  • Resident Evil 5 PC

Spong (yes, that site) posted an interview with Inafune that the conducted during E3 where he said the following in regards to RE5:

As for Resident Evil 5, all we’ve done is shown the trailer and we’ve been instructed not to say anything more to anybody. Not just you press guys. Anyone; other than it is scheduled for release next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
The release date may very well be off, since publishers never joke about a delay so we'd take that with a grain of salt. But unless there is something lost in the translation, a PC RE5 is likely being considered and could be easily done. It's running on a multiplatform engine (Framework) that originated on the platform (which in turn was loosely based on the Onimusha 3 engine).

It's a rumor for now, so this is by no means a confirmation especially given the source of the interview. It's worth mentioning since Inafune is an executive who oversees the production of the various titles since the RE4 port for PS2.

    Spong Interview

UPDATE: Spong removed "PC" from Inafune's answer upon request from Capcom Europe. Did Inafune slip up, or was it really a mistake from Spong? We'll find out sooner or later. Framework did allow them to port Lost Planet to the PC fairly quickly, and with DMC4 seeing a PC release as well, RE5 is a likely candidate.

Why is the release date well off? Famitsu apparently reached "a consensus" with the producer about 2008 already?

Well, when RE is on a PC, you just know the mod community will make an effort to come up with interesting modifications... I smell Barry Burton mods...

Excellent, I'm very happy they are working on a PC port, and since its on the Framework engine it should translate a whole hell of a lot better than RE4 did.

The mention of a PC version has since been removed from the interview.

So either it was a mistake, or Capcom wanted it removed until further notice.

Interesting, Umon, you up for emailing Spong and asking them if it was an error?

Apparently Inafune did say that, but Capcom Europe wanted that removed. Who knows what's up, but I still say that a PC version is VERY likely.

It'll be released a few months after the console versions. I'm guessing they don't want people to know about it before then as more people have PCs than consoles and it would affect sales.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Doing the PC version requires little effort since the engine being used is the Framework engine which is very easy to adapter to the three platforms (PS3, 360, PC). Check out the Lost Planet PC version, its using the engine and looks great. Infact its better than the 360 version in terms of graphics (and one could argue controls as well since the 360 controller is available on the PC, or you can use a mouse).

That version would probably suck. And even if its for Wii they won't make a PS2 game in 2008 or 2009.
