  • 1UP Interviews Keiji Inafune

1UP has a nice interview with Keiji Inafune in which he speaks about Resident Evil 5, Onimusha and other Capcom franchises. They also have a video from the interview up at the page linked below.

Some of the information gleamed from the article relating to RE5 is:
    • They are looking to exceed the level of control that was delivered with Resident Evil 4 though they are still evaluating the scheme within Capcom.
    • He confirms that there is no link between the movies and the games, beyond that the movies are based on some of the previous games. There will be no "coming together" of the films and the games.
    • One of the primary reasons the game takes place in a sunny atmosphere was to challenge the team to create a realistic environment.
    • The game is running on the "Framework" engine, though it has been going through many tweaks and tuning and the game will look "much much better" than previous games using the engine.
    • Mikami is not envolved with the game at all, Most of the people who worked on RE4 are on the team.
    • They would like to impliment online features for RE5, but he will not say if its definite yet.

I've also added the 2nd Trailer for Resident Evil Extinction on the General Videos page, so if you were one of the folks who was having issues downloading it from Yahoo you can check it out there in both SD and HD resolutions.

I don't wanna sound negative but Mikami not working on the series brings greater doubt that this game will feel anything like RE. Well, only time will tell. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

      It'll feel more like RE4 than a proper Resident Evil game that's for sure . . .

It was Mikami who threw the old gameplay and story out the window in the first place.

I'm pretty confident they can pull it off. The team has produced some great games.

Some months ago Mikami is supposed to be a advisor for the game, now he is not involvead in anything....

Anyway, I really wish that Mikami make another surviror horror series with Seeds.

Whether he's credited or not, Mikami DOES have some feedback on the title. A lot of you don't know that he had feedback on the original Onimusha and several Capcom titles he wasn't involved with.

This time, we've got a Frankenstein of a team with staff from several departments so some guidance like that is needed. Without it, we'll end up with another RE4. Once they have a mold, the staff can create good games; Zero and the Outbreak games come to mind.

Inafune is doing an excellent job bashing ex-Capcom employees left and right though. Inaba, now Okamoto... who basically carried the company's creative output for 13 years from the last 80's to 2000.

with or without mikami this game is looking amazing, with it also been pushed back it won't become another re4.

                    first post!

Well, with RE4, at least its numerous delays brought us stuff like DMC... and Haunting Ground.

I agree with Umon and believe Mikami is somehow involved in the game, even if the role is as small as giving him a phone call and asking for advice.

well sure he is, afterall he's the creator, they'd probably turn to him for advice every now and then ...

like how sakaguchi is always credited as advisor or planner in the FF games even now ... he was credited in FFXII as well ..

btw welcome to THIA cvx, if you are the same cvx i think you are :p

Clearly that's a personal preference, and I'll go as far as saying that Zero was overall, the best RE title last generation. Nothing original, but it was a very well done title. I enjoyed it very much, and that's that.

As far as Outbreak goes, the core gameplay engine was great. Notwithstanding the non-existent contribution to the plot of the series of course, which I couldn't care less about. Imagine if a main series game was created with that engine; melee weapons, swimming, evade and kick moves that aren't part of a QTE etc.

Emphasis on personal view here. Judging from the other news post comment, you stated that there are two views about RE4, and that no amount of arguing can change either side. But you did go on arguing, so it was funny :p

And the only reason I continued was because you said I was missing the point, so I felt the need to clarify that I had not "missed the point" at all. ;P
