some time frame in which the game will come out?
                    • The scenes from the trailer seemed to mirror the beginning of Resident Evil 4 (with the main character finding himself amongst a bunch of crazed villagers, then completely alone). Will the atmosphere of this game compare to RE4's?
                    • How is this game going to pull in people who have never picked up a Resident Evil game before?
                    • What advice do you have for people that want to get into the game development industry?
                    • Will the game be more survival horror like previous games, action horror like RE4 or something inbetween?
                    • Resident Evil 4 was a giant leap for the franchise, will we see the same kind of leap in 5, or just building upon an already great system?
                    • Is the development team in any way shared between Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4? Also, how many of the original developers that worked on RE4 now work on RE5?
                    • Will there be a collectors/limited edition of RE5 (for Canada)?
                    • What do you draw your inspiration from (in general)?
                    • What is your favourite game?
                    • Are you considering the input of fans on message boards/fansites?
                    • When will we see actual gameplay footage?
                    • How did you choose the setting, and what are the challenges involved in creating a horror game set in broad daylight?
                    • Will there be problems for newcomers to the series to enjoy the game and understand what's going on it the story, without having any knowledge of the previous titles (including characters, organizations, viruses, etc.)?

                    Suggestions
                    • You could mix the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 with the story elements from the older installments.
                    • Make the game darker, using lighters to illuminate the environment.
                    • I wouldn't mind a crouch button, so I can teabag the original Resident Evil engine.
                    • Could you guys PLEASE bring back the Lickers?!?
                    • I thoroughly enjoyed Resident Evil 4, however the game did not feel like a Resident Evil game to me. I felt as though Resident Evil 4 had too much action in it and not enough puzzle solving and plot development (which was some of my favorite parts in past Resident Evil games). What I found to be disappointing were the notes/memos found throughout the game. Usually these memos allowed users to understand and appreciate the plot better. Also, I felt as though Resident Evil 4 was more of a side mission rather then a full fledged sequel as it did little to advance the main plot.
My question is whether or not these issues will be remedied in Resident Evil 5?. While Resident Evil 4 was a very fun game, I feel fans of the series would appreciate it if Capcom integrated the older Resident Evil elements (such as puzzles and backtracking) into Resident Evil 5 alongside the new gameplay mechanics.
                    • Your last Resident Evil, if you ever make one, should include all characters (especially Ark Thompson, maybe Billy) and finally have an all out epic game that finally brings down Umbrella.
                    • Bring back Ark. He was a pretty decent character (since Leon is his friend and all) in some way.
                    • Make Albert Wesker a playable character.
                    • I think the Wii audience will be satisfied even with a downgraded version of the game!
                    • Please add more elements from previous Resident Evil titles.

One question I have not seen posted yet has been a pretty obvious one:

Will Resident Evil 5 be the last game developed in the series?

With the way Resident Evil : Umbrella Chronicles is setup, it should explain how Umbrella was taken down, however Resident Evil 4 raises the possibility that Umbrella may have come back under a different name or that some other company has taken over their position as the leading "global" pharmaceutical company. With that said:

Will the events in Resident Evil 4 affect the storyline of Resident Evil 5?

With the whole "S" and "The Organization" roles played in Resident Evil 4, it left many open doors for ways in which you could direct the storyline. Depending on how you finish 5, you could continue the series for a lot longer just by expanding on the storyline and picking a gameplay system that works.

                          We can somewhat tell that Resident Evil 5 might take place in Africa;

Does the flashback Billy Coen had in Resident Evil 0 have anything to do with the events in Resident Evil 5?

When playing Resident Evil 0, it did seem a bit odd to mention Africa and how his whole squad killed the villagers out of spite for being given wrong information and then placing all the blame on Billy. After watching Resident Evil 5's trailer, it seems, at least to me, that there may be more to Billy's story then he may be disclosing.

Oh, if you haven't played Resident Evil 0, you might not want to read the previous paragraph.... Oh wait...

Two posts and I registered December 2003. Crazy shit.
