  • RE4 Wii Sales, Extinction Special Disc

Correction: The Resident Evil bundle of the first two movies is a new set that we previously reported on. Best Buy's ad's pictured an old 2-pack release.

Total Video Games is reporting that Capcom has released the sales numbers for Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. Surprisingly, sales have exceeded 750,000 world wide, making the title a huge success. Hopefully this will mean more games in the series will be ported over for Wii fans.

In other news, Best Buy will be carrying a special Resident Evil Extinction disc when you purchase the "Resident Evil 2 Pack", which is a bundle of the first two movies. The set is available on Tuesday The Ectinction extra's include:
    • Resident Evil Extinction "Movie Money"
    • Concession Cash
    • Bonus Disc

No word on what is on the disc, though Ill be trying to find one today and will report back if I find one. It should also be noted that the 2 pack is infact an old release, from around when the second movie first was issued on dvd. It includes the original release of Resident Evil on DVD (Not the Deluxe Edition) and the standard Apocalypse DVD release.

Gamestop has some new boxart for Umbrella Chronicles, it looks quite good, with the Umbrella Logo being the focus. We don't know if this is final though. The Resident Evil bundle pack for Playstation 2, now calling itself "Resident Evil The Essentials", also has some boxart up. The set is due to release in just 2 days, so if you are looking to buy it be prepared.

No no no, hopefully this means that we'll see a real original RE game in the future, not a glorified light gun game. RE5 is naturally out of the question, but the company that had 4 RE games in development simultaneously at one point can come up with something.

IIRC, this has exceeded their target shipment by 300K.

EDIT: unrelated, but here's an interesting read about Capcom's recent collaboration with Camelot (We Love Golf developer):

Take a glance at their lineup for TGS

7 titles were announced to be shown there, with only 1 NOT on a Nintendo DS/Wii. That should be a sign that Capcom is starting to lean towards supporting Nintendo platforms more, I hope.

Bah to some special stuff lumbered in with near vanilla releases of the first two, it's like Spiderman 1.5 and 2.X. The kinda stuff on the disc is probably footage and material they should've just had on a webcast or such . . .

RE5 is naturally out of the question
So was RE4 for PS2, a portable RE1 and Resident Evil in general on cartridge based platforms.

So I'm pretty sure that if Capcom wants to, Capcom will.
(Heck, I'm still recovering from the jaw drop when they showed off Rockman & Forte for the Snes. A friggin 32bit quality 2D game running on the SNES; and it's even smoother than its 32bit cousin)

After seeing how the GC had games like Rouge Leader/Rebel Strike, Metroid Prime 1-2 and Resident Evil 4, and seeing the beauty of Metroid Prime 3, Zack & Wiki and the eye candy of Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, I'm fairly certain that the Wii's hardware is pretty capable of running an acceptable downtoned conversion/port. (i.e. something that'd pretty much look somewhat identical to what a PS3/360 version would look like at 480p.

              Have faith

The 360 and PS3 can have RE5 AFAIC a new RE exclusive to the Wii thats more like the proper series and not like UC is the order of the day . . .

                    @ Carn

You have a good general point, but let's not use the technical gap between the PS2 and GC as a yardstick to what's on right now. The GC was a more effecient hardware with hardware support for T&L and other effects that had to be written from scratch on the PS2. This time, it's a generation gap; the Wii is really nothing more than a souped up Xbox. RE5 has a lot more going on than mere HD rendering resolution too.

More can be done with the Wii for sure, but I'd prefer an original title than a downgraded port.
