  • Announcement: Biohazard: Degeneration

Yup, you read it right! Seems like the recent public appearance of more Resident Evil 1.5 material and various Umbrella Chronicles headlines aren't the only big things these days, as Capcom and Sony Pictures just announced a little bit of an unexpected surprise:

CAPCOM Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan -- representative director and president: Haruhiro Tsujimoto; hereinafter "CAPCOM") and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Japan -- representative director and president: Ken Munekata; hereinafter "SPEJ") have announced coproduction of "BIOHAZARD: Degeneration," the first full-length CG animation feature based upon the BIOHAZARD series of games and movies.

BIOHAZARD, began as a hit international video game franchise created by CAPCOM, then made its debut on the silver screen as the live-action film RESIDENT EVIL (the international film title for BIOHAZARD), distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment. RESIDENT EVIL is the first trilogy of live-action movies to have come from a video game franchise. CAPCOM and Sony Picture's Japanese subsidiary SPEJ have teamed up to give birth to a CG-animated BIOHAZARD with groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line.

Since its initial release in 1996, the BIOHAZARD series of games has established the "survival horror" genre and has shipped over a 33 million units worldwide, continuing to captivate its fans as a powerful property. CAPCOM will continue to release new games within the franchise, such as "BIOHAZARD: Umbrella Chronicles" and "BIOHAZARD 5"

The films "RESIDENT EVIL" and "RESIDENT EVIL 2: APOCALYPSE" have each grossed more than US$ 100 million at the Box Office internationally. "RESIDENT EVIL 3" aka "BIOHAZARD 3" (debuting throughout Japan on November 3) has been the biggest hit of the series in the US to date, adding to the high performance and public support for this franchise.

The full CG animation feature "BIOHAZARD: Degeneration" is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying release in 2008.

This one came as a bit of a surprise, don't you think?

    Well, that was certainly unexpected.

This could be interesting. It'll depend...are they gonna end up giving us more of the same the movies served up, only with digitized boobies? Hopefully not. Call me hopeful but this says to me, 'Thank you for watching Anderson's crap and getting us money. Now have something that doesn't taste bitter.'

Since there are bugger all details for now, though, I guess it's wait and see time.

        Awesome news!
I've often thought that the only hope for a satisfying RE movie would be if a Japanese film called Biohazard was made and was actually BASED ON THE VIDEO GAMES. I also thought a Manga style animation would be great but this should be even better.
Now I'm just wondering if it will tell the RE story from the beginning, be based on RE4 or RE5, or tell a whole new chapter/story?

Wow. Finally, (hopefully) a worth watching Biohazard movie .
I hope it will be based on games, not anything original, like Anderson's crap.

another r.e thing to go with r.e 5 to look forward to. i hope they keep the big boobs on jill ;)
i think that it'll be set in racoon city, because they can have alot of actions, in fact it might be based on r.e outbreak file 1 and 2?
              BRING IT ON I SAY.

Definitely unexpected, and especially not in a bad way.

Shit, i'm down for a new CG-Bio movie. Count me in.

                Thanks for the news, Carn!

Wow... completely unexpected. I hope this turns out good and even though i guess it will be new characters, I hope it comes to be an outbreak-like story. And this wednesday it's the release of the extinction film here in Spain, I hope it isn't TOO bad! I know anything else I watch will be great after that!

But my opinion is that "BIO HAZARD: Degeneration" is going to be released in Japan and not America.

That's not likely at all. There's so much money being made on the franchise in North America. It's being done by Japanese studios but I can almost guarantee that there will be an English dubbing and localization on this. That's one of the minor advantages of it being a CG movie.

I really really really really really really really really really really really hope this isn't based on the movies. I want to see RE2 as a movie.
